Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.
Available today (July 12, 2016) on Blu-ray/DVD is the second season of the popular television series iZombie. For those of you who don’t already own season one, that is also available.
iZombie stars Rose McIver as Olivia “Liv” Moore. She was on track to become a doctor, that is until she was turned into a zombie.
Liv is not your typical walking dead. She doesn’t look like a zombie. She doesn’t act like a zombie. And she doesn’t go around attacking the living. She does however feed on human brains to keep her nourished and “alive.” That is why she took on the job of a medical examiner. Working in the morgue gives her plenty of brains to feed on.
You can read my review of the first season of iZombie here – iZombie: The Complete First Season.
The second season was just released today on Blu-ray/DVD.
Power up with your favorite brain food, and prepare for more fun and thrills! iZombie stars Rose McIver as Olivia “Liv” Moore, a medical resident on the fast track to a perfect life … until she’s turned into a zombie. But Liv finds her calling — and an endless supply of food — working at the Seattle coroner’s office, helping to solve crimes with her “visions,” while her boss and sole confidante, Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti, works on a cure for her unthinkable condition. As season two begins, Liv’s ex-fiancé and love, Major, is reeling from recent events and the knowledge that Liv is a zombie. Meanwhile, Blaine — now human — struggles to maintain his zombie world; Clive searches for Blaine and suspects Major’s involvement in the Meat Cute massacre; and Ravi remains devoted to finding an antidote to the zombie virus. Unlikely alliances will be struck, relationships will be challenged and the line between good and evil will blur for both zombies and the fully living.
Some people might think the premise of this show is gross, but honestly, it’s not really that grotesque. Yeah, eating brains sounds pretty gross (although in some cultures eating animal brains is a normal way of life).
I give the shows creators kudos for coming up with creative ways for Liv to enjoy her only source of nutrition – brains. She doesn’t just start gnawing on someone’s skull. Instead she removes the brains and turns them into more enjoy able recipes like burritos and omelets. She also uses a lot of hot sauce to make them more palatable. I guess human brains are not very tasty on their own.
When Liv consumes someone’s brains, she takes on a bit of their personality. In addition it gives her visions into the person’s life. Those visions, along with a Police detective, help to solve crimes. Another words, she can “see” who murdered the victim. iZombie is part crime/detective/”who done it” show and part comedy with a bit of grossness tossed in.
I find that iZombie is a very creative show. The writing is outstanding and each episode leaves me wanting more – like how Liv wants more brains (LOL). Even people who are a bit squeamish when it comes to things like zombies can appreciate this show. It’s NOT a horror series (not in my opinion). It just happens to be that the main character is a zombie, but she doesn’t look or act like one (with the exception of eating brains).
I’m glad that I have the second season. I missed a lot of episodes this last season (season two) so it was great to catch up on those that I missed.
There are 19 episodes in total and each episode is an hour long.
This is a great show for “binge watching” too.
Look for iZombie – both season one and season two – where ever Blu-rays/DVDs are sold. Don’t forget to check out the bonus features which includes deleted scenes and a featurette from the the 2015 Comic Con event.
Be sure to check your local television guide for the air time and channel to catch the upcoming season of iZombie. It airs on the CW network. As of this moment in time I cannot find any information about the third season except that the series has been renewed for a third season.
Are you a fan of iZombie? Do you have a favorite character or episode? Feel free to share your thoughts.
