Bring NASA technology into your home with Airocide

We all want to live in a safe environment, especially when it comes to your family. There are many ways in which we try and make our homes safe including setting up baby-proof locks, using non-toxic products and installing a home security system. While these ideas are certainly great and beneficial, there is so much more you can do, including making the very air that you breathe safe.

We go throughout our days breathing and don’t give it much thought. It’s just a bodily function that we do naturally with no forethought.

You would think that the air you are breathing in your home is safe and healthy for you. We would assume that air that smells foul or filled with a chemical scent is harmful if breathed in. As long as your home smells clean then the air you breathe must be fine. That is not always the case. In fact there are a lot harmful things floating around the air that you are breathing in RIGHT NOW.

Right now the air you are breathing most likely contains VOC’s. VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compounds. VOC’s are colorless, odorless and hard to detect. But they are present in the air that you breathe. VOC’s are emitted from every day products that you use including cleaning products, paints, wax, varnishes, cosmetics, disinfecting products, office equipment such as copiers and printers, glue, hobby products and markers, to name a few. VOC’s are everywhere but they are more concentrated inside than they are on the outside.

VOC’s can have short term, or long term, adverse effects on your health. Other air pollutants that affect the quality of the air that you breathe include pollen, dander, dust, bacteria, viruses, mold and fungi.

About a month and a half ago I was asked if I would like to review a new product called Airocide. Initially I assumed it was another air purifier, which we already have. In a way it is, but it takes cleaning the air you breathe to a whole new level.

NASA Airocide

Airocide was developed by NASA. Yes – NASA! Just that along piqued my interest in the product. Airocide has also been approved by the FDA which was another selling point for me.

Airocide eliminates (not filters) virtually 100% of all airborne pathogens leaving you and your family healthy, clean air to breathe.

Airocide works by drawing in harmful airborne pathogens (VOC’s, allergens, pet dander, etc.)  and forces them into a densely packed matrix which destroys them on contact. Nothing is captured so there is nothing to clean. (i.e. no filters!) All that exits is crisp, clear air.  The company has spent more than a decade testing and retesting Airocide, and has found that typical Airocide users feel all-around better between four and six weeks. Think of it as a “zapper” for bad ingredients in the air (similar to the way a bug zapper nullifies any bug that happens to fly into it).

I knew I had to give Airocide a try and anxiously waited for my review sample to arrive. I was so excited that we set it up right away.

I have been waking up almost every morning with sinus headaches due to my stuffiness. I’m assuming it’s just allergies (or something along those lines) because I didn’t have a cold. I was hoping the Airocide would help with those horrible headaches. We also have a cat with severe asthma and I was hoping that the Airocide might be able to help her to breathe better too (and have less asthma attacks).

Here are two videos that explain how Airocide works. The first video (http://bit.ly/13Xx7sC) is a very technical, scientific explanation. It uses “big words” but you can get the general idea. The second video (http://bit.ly/Y27yEw) is Ellen DeGeneres and her visual explanation on how Airocide works. I like Ellen’s version better (especially the ending).

The Airocide unit is large, but no bigger than most other air purifying systems. You can put Airocide on a shelf, on top of a dresser, mount it to the wall or purchase an optional stand. It needs to be between 1′ – 8′ off the ground. My Airocide is on my desk and about 4.5′ off the ground.

Unlike other air cleaner systems there are no filters to clean out or replace. All you need to do it dust it and make sure that the vents are not blocked.

The Airocide unit is meant to run 24/7. There are different settings – low, high and automatic. Mine has been on automatic since day one. It costs roughly .65 cents per day to run. Cost wise it might be more than other appliances and devices in your home, but you also have to take into consideration that you are cleaning the air that you breath with the best technology available.

The unit sounds like a small fan when it use. It doesn’t bother me much during the day but at night it does bother me a little. It doesn’t bother anyone else in my home. I just happen to have a little quirk where certain sounds make me anxious (such as repetitious sounds). Occasionally I notice the fan speed up and then go back to normal. That is because it’s picking up something in the air that is not normally there.

I found it interesting that when I took the photos of the unit as soon as the flash went off the fan speed increased. I wonder if the flash is emitting something into the air?

Most people report the air feeling different within a day or two, others within the first or second week of use. I would have to “guestimate” that I started to notice a difference in about two weeks. That is when my sinus headaches started to decrease. I was having a sinus headache almost every morning when I woke up. After a couple of weeks of using the Airocide the headaches and stuffiness decreased each day. I haven’t had a sinus headache in well over a month. I’m not as stuffy as I used to be either. My husband says he’s not as stuffy as he normally is. He jokes that he’s been stuffy since 1986. Ha Ha.

As far as out cat Bella and her asthma I didn’t notice a difference. She still kept having asthma attacks. She’s currently on two different inhalers (human inhalers) and THANKFULLY she hasn’t had an attack in about a week. I attribute that more to the medication than I do the Airocide.

I have also noticed that I don’t feel as sleepy and groggy as I usually do too. The unit is on my desk and I work at my desk all day long. In the past I have been overwhelmed by the feeling of tiredness that seems to just hit me out of no where. Sometimes it’s so bad I feel like I need to lie down and take a nap. I haven’t felt that way in weeks. I feel more awake and better able to focus and get work done.

Thankfully my family has not really had any colds for the past few weeks. I did have a stomach virus but whose to say where that came from. I think the Airocide has helped my family remain “cold free” for time we’ve been using the unit.

Overall I am pleased. I am grateful that I was afforded the opportunity to give the Airocide a “test drive”.

Airocide is so sure that you and your family will notice a difference that they offer a money back guarantee.

Right now Airocide is offering a free decorative sleeve for your unit (normally an additional cost). I have a sleeve on my unit that makes it look like it has a wood casing. You do not need to use the decorative sleeve if you don’t want to.

Other accessories are available (or soon will be) including a wall mount and a stand.
