If you are around my age (43 – blah!) you’ll most likely recall the insane craze that surrounded the release of the first ever Cabbage Patch dolls. And by insane I do mean INSANE!
I remember when the buzz about Cabbage Patch dolls spread like wild fire. People were paying hundreds, even thousands, of dollars to get their hands on one of the “must have” dolls. My sister actually had a Cabbage Patch doll before I did, and she’s 8 years older then me. She was an older teen when they came out. She contacted our relatives in the United Kingdom who were able to track one down and had it shipped to my teenage sister here in New York.
I got my Cabbage Patch doll a year or so later. It was a boy. I named him Brendan James. He had short, curly, dark blonde hair (back in the day hair was made out of a yarn-like material). He came with a cute pair of brown overalls. I would dress him up like a football player. He was going to be in the NFL when he grew up. Ha Ha.
I still have that Cabbage Patch doll, in fact I saw him not to long ago, around the holidays. He was in one of the boxes we accidentally brought up from the basement when we brought up the Christmas decorations.
My daughter played with my Cabbage Patch doll when she was younger. She also had her own dolls too. She had two little girls, both with blonde hair too. My daughter has reddish brown hair but she always had a thing for blonde hair dolls.
My daughter’s Cabbage Patch dolls are long gone (we donated them to a local Head Start program) but I kept my doll. My Cabbage Patch doll has a lot of sentimental value for me.
Over the years Cabbage Patch dolls have changed with our changing times. One of the biggest changes was when they went from having yarn hair to realistic hair, and from. Their faces, accessories and fashions have changed over the years too.
The Cabbage Patch dolls are back and better then ever. The new Cabbage Patch dolls are so much more fashionable then they were when they first came on the scene in 1983.
Jakks Pacific, Inc. is releasing a new line of Cabbage Patch dolls this month called Cabbage Patch Kids Fashionalities. Jakks will appeal to new fans of Cabbage Patch Kids with an entirely new crop of one-of-a-kind ‘Kids with a contemporary positioning and modern style that today’s kids can relate to.
The new Cabbage Patch Kids Fashionalities stand around 14” tall and have beautiful silky hair. These dolls each feature a different Fashionality style that little girls and boys can all relate to. There are going to be twelve unique personalities that will appeal to kids today from ‘prepsters’ and ‘skateboarders’, to ‘girly girls’ and ‘artsy’ girls. There’s a style for every personality.
Each Cabbage Patch Kids Fashionalities will come with a unique one-of-a-kind name, birth certificate and a unique code to download the heart warming Cabbage Patch Kids video “The New Kid”.
The dolls are made for ages 3 and up and will sell for a suggested price of $34.99.
Jakks Pacific sent me my very own Cabbage Patch Kid Fashionalities doll. She even came with my name on her birth certificate! How cool is that. My doll is named after me. 🙂
Opening the box made me feel like a big kid all over again. I couldn’t wait to get her out of the box.
The back of the box featured pictures of different Cabbage Patch Kids Fashionalities dolls and fashions. My apologies for the dark and grainy photo. My camera was not cooperating with me that day.
I couldn’t help but give my doll a great big hug. She was just as cuddly as I remember.
The doll has really soft and silky hair, unlike the yarn hair that my other doll has. I can see how a young girl would want to spent hours upon hours brushing, combing and styling the Cabbage Patch doll hair. Even my own daughter took apart her hair style and started to play around with different looks.
Here are a few random shots of my doll, Kimberly.
How cute is she! Again, I’m sorry for the horrible quality of the photos. Her hair was very messy in these photos. We took off her hat and found her hair was a bit messed up from being in a box for a while. My daughter removed the elastic bands on her pig tails and combed her hair a few times. It looks much better now. My daughter tried different looks on her but I really like the half pig tails just like in the picture. I used to do my daughter’s hair the same way.
Our doll, Kimberly, has adorable boots that have a soft and fuzzy trim. My daughter says they remind her of Ugg boots. I love her cute denim overalls and white tee with purple trim too. And check out her smile! I love her smile with all those pearly white teeth. 🙂
Jakks Pacific, Inc. is also releasing a couple of other Cabbage Patch Dolls lines including Cabbage Patch Kids A,B,C — Play With Me. These dolls feature cute and cuddly Toddlers with the same soft and cuddly body as the regular Cabbage Patch Kids dolls, but these dolls have interactive features. The Cabbage Patch Kids A,B,C – Play Withi Me Toddler dolls sing the ABC’s, plays the kazoo, slurps from an Apple & Eve Fruitables juice box, giggles and laughs, and even babbles when you put your finger to his or her lips! I can’t wait to see one of these. They sound so cute! Their recommended for ages 3+ and will retail for around $35.00.
Another new Cabbage Patch doll line is the interactive Cabbage Patch Kids “Dirty to Clean” Bath Newborns. These are a fun way to introduce the younger set to Cabbage Patch Kids. Babies love to play, so it is important to scrub them clean. The adorable Cabbage Patch Kids “Dirty to Clean” Bath Newborns feature a cool color-change feature. Each newborn doll will appear dirty, then with a magic mommy touch, take the wash cloth and wipe them clean and see the dirt disappear. Awww!!! These dolls are also recommended for ages 3 and up and will retail for $20.00.
The Cabbage Patch dolls are back and better then ever with new fashions and personalities, plus interactive features. I have a strong feeling that these dolls are going to be the “must have” toys of the 2011 holiday season.

Oh my goodness! The doll is adorable. I love how she looks in her little hat.
I used to have several Cabbage Patch Dolls when I was a young girl. I think my daughter might really enjoy these. She might be a little on the “old” side to play with dolls but she loves collecting dolls and I agree that styling their hair would be a lot of fun.
Thank you for the review.

You Kimberly get to review the best stuff! I love Cabbage Patch Dolls. I got one when they first came out and my older daughter loved playing with her. Our youngest daughter came into our family through adoption when she was nine, five years ago and I am still peeking into all the boxes in the toy department when I see Cabbage Patch Dolls to find one with the same adoption date! Thanks for the great review. I am excited to see the new dolls in the store.

I dunno, I had 3 of the originals (my brother had 2 also) and I don’t think I like where these new ones are going. Kinda like the “update” Strawberry Shortcake had. Don’t mess with good things!

OHHHH, my neices would love the new dolls. I remember having several as a little girls and would love for them to have one. My sister and I would have hours of fun play with them. A lot of our childhood toys were destroyed during Katrina.

I was an “old” married lady by the time Cabbage Patch Dolls became the rage. I had a disabled niece who was pining away for one. My sister tried and tried, but to no avail. People were being turned away from stores in droves. I decided I would not be turned away. I stood in line at one store for almost 9 hours, but I got one! You had no choice. They would hand you a box and you either took it or it was passed on to the next person in line. I didn’t think she’d care at all what the doll looked like so I took my box, paid for it and ran home. When I looked in the box, I was thrilled to find a little girl with long brown pigtails and big green eyes, just like my niece! I don’t think either one of us ever forgot that doll.
