I was a little bit disappointed when I found out that DisneyNature was not releasing a film this year in honor of Earth Day. In the past DisneyNature has brought such breathtaking films as Earth, Oceans, African Cats and Chimpanze to life. The next film to be released is called Bears and it will be in theaters just before Earth Day 2014 (release date April 18, 2014).
Bears is directed by Alastair Fothergill and Keith Scholey, who also worked together on African Cats. If you are interested I did an interview with Keith Scholey back in 2011 where we talked about African Cats. You can find the interview here – Chatting with African Cats Director Keith Scholey.
Here is a little background information about the new film.
In an epic story of breathtaking scale, Disneynature’s new True Life Adventure Bears showcases a year in the life of two mother bears as they impart life lessons to their impressionable young cubs. Set against a majestic Alaskan backdrop teeming with life, their journey begins as winter comes to an end and the bears emerge from hibernation to face the bitter cold. The world outside is exciting—but risky—as the cubs’ playful descent down the mountain carries with it a looming threat of avalanches. As the season changes from spring to summer, the brown bear families must work together to find food—ultimately feasting at a plentiful salmon run—while staying safe from predators, including an ever-present wolf pack. “Bears” captures the fast-moving action and suspense of life in one of the planet’s last great wildernesses—where mothers definitely know best and their cubs’ survival hinges on family togetherness.
Check out this beautiful video (just over 2 minutes) that talks about DisneyNature films and gives you a sneak peak into Bears. I cannot wait to see this film!

Here are some interesting facts about the film and DisneyNature that you might enjoy.
Bears is the fifth release for Disneynature, the first new Disney-branded film label from The Walt Disney Studios in more than 60 years. The label was launched in April 2008 to bring the world’s top nature filmmakers together to capture a variety of wildlife subjects and stories.
The first four releases under the Disneynature label—Earth, Oceans, African Cats and Chimpanzee—are among the top five highest grossing feature-length nature films of all time.
Walt Disney was a pioneer in wildlife documentary filmmaking, producing 13 True Life Adventure motion pictures between 1948 and 1960, including Seal Island (1948), Beaver Valley (1950), The Living Desert (1953) and Jungle Cat (1958). The films earned eight Academy Awards®.
DisneyNature has done some amazing work over the years. Their films not only entertain but also educate. A portion of ticket sales goes towards a charity related to each film.
Here is some additional informabout about DisneyNature.
Disneynature was launched in April 2008. Its mission is to bring the world’s top nature filmmakers together to share a wide variety of wildlife stories on the big screen in order to engage, inspire and educate theatrical audiences everywhere.
Disney’s commitment to conservation is a key pillar of the label and Disneynature films empower the audience to help make a difference.
Through donations tied to opening-week attendance for all four films, Disneynature, through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, has planted three million trees in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, established 40,000 acres of marine protected area in The Bahamas, protected 65,000 acres of savanna in Kenya, protected nearly 130,000 acres of wild chimpanzee habitat, educated 60,000 school children about chimpanzee conservation and cared for chimpanzees.

My grandson who is 5 will love this when it does finally come out. He is so into science, nature, animals, etc. I personally am not into it but since he is, we get as many books, etc. so he can be educated. I do love that they are helping out like they are but I too want it out sooner.

Bears are such beautiful creatures. It is amazing to see them in the wild. when we lived in Montana we saw plenty. You have to keep your distance. But if you were back far enough that you could just watch them it leaves you in awe. this sounds like a good movie.
