Do you have any “burning” grilling questions? (gift card giveaway ends 7/22/13)

Are you getting ready to fire up the barbecue for the long holiday weekend? I wish we were. We are not allowed barbecues in our condo complex (as per the Fire Marshall). We can only barbecue at my father’s house upstate. My father is out of the country visiting relatives for a couple of weeks, so we’ll have to miss out on barbecued foods this holiday weekend.

I can honestly say that I have never used a barbecue before. Growing up my mom and dad did the grilling. When I got married my husband became the “grill master”. Whenever we get together with my father and stepmother it’s my husband who does the barbecuing. Some day I’d like to give it a try.

My husband tends to barbecue hamburgers and hot dogs. I keep asking if he could barbecue some chicken for me. He doesn’t like to barbecue chicken because he really doesn’t know how. I told him just to slap some chicken on the grill. He said that the chicken needs to be boiled first. As per my hubby his mom used to always boil the chicken before putting it on the grill to keep it moist. I have never heard of anyone doing that before.

To find the answer I took my question to a Grill Master for LongHorn Steakhouse.

Q: Do you have to boil chicken before putting it on the grill?

A: Fresh Chicken can be cooked on the grill from raw without any pre-cooking. Chicken breasts cook great on the grill depending on size in about 8-12 minutes, flipping half way through the cooking process.  And don’t forget, always insure the cooked chicken reaches 165 degrees before serving. – Robbie Rutherford, Grill Master.

Now that we know the answer my husband said the next time we have a barbecue we can make some barbecue chicken. Yeah! I have been craving barbecue chicken for the longest time. It’s great on pizza with some red onions. Mmm… now I’m hungry!

Do you have any grilling questions that you would love to have answered? For a limited time you can!

LongHorn Steakhouse has launched the LongHorn Grill Us Hotline, where the restaurant’s certified Grill Masters will be on hand to answer consumers’ burning questions and help take the heat off cook-out preparation this upcoming holiday weekend.  From choosing the best, freshest cut of steak, to achieving the correct grill temperature and using proper seasoning techniques, LongHorn’s experts are on hand to help.

Grilling happens to be one of America’s favorite pastimes. In fact, 87 percent of American households have outdoor grills*. And, no holiday is more synonymous with grilling than July 4 with nearly 890 million pounds of chicken, red meat and pork purchased the week leading up to the holiday*. But, for those doing the cooking for family and friends, manning the grilling can be an intimidating process.  Enter LongHorn’s Grill Us Hotline.

“Not only has LongHorn been expertly grilling fresh, never frozen, steaks, chicken and fish in our restaurants for more than 30 years, we serve approximately 650,000 steaks every week, which means we know a thing or two about grilling,” said John Fadool, head of marketing for LongHorn. “Grilling can be tricky and require skill, so we’re ready for anyone stepping up to a grill this holiday weekend to call and grill us.”

What a great idea. If you are planning on hosting a barbecue this holiday weekend, or if you have grilling questions you have been looking to find the answers for, then you should take advantage of the LongHorn Grill Us Hotline.

Here are a few tips you might enjoy from LongHorn Grill Masters.

 LongHorn Grilling Tips

Please don’t think your question/questions are silly. They are not. The experts are there to help answer any grilling question you might have.

There will be 25 Grill Masters on hand to answer your questions. These Grill Masters also work at LongHorn restaurants. They will be available to provide grilling tips and tricks on the hot line from July 3rd – July 6th. They will be available from 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM (EST) each day.

The Hotline is accessible via phone, text and Facebook:

    • Phone: Dial 1-855-LH-GRILL (1-855-544-7455) to be connected to a Grill Master
    • Text: Text LHGRILL to 40679 and a LongHorn operator will call and connect users to a Grill Master (standard texting rates apply)
    • Facebook: Post a question to LongHorn’s Facebook wall at www.Facebook.com/LonghornSteakhouse, and our experts will answer it in real time. Add the hash tag #LHGRILL to follow the conversation and view others’ questions.

July also happens to be National Grilling Month. After the holiday weekend if you still have grilling questions you can post your questions on the LongHorn Steakhouse Facebook page ever Saturday (July 13, 20 and 27) from 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM (EST) each day.

Did you know that every LongHorn restaurant has 2-3 Grill Masters? In order to become a Grill Master, LongHorn provides candidates with extensive on-the-job training to ensure that they are experts at understanding how to prepare the correct cut of steak, know the appropriate amount of seasoning to apply and consistently grill steak to the right degree of doneness.

If grilling is not your thing, or you want to take a break from barbecuing, stop into one of 430 LongHorn Steakhouses across the country and let one of the Grill Masters do the work for you.

To find a location near you visit www.LongHornSteakhouse.com. Don’t forget to check them out on Facebook (link above). You can also check them out on Twitter.
