My family and I enjoy watching movies together – aka – “Family Movie Night.”
I have to admit that the older my kids get the harder it is to have a Family Movie Night. Take for example tonight. We were planning on watching Eddie the Eagle, which is now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. It was going to be my husband, myself and our two kids, but our daughter got called into work. She missed out on all of it.
Tonight was did something a bit different than just watch the movie. We played Bingo based on what we saw in the film.
Fox Home Entertainment sent me a Eddie the Eagle Bingo “kit” that consisted of playing cards and playing pieces to mark the spots on our Bingo boards – chocolate! In hindsight I should have popped them in the fridge before playing the game. The chocolate had melted a lot. Thankfully we were still able to use them to play with.
In addition to the Bingo cards and chocolate playing pieces we also received three adorable branded sweater mugs, hot chocolate packets, t-shirts for me and my husband and letters to iron on and personalize the shirts. Sadly, my shirt was way to to small for me and we don’t have an iron, so only my husband was able to enjoy the shirt (he said it was comfy).
It’s been very hot and humid all day today. Prior to putting in the movie we cranked up the air conditioner to cool thing down inside. The best we were able to do was just shy of 80 degrees inside our home. Watching a movie about the Winter Olympics and drinking hot chocolate in 80 degree weather was a bit odd to say the least, but it didn’t matter. We still enjoyed ourselves.
In case you are unfamiliar with the film, Eddie the Eagle is a true story about Eddie Edwards. It stars Taron Egerton a Eddie, Hugh Jackman and Christopher Walken.
Taron Egerton co-stars alongside Academy Award® Nominee Hugh Jackman* in this high-flying, feel-good story inspired by true events. Egerton plays Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards, an unlikely but courageous British ski-jumper who never stopped believing in himself–even as an entire nation was counting him out. With the help of a rebellious and charismatic coach (Jackman), the lovable underdog wins the hearts of fans around the world by making an unforgettable showing at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics.

I recommend watching the Let The Games Begin: Soaring with Eddie the Eagle Documentary and all it’s sub-features. It gives you great insight behind the real Eddie the Eagle.
I like the idea of playing a Bingo game based on the film. It was fun and something we have never done before. I think it would be fun to create other Bingo boards for other movies we watch, and use other goodies as game pieces (mix it up a bit). Maybe over the summer I can create a blank Bingo board and make up other Bingo sets for movies that we watch. Of course it would have to be for movies we have seen before (otherwise I wouldn’t know what to put on the boards).
If you would like to see more images from tonight visit my Twitter and/or Instgram pages.
Look for Eddie the Eagle where ever movies are sold.
Have you seen the film yet? If so, what did you think about it?
