Mother’s Day is this coming Sunday. Mother’s Day! That’s crazy! I think this quarantine has really thrown me off. It’s bad enough that I have to look up the date and day of the week, but now I have to keep an eye out for upcoming holidays too? Sheesh!
I remember what a struggle it was to find the perfect gift for my mom for Mother’s Day. Don’t get me wrong, she appreciated flowers, balloons and candy, but I always wanted to show her that I put more thought into the gifts that I bought her. For example, I saw her admiring a bracelet we came across at an antique store one day. I went back to purchase it and gave it to her for Mother’s Day. She loved it! After she passed away I took the bracelet back. It reminds me of her every time I wear it. I plan on giving it to my daughter some day.
When it comes to looking for Mother’s Day gifts, not only did I look for a gift that my mother could use, but I also appreciated gifts with meaning and purpose.
There is a brand called Bia that I recently learned about. Here is a little background on the company;
With women’s empowerment making daily headlines, the goal of Biais to support women to become the healthy, educated, independent, protected and valued individuals they are meant to be. Strength—physical, emotional and constitutional—underpins the company’s collection of sport watches. Bia is charity focused. Bia donates a percentage of proceeds from each sale to organizations working to give women the support they deserve to be independent, educated, healthy, protected, and valued. The company gives a percentage of each sale to women’s organizations that foster Bia’s principles. Time’s Up, an organization that insists on safe, fair and dignified work for all women is one such benefactor.
Each Bia wristwatch features a superior illumination system called Visible247 that is the highest-performing photo luminescent technology in injection molded polymers ever created. With just 10 minutes exposure to any light source, every Bia timepiece stays illuminated for at least 10 hours. Metaphorically speaking, this capability aligns with Bia’s vision that women who empower other women can light the world on fire with the smallest of sparks.
The launch collections include the Rosie Dive series and the Suffragette series. Inspired by Rosie the Riveter, the Rosie Dive Series honors the World War II icon for the feminist movement, and the beginning of women moving out of the home and into the workforce en masse. The Suffragette series celebrates the women that fought for women’s right to vote beginning in the 19th century and perfectly timed to the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment that was enacted in 1920.
I know that most smartphones double as time pieces, but not everyone has their phone “glued” to their hand 24/7. In addition, many companies and businesses don’t want employees gazing at their phones the whole time they are at work. For that reason I appreciate having watches. A watch allows me to keep track of time, without worrying about someone getting the wrong idea and think that I am reading Facebook statuses or checking out Tik Tok videos.
Another reason why I appreciate watches is because they double as a piece of jewelry. Watches come in different looks, styles and colors.
I also think that watches are great for “on the go.” Say for example your mom likes to run/job or go on long walks to take in some fresh air and get in some exercise. A watch is much better to take with you than a smartphone. You don’t have to worry about dropping it (cracked screen!) or losing it.
Bia was kind enough to send me one of their watches to check out for myself. I received to review their Bia ‘Rosie’ Dive Watch (B2008). I chose this watch specifically because I LOVE the color of it. Green is my favorite color, and this watch is a beautiful, colorful shade of green.
According to the website, this watch features;
- 38mm 316L stainless steel case
- Screw down crown and case back
- Uni-directional Rotating Dive Timing Bezel
- Japan Quartz (Miyota 2317) Three Hand and Date Movement
- Visible247 illumination technology in the dials (10 minutes of light exposure yields 10 hours of glow)
- Highly scratch resistant K1 glass crystal
- 200 meters water resistant
- Silicone Strap with “easy-release” spring pins for fast strap changes
The watch’s straps are buttery soft and smooth to the touch. The underside of the straps have texture to them. I would think that the strap’s design allows for air to pass under the band, so as not to make your wrist feel hot and sweaty.
The straps have a nice thickness to them too. These are clearly not “cheap” or poorly made.
I love how “shiny” the watch face is. It’s silver in color, and when the light hits it, it sparkles and shines. This is why I see watches as pieces of jewelry, in addition to a functioning time piece.
The watch face has some depth to it too. It’s not “flat” in appearance. It’s hard to explain. All I can say that the face it’s self looks really nice.
My favorite feature is the way it illuminates. It’s true what the brand says, just a few minutes of sunlight helps it to illuminate for a long time. The watch face glows a similar color as the band.
Here is a photo of my watch face illuminated. I took a picture of it in the bedroom closed (the darkest place in our home).
Look at how pretty the watches “glow” in the dark after even a few minutes of sunlight.
I like how the watch feels on my wrist too. It’s very comfortable to wear.
If you are looking for a thoughtful gift for Mother’s Day – a gift she will use frequently – you should check out the watches from Bia.
Bia watches are available for purchase online at www.biawatches.com. MSRP $175 to $225 depending on style. Each collection also has a variety of replacement straps so wearers can easily customize their style and color.
Bia also makes beautiful watches for men. Don’t forget Father’s Day, which will be here next month.

Hi Kimberly,
I just wanted to thank you for your kind review of our Bia watches and the dive model you commented on in particular. We work very hard to deliver a top quality product and pride ourselves on this aspect of our business as quality is very important for us with our brands. You correctly noted that we donate to organizations that help to support and foster empowerment of women, and in fact this is the reason for the conception and creation of the brand in the first place. We funded the brand because we notice that this type support seems needed. Billie Jean King fought for equal pay 50 years ago and yet this discussion is still going on, a half century later?!?! The Equal Right Amendment was first discussed almost a century ago and yet this is still not ratified to the US Constitution? Both of these facts were a couple of the impetuses for us to develop this brand and push toward true equality for the sexes. Thank you for highlighting our product and supporting our effort. If you could take more pics when convenient and post them to social media we’d be appreciative as the most important thing for us now is to spread the word on our brand and its mission, that in theory should benefit ALL women. We thank you in advance for any and all support.
BIG THANKS!!! Barry
