Beaches, staring Betty Midler & Barbara Hershey, now avilable on Blu-ray

I have to admit that I’ve never seen the movie Beaches before, until now. I have heard of the movie, and heard great things about it. I just never had the chance to see it. I was excited to recieve a copy of the movie to review.

Beaches, which was originally released in theaters 1988, is now available on Blu-ray. Beaches stars Bette Midler as C.C. and Barbara Hershey as Hillary. The film also stars Mayim Bialik as a young C.C. I remember Mayim from her days on the TV series Blossom. Many people might know her better as Amy, Sheldon’s “girlfriend” on the show Big Bang Theory. FYI… Mayim has a PH.D in Neuroscience in real life.

I heard Beaches was a sad movie. It does have it’s ups and downs but be prepared with a box of tissues almost at the end of the movie. 🙁

Beaches is the story of two life-long best friends, C.C. and Hillary. They met on the beach as young girls and kept in touch through a series of letters until they got older.

As adults C.C. and Hillary saw each other as often as they could. C.C. focused on her music career and Hillary went on to college to become a lawyer.

Both women experienced a lot of ups and downs in their lives, but through it all, they were always there for each other. At one point Hillary came to live with C.C. until their friendship was pushed to the limit when both women fell for the same man. That was the “straw that broke the camel’s back’ and the friends parted ways.

Life carried on for both ladies until they got back into each’s lives again and their friendship was rekindled.

The friends were always there for one another through marriage, divorce, childbirth and career highs and lows. That is until something tragic happens to change both of their lives forever. I can’t tell you what happens, I’ll just say you need to make sure you have a box of tissues handy.

This is a wonderful movie and I wish I had the chance to see it sooner. I’m glad I finally had the chance to see it.

This is one of those “tug at your heartstrings” type movie. You really become emotionally invested in both of the main characters. You’ll  laugh with them, cry with them, get angry with them… the same emotions you’d have with a real life friend.

Two thumbs up for the film as well as Mayim Bialik as the young C.C. They did an excellent job casting her for that role (she does look a lot like Bette Midler).

This film features the Grammy winning song “Wind Beneath My Wings”, sung by Bette Midler.

Here are a few clips from the film.

Look for Beaches on Blu-ray where ever movies are sold.
