Do you enjoy coloring? Most children do, but as an adult, do YOU like to color? Believe it or not my husband and I find coloring very relaxing. As odd as it sounds we will often sit down together and color. My husband even has to have his own crayons, other then the ones the kids use. He likes to use crayons in pristine condition (the kids tend to break them and tear off the paper).
I know, it sounds weird, but try it some time. It really is very relaxing. 🙂
My kids don’t color like they used to now that they are older. I do remember when they were really into coloring and how I would look for just about anything for them to color. We had tons of coloring books. I would even print things off the computer for them to color.
There are plenty of sites on the Internet where you can print out coloring pages. One such site is Color You Smart.
I checked out all the images currently available at Color You Smart. I’m sort of “on the fence” about them. They do offer a unique variety of coloring pages. Not too many sites offer coloring pages of famous people like Van Gogh and Da Vinci.
Color You Smart has several categories of color pages including animals, famous people, history, religion, and buildings. The images look to be hand drawn.
If you are looking for “cute” images like puppies and flowers, you won’t really find that at Color Me Smart. I didn’t find many of them “cute”.
Many of the images you cannot color with crayons. These are best suited for colored pencils or thin markers.
Even though this site wants to offer families fun coloring pages, I honestly think the images available would be better suited for school projects or lessons. I can’t see a child saying to his parents “I want to color a picture of Marco Polo“. I can however see a child coloring in a picture of Marco Polo to add to a class assignment or research paper.
Looking at Color You Smart through my “Mom eyes”, I can see some value to the site as far as education is concerned. There are many coloring pages I could see my kids printing out, coloring and adding to a report or project. Many of the coloring pages feature interesting facts about them, both on the coloring page it’s self and on the website. For example, on the coloring page for the Apollo Crew it says “Did you know that Michael Collins never set foot on the moon? He was the captain of the space module and during the whole time that Neil Armstrong and Edwin (Buzz) Aldrin were on the moon, he circled the moon.”
As I mentioned earlier, I’m “on the fence” about Color You Smart. As far as the coloring pages go the quality is not that great and it would be hard to use crayons. From an educational standpoint this is a nifty resource to have to jazz up class assignments and projects.
This is a subscription based service. If you are a subscriber and there is something specific that you would like to have a coloring page for all you need to do is e-mail them and they will be happy to assist you. I think that could have it’s benefits, especially when it comes to school assignments.
The company is owned and run overseas, however people world wide can use the service. The cost is approximately $3.84 a month (3 Euros), or $46.20 per year. Teachers and schools can buy a group subscription and use the artwork in the classroom.
To learn more visit www.ColorYouSmart.com.
Color Me Smart would like to offer 5 year long subscriptions to 5 lucky readers (one subscription per winner). That is a $46+ value.

I would like to color the entrance to Disney Land. This would be nice for me to do with the kids while they are coloring their “less sophisticated” works of art. Maybe I could talk to them about the history about what I’m coloring as a little lesson. =) Thanks for the review and the giveaway.
