When I was younger I would NEVER leave my home without being fully made up. I would be dressed nice, have on matching jewelry and my hair and make up would look perfect. I would spend well over an hour in the bathroom just to get ready for school. Looking back on it now I realize just how silly it all was. I honestly wasn’t vain – I just wanted to make sure that I looked good.
Fast forward 20+ years. I wear whatever is comfortable and nice looking. I don’t wear jewelry often. My hair is normally air dried and in a pony tail and my make up is as minimal as possible. Dare I even say that I will leave the house without make up on and go days without wearing any? Even though I think I look horrible without at least mascara and eye liner, my hubby things I look beautiful natural looking (no makeup).
When I was younger I used liquid foundation, concealer, powder, and blush on my face (not including eye makeup). I always hated how weighed down my skin felt and how gross it felt on a hot and humid day. I could not wait to wash it all off. It’s funny to think I’d spend an hour putting it on only to count down until I could take it all off.
I have not used foundation or concealer in many years. I prefer to use mineral makeup on my skin. It’s lightweight and doesn’t make me want to wash it off the moment I get home.
I have tried several mineral makeups over the years. Some are decent, others are not worth the money I paid for them.
The downside to mineral make is that it tends to get everywhere. Since it’s a lose powder when you put it on your face it gets all over your clothes and counter top. I make sure to put my makeup on before I get dressed just so I don’t mess up my clothes.
I received to review a makeup product from legendary makeup artist Jerome Alexander. He developed a pressed ultra-fine mineral makeup powder that comes in a compact. It’s called Magic Minerals. The new Magic Minerals is now enhanced with nourishing antioxidants vitamin E and vitamin C in a proprietary formula.
Magic Minerals came with a brush and a small sponge for blending (if you chose to do so – I have yet to do that).
The product is the same size as most other makeup compacts and fits perfectly in a purse or your makeup bag.
The brush is really nice. I plan on keeping it after my Magic Minerals runs out. It would make a great blush brush.
The very first thing I noticed about the product is that it was speckled with different colors – pink, mint, lavender and yellow. At first I thought this was done just to make it look pretty. After reading the packaging I realized that the different colors help correct different skin conditions.
- Pink – Gives your skin a healthy glow and brightness.
- Mint – Helps to make redness disappear. Good for covering up a red pimple or Rosacea.
- Lavender – Corrects yellow skin.
- Yellow – Lightens dark mark like the dark circles under your eyes.
At first I wasn’t sure how to get the colors that I needed in the areas that I needed them most. Another words, how was I going to get the yellow bits on the brush to help correct the dark circles under my eyes without grabbing the other colors too. Then I realized the colorful bits are meant to go over your entire face, so you don’t need to worry about where to put them. The makeup does that all for you.
In addition, Magic Minerals is hypoallergenic, adjusts to your skin color and can last for up to 12 hours. Magic Minerals is also free of fragrance and talc, doesn’t contain any irritants and has a natural SPF (I would still recommend using a sunscreen on your face just to be on the safe side).
To use Magic Minerals all I do is swirl the brush around on the powered compact and then apply it to my face in the same swirling motion. There may be other ways to apply it but that is how I do it.
The makeup goes on easily and does a wonderful job at covering up my “flaws”. It also doesn’t make a big mess like lose mineral makeup does.
I really like how this one step process makes my face look wonderful without having to worry about additional products to fix the flaws. It looks natural too. It doesn’t make me look like I caked on makeup. My skin looks closer to natural than overly made up.
I love how lightweight this makeup feels too. I don’t want to race home to wash my face. There have been a few times I almost forgot to wash my face before bed.
Magic Minerals does a much better – and neater – job at making my face look good after it’s applied (my other makeup gets all over the place).
The makeup came with a mascara. I haven’t tried the mascara yet because I recently opened a brand new mascara and I don’t want to waste it. I am holding on to the one that came with Magic Minerals to use after the current one needs to be tossed out.

This is a new brand to me. Seems like the buzz word in beauty products is mineral makeup. I have used it before and have had awesome results. I really like it (Bare Escentuals) in the summer as it doesn’t melt off my skin. Anything safe enough to sleep in is okay in my book.

I’ve tried mineral makeup, but I feel like I’ve never gotten the hang of it; it just feels dry and cakey to me. Maybe I’ll give it another shot — these products look nice, and they’ll only slightly break the bank.
