Adorable & Super Easy Bumble Bee Cupcakes

Yesterday while at the Spring Blogger Event presented by Sandra Lee we were served the most adorable Bumble Bee cupcakes. Unfortunately I didn’t have the opportunity to try one out (they looked so good too!). They were just so darling I don’t think I could have eaten one anyway.

These are so easy to make too. I am not a baker. I cannot bake to save my life (ha ha) but I CAN frost cupcakes like this. I can’t wait to have an occasion where I can make cupcakes so I can make these adorable cupcakes.

All you need is a plain cupcake. It can be any flavor you want.

If you know how to make your own frosting from scratch that is great (I wish I knew how). For those of us who don’t, or who just want to keep this as simple as possible, simply take a container of white Vanilla frosting and add in a couple of drops of yellow food coloring to achieve the desired Bee Hive color. Or look for a pre-made yellow colored frosting on the store shelf.

Fill a pastry bag with the frosting. If you don’t own a pastry bag you can do what I do. Fill a Zip Loc bag (storage or freezer size works best) with the frosting. Seal it up and using your hands try and move all the frosting to one corner. Once you have done that snip off the end of that corner, creating a hole. That is where the frosting will come out of. As you frost use your hands to keep squeezing the frosting into the corner where the hole is.

To create the Bee Hive look circle the frosting along the outside edge of the cupcake and slowly spiral inward overlapping the previous swirl as you go along so that it builds up some height.

The Bubble Bees are super easy to make. All you need are some black jelly beans, yellow icing (you can find the small squeeze tubes in the baking aisle) and some sliced Almonds.

Place the jelly bean on the cupcake where you can the Bumble Bee to go. Carefully pipe on two yellow stripes. As you can see from the cupcakes in my photos you don’t have to be perfect when it comes to the stripes. In fact I think it makes them even cuter when they are a little “off”.

After you have added the stripes insert two sliced Almonds on both sides of the bee body to create the wings.

That’s it! It’s that easy to do. I can’t wait to try these out for myself. When I do I’ll upload the photos on my blog so you can see. If I can do this YOU can do this too.
