Available today (June 10, 2014) is ABC’s hit new drama, Resurrection: The Complete First Season, on DVD.
Have you seen this show yet? If not you are missing out on a true spellbinder.
I was introduced to the show by ABC just prior to the premiere episode. I had received a screener to review. I was fortunate to see the second episode just prior to that airing too. I was hooked from the moment I watched the screener.
Sadly the show airs at the same night and time as another series that I have been watching faithfully since it started too (The Walking Dead). I tried to watch Resurrection during commercial breaks but it always seemed like the series would air commercials at the same time. Resurrection is also the kind of show that you can’t easily pick up on it in the middle of an episode, or even the series, because you’ll be lost and not know what I going on. Sadly I found that to be the case when I tried to keep up with Resurrection. There are so many twists and turns. This is why I have been anxiously waiting for this captivating series to come out on DVD. That way I could catch up on what I missed.
Resurrection stars Omas Epps (House) as Immigration agent J. Martin Bellamy. He is assigned to retrieve a young American boy that was found in a rice field in China and bring him to an agency to take care of the boy and try and figure out who he is. On the ride to agency agent Bellamy finds out that the boy’s name is Jacob Langston (Landon Gimenez) and he’s from Acadia, Missouri.
Hoping to find a happy ending for this mysterious boy, agent Bellamy heads to Acadia where he tracks down Jacob’s parents Henry (Kirkwood Smith – That 70’s Show) and Lucille (Frances Fisher – Titanic) Langston. There is just one small problem – agent Bellamy finds out that Jacob had DIED 30 years earlier. Upon meeting the boy they are convinced that he truly is their dead son. Many questions arise – How is their dead son alive? Where has he been for 30 years? Why hasn’t he aged? How did he end up in a rice field in China?
Most questions arise when other deceased residents of Acadia start to reappear. Even agent Bellamy has stuck around to try and help the residents figure out what it the world is going on.
The series doesn’t rest of Jacob and his family but rather it weaves in and out of lives and families of other “returnees”.
I wish I could tell you more but I don’t want to give away any spoilers. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. The show had me on the edge of my seat episode after episode that I had to “binge watch” the entire series in one day just because I HAD to see what happened next.
I find the show very suspenseful and entertaining. After each episode I find myself trying to figure out what is going on. The series creators make sure not to giveaway too much because they want to ensure that you tune in again to get more pieces to the puzzle.
The creators for the most part are very likable and you can “feel” for them and their situations. After all, adjusting to life after a deceased loved one returns is a lot to get used to.
I like everything about the series, from the beautiful location to the characters and their individual story line.
I am thrilled that I was FINALLY able to catch up with what is going on. Now I’m super excited to see what happens in season two.
Resurrection: The Complete First Season also has a few bonus features including the customary deleted scenes and bloopers.
One featurette shows the series set location in Georgia, which looks really pretty. Another featurette, Resurrection: Building a Mystery, features the cast of Resurrection and their theories on how deceased residents on Arcadia are coming back to life. I must say that I find some of their theories very interesting, some of which I considered myself.
Look for Resurrection: The Complete First Season on DVD where most movies are sold.
