The unofficial start to the summer season is this coming weekend! Can you believe it? It seems like only yesterday we were planning our New Year’s resolutions. Sadly, before we know it it will be time to plan on back to school shopping again. The year rushes by too quickly. Sigh…
When you think of summer, what comes to mind? For me it’s swimming, the beach, vacation, cracking up the AC to keep cool and lots and lots of sunscreen. I also think about backyard barbecues and hosting dinner for family and friends. Sadly, we’re not allowed to have barbecues where we live (as per the Fire Marshall) so we have to rely on my father and his barbecue to get our fair share of barbecued burgers and hot dogs.
If you are someone who loves to entertain during the summer months, it’s important that you have great tools to help you create the most mouthwatering meals for your guests.
If you do a lot of cooking over the summer (or year round) you will need a decent set of knives. After all, you have a lot of fruits, veggies and meat to cut up for salads, side dishes and main meals.
I recently received an interesting set of knives from the Good Cooking brand. They are ceramic knives. I have never had ceramic knives before. I’ve only had metal/steel ones.
Ceramic knives are a great alternative to stainless steel. And unlike stainless steel, ceramic knives won’t rust or corrode.
Without even using the knives for the first time I was impressed. They look really cool. The ones I received are white with red handles. These knives are also available with black handles.
I’m so used to seeing metal knives. I really like the look of the white knives. It’s different.
The knives feel good in the hand. They are not awkward or cumbersome at all. They also feature soft touch handles to make them very comfortable to use.
I’ve only had the knives for a few weeks now (so far, so good). As per the manufacturer the blades can go for months without needed to be sharpened.
The knives are also dishwasher safe. We prefer to hand wash our knives.
The knife set comes with the following;
- Paring Knife
- Fruit Knife
- Chef’s Knife
- Santoku Knife
- Stylish acrylic holder to store the knives in when not in use.
The holder and knives don’t take up much space on the counter top. You could also lie the holder flat and store the knives in a drawer. I prefer to keep mine on the counter top so that they are handy to grab at when I need them.
These are really nice knives. They would make a wonderful gift for someone who loves to cook, barbecue or even a house warming gift.
The Good Cooking Ceramic Knife set is available on Amazon.com and at SCSDirectInc.com. The set sells for $29.95.
What do you think about thee knives? Do you like the look of them? Have you ever used ceramic knives before?
