It’s Easter time!
There is so much to love about this holiday…
- The beginning of Spring
- Spending quality time with family and friends
- Coloring Easter Eggs
- Hiding and looking for Easter Eggs
- Easter dinner
- Getting dressed up
And much more.
I think one of everyone’s most favorite things (especially for children) are Easter baskets and all the goodies that come with them.
When my kids were younger I used to always make their Easter baskets. I had fun doing so and I liked that I had full control over their contents.
I know how much kids love candy and what kid doesn’t dream of an Easter basket overflowing with candy. As a parent I have to take things into consideration, especially not giving my kids too much candy. Their grandparents used to give them Easter baskets too, and they were always filled with candy. So to balance things out the baskets I made for my kids would have more non-candy items then candy. My kids never complained. They always loved their Easter baskets.
Some of the items I would fill their baskets with include;
- Coloring books
- Crayons
- Plush animals
- Toys
- Books
- DVD/Blu-ray
- Hair Accessories (for my daughter)
- Chalk
- Bubbles
- Crafts
Of course I would include their favorite candies.
You can buy pre-made baskets, but what is the fun is that? It’s more of a convenience than anything else. Plus some of those pre-made baskets can be very expensive because you are paying for the convenience more so than the content.
You can easily make your own Easter baskets for $25 or less. In fact if you have a nearby Rite Aid you can find everything you need to make wonderful Easter baskets your child or grandchild will love.
Rite Aid sent me a gift card and challenged me to create an Easter Basket using items found at my local Rite Aid. That was easy!
I picked up a basket (which happened to be on sale), plush bunny, really cool neon-color green “grass”, candies, plastic eggs, crayons and some coloring and activity books.
As I mentioned I am not big on stuffing baskets with candy. I would rather fill them with fun non-candy goodies children can enjoy long after the holiday is over.
The first thing I needed to do was fill the basket with the colorful “grass” that I purchased.
I picked up some fun coloring and activity books based on popular television characters. I work with little kids and I know how much they love these characters.
I tucked the books standing upright in the “back” of the basket. Then I plopped the cute bunny I found at Rite Aid front and center. I like the bunny. He looks realistic.
I left the prices on the books so you can see how inexpensive they were. The coloring books were HUGE too (very thick- many pages).
I picked up a package of assorted chocolates which came in different flavors and shapes. I also picked up some jelly beans. No basket is complete without jelly beans.
I put a a chocolate and a couple of jelly beans in the pastel colored plastic eggs I picked up at Rite Aid, then tucked them inside the basket around the bunny.
Then I took the remaining candy (a small tin of M&M’s, a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup and a bag of Reese’s Pieces), the crayons and a package of glitter glue and placed them around the basket.
Ta daa! My basket looks just as good as the pre-made ones you can buy for a lot more money. Plus when you make them yourself you have total control over what goes inside of your child/grandchild’s basket.
I think any child would be THRILLED to have a basket like this, and I didn’t have to “break the bank” to put it together.
Rite Aid has everything you need to create your child’s perfect Easter basket. To find a location near you visit www.RiteAid.com. You can also find them on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. All their social media links are found at the bottom of their website.
