Do you find men difficult to shop for? I sure do. I never know what to get my husband, or teenage son, for Christmas. For their birthdays too for that matter. My teen daughter is easy to buy for – she wants everything under the sun – clothes, jewelry, make up, music, a new phone, a camera… Her list is a mile long. Trying to find out what to get the men in my life (my hubby and son) is not so easy.
One gift idea that seems to work out well for either my husband or my son is cologne. Oddly enough my teenage son wears it more than my husband does. My husband is a sweatpants and t-shirt kind of guy who doesn’t give much thought to primping himself. He even shaves his head (crew cut) so that he doesn’t have to be bothered styling his hair. My son on the other hand gives more thought to what he wears and how he looks. I’m sure it’s a teenage/peer pressure sort of thing.
I never know what kind of cologne to get. I’m not one to go for a cologne just because it’s named for a celebrity or endorses by one. I actually like to stick with the classics that I know smell great.
LACSOTE is a brand that has been around forever (or so it would seem). I remember the brand from my childhood. I still remember when it was “in” to wear the LACSOTE shirts with the collars turned up (totally 80’s!). I never knew they made colognes. I was actually sent one to review. I received the Blanc fragrance. The description sold me long before I had the opportunity to smell it for myself. 🙂
Blanc fragrance suits a Pure and refined mood – timeless, classic, and inspired by the white polo shirt, it is the hero of the EAU DE LACOSTE L.12.12 range. It suits the impeccably dressed man at the party. Clear and aromatic rosemary opens the woody floral creation, which is based around a natural white floral tuberose for a clean and crisp scent. The cedarwood and vetiver woody base notes ensure that the fragrance has a more masculine appeal and direction.
I love the scent of cedarwood. I couldn’t wait to smell this cologne.
I know some people really have a nose for scents (no pun intended) and can pin point different scents easily. I’m not like that. That same goes for tasting wine. I can’t tell you want flavors I taste, I just know if it tastes good or not.
LACSOTE Blanc is not a strong scent. It’s not subtle either. You can really get a good whiff of it when it’s worn, but not enough to make your eyes tear up (I hate strong perfumes and colognes!). It’s the kind of scent you notice and will make you do a “double sniff”.
It’s a manly scent that I think can be worn by a blue collar worker or the CEO of a company (a “suit man”). I also think this is a good “anytime, anywhere” fragrance. I think it could easily go from the office to the club. It’s a flexible scent, if that makes any sense?
More importantly both my husband and my son like the scent. Thankfully I received a gift set with the cologne and lotion so they were able to share it (my son has the cologne, my husband has the shower gel).
I’ve asked my son if the girls (or guys) at school made any comments about the cologne. He said one girl did, but he wouldn’t tell us what she said about it (my son is very shy).
There is also another cologne call Noir, also by LACSOTE, that sounds interesting, based on the description.
Noir, most recent launch in the collection is Intense. Aromatic basil and watermelon surround a dewy white floral magnolia, underpinned by intense, deep patchouli and chocolate notes. Perfect for the warm, sophisticated and deep man, who people find themselves drawn to.
I can’t imagine watermelon, patchouli and chocolate scents. I’m intrigued by that combination.
Both gift sets contain Eau de Lacoste cologne and a shower gel and retail for $68. Each would make a great gift this holiday season.

Have you tried these new colognes yet? If so, what do you think about them?

I don’t have a son or hubby to buy for so don’t know about the cologne. I always make or buy my dad something good to eat. Chocolate is usually involved and it’s rich and a yearly treat. I find many men wear too much cologne–guys, a little goes a long way.

My hubby wears cologne and I buy the smell I like usually. Hee dumps it on sometimes so thick though it will gag me. I dont think he notices how strong it is but luckily it calms down after awhile 🙂

Thanks for the post! I’m always looking for new cologne for the men, young and older, on my Christmas list. This scent, the Blanc fragrance, sounds perfect for most guys young and old alike. Thank you for all the specific details of the scent and based on that alone, I ‘m sure I would like it. You’ve helped me with my gift list! 🙂
