Lady Bug Girl (Giveaway)

I just finished reading a cute set of books called The Ladybug Girl, written by David Soman and Jacky Davis. I read both Bug Squad and At the Beach.

The Ladybug Girl books features a young girl name Lulu who is obsessed with lady bugs. So much so she dresses up as one, even going to the beach (complete with wings!). I personally love Ladybugs too. I think they are adorable. Once a year we find dozens of them around our condo. I am not sure why. The same thing happened at my sister’s old house.

We never kill the Ladybugs. We always capture them, take them outside, utter the words “Ladybug, Ladybug fly away home. Your house is on fire. Your children will burn” then blow the Lady Bug out of our hand so it flies away. That is seriously sick when you think about it. I don’t know what it means. All I know is that my mom, who was from the UK, taught it to me when I was little. She also taught me other odd sayings like “Home again, home again, jiggity jig. We’re off to the market to buy us a pig. Home again, home again, jiggity jog, we’re off to the market to buy us a hog”.

Parents are so weird! LOL!

Anyway… back to the Ladybug Girl.

In the book Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad, Lulu, aka “Ladybug Girl”, has a few of her friends over for a day of fun an adventure. All of her friends come dressed up as their favorite bugs. One is dressed like a butterfly, another as a dragonfly. A young boy comes dressed as a bee.

The children have fun in the woods behind Lulu’s home. They even created a fort.

Once back home something happens between Lulu and one of her best friends. Lulu needs to call upon her special persona, Ladybug Girl, to come to the rescue and save the day.

The things I liked most about this book is that I could relate to the creative things the children came up with in the story. For example the children couldn’t touch the ground because it was made out of hot lava. Me and my cousins used to do the very same thing! We’d even play that game in our home and have to walk around the furniture (much to my mom’s dismay) so as not to touch the ground and get burned.

I also like that this book taught a lesson too, that you can’t always have things your own way all the time.

In the story Ladybug Girl at the Beach we learn that this is Lulu’s first visit to the beach. She was all excited about going into the ocean until she actually stood there looking at it and realized that the ocean was vast and noisy with the crashing waves. The sight of the ocean scared Lulu. To entertain herself while at the beach she found other things to do like fly a kite and search for seashells.

I can totally relate to this as well. My son, although probably a lot older then Lulu is suppose to be, feels the same way when we go to the beach. He’s very intimidated by the ocean. It will take him all day just to muster up the nerve to get in about 1/2 way up his shins, not even up to his knees. He loves the ocean. He thinks it’s fun and amazing, he’s just afraid he’ll get swept away.

I found both books to be fun, charming and perfect for a young girl to read, or have read to her. It says it’s for ages 4-8.

I found the books on Amazon and they all get rave reviews. I too really enjoyed these books. Not only are the stories entertaining and relatable but I also enjoyed the colorful illustrations.

To learn more about the Ladybug Girl book series you can visit the official website at www.LadybugGirl.com. There you can find wonderful coloring pages that you can print out with scenes from the books as well as a costume/dress up game, a catching game and a game where you can paint rocks.

I also have copies of BOTH books to give to TWO lucky winners (each winner gets one copy of each book).

To enter please comment on something that you pretended to be when you were little. When I was younger my cousins and I used to pretend to be Charlie’s Angels. I was Jaclyn Smith’s character. LOL! And my cousin John played both Bosley and Charlie’s role. Oh how I loved being a kid!
