Are you a fan of avocados? Up until recently I really didn’t care much for them. After making homemade guacamole I have been learning to like the unusual green fruit (it really is a fruit, not a vegetable).
You can find the super easy to make guacamole recipe that I made for Cinco de Mayo here – Spice Up Cinco de Mayo with freshly made guacamole.
My kids like avocados. They like to smear mashed avocado on their toast or crackers.
Avocados are great year round, but the prime Peruvian Avocado season is June through September (Avocados from Peru are often considered the world’s standard), which is the time of year that people often host backyard barbecude and dinner parties for family and friends.
Did you know you can “dress up” an avocado to make them look really fancy?
Avocados from Peru are a great way to add flavor and flair without adding cost or hours of prep. So no need to break into the chardonnay just yet, because here are a few tips on how to add a dash of fancy to your next dinner party without breaking the bank:
Marbling Madness: When an avocado is mashed into a slab and frozen, it adds a whole new level of classiness to any dish. The bright yellows and greens of an avocado look brilliant as a backdrop to tasty grilled fish, plus your creativity will shine through by cutting the marbled block into geometric shapes! Careful, though–Avocados have high fat content, so they won’t stay frozen for long.
Avocado Ribbons: Anybody can cut an avocado into slices, but have you ever tried shaving an avocado? All you need is a y-shaped peeler and a steady hand to create beautiful ribbons and curls of avocado—perfect for adorning salads, pasta, and pizzas. You could even make a deconstructed guacamole if you want to go the modernist route. http://bit.ly/1X5yAH2
Grilled Deliciousness:Who doesn’t love seared grill marks on their meals? Scoop out the avocado flesh and throw it on the grill for a few minutes. This unique take on barbeque will spice up the average burger plus give the avocado an extra boost of flavor.
Living Centerpiece:Using a special avocado sprouter (yay Pinterest!), take advantage of every aspect of the avocado by submerging the pit in water. In just a few short weeks, you’ll have a beautiful blossoming centerpiece that will last until it outgrows your table and be the center of attention! http://www.yankodesign.com/2013/08/14/simple-home-horticulture/.
Avocado Daiquiri: You can drink your avocados too! Try this recipe for avocado daiquiris–it’s quick, easy, and the addition of chilled creamy avocado will make a great impression. If that doesn’t work, you can always break out the Pisco!
What is YOUR favorite way to enjoy an avocado?

I love avocados! I’ve never thought to make them into ribbons or grilling them though.
