Little Giant Extreme Review & Giveaway! ($350+ value)

We live in a tiny condo. You wouldn’t think that we would ever have a need for a ladder. Neither did we when we first moved in here. We figured whatever we needed to do that was “high up” we could just stop on a chair or get a small step stool. We realized quickly that a ladder was essential to the up keep and maintenance of our condo. There are places we need to get to that chairs and step stools just won’t do. We NEED a ladder.

We have never broken down to get a ladder. As you know ladders are expensive. We also have no place to store a traditional ladder. Traditional ladders are also not very handy at times. They are big, bulky and don’t bend the way you need them to.

Thankfully the Little Giant Xtreme has come to the rescue. FINALLY there is a ladder we can utilize in our home, contorts in ways that make it easy for us to get things done, and is easy enough to store when not in use.

You might have seen the Little Giant Xtreme ladder on TV. We’ve seen the infomercials on TV frequently.

Normally I take infomercials on TV with a “grain of salt”. Sometimes those products are just as amazing as they appear on TV. Other times they are a total waste of money. The Little Giant Xtreme is one of those products that are just as amazing in person as they are on TV.

We received a Little Giant Xtreme to review. My husband thought I was nuts to want to review a ladder. He quickly changed his tune when he had a chance to play around with the ladder and put it to use.

The first thing we noticed about the Little Giant Xtreme is that is folds up to be a nice, compact size. Unlike other ladders that are long and cumbersome, the Little Giant Xtreme folds down to be a small size. I didn’t measure it but I would think it’s about four feet tall (give or take) when it’s folded down. It’s also easy enough to carry. It is heavy but not so heavy that my 12 year old son can’t move it around. The Little Giant Xtreme even has wheels on one side so you can easily tip it and push/pull the ladder to it’s destination.

The Little Giant Xtreme is very sturdy. I’m a plus size woman. I am scared to death to stand on anything. I’m always afraid whatever I stand on will tip or break. I refuse to stand on a chair and I don’t trust step stools. I leave all the “high up” stuff to my husband.

I was a bit hesitant to climb up the Little Giant Xtreme, but I did. Wow! I have never felt so comfortable and confident on a ladder before. I wasn’t afraid it was going to tip or break. It felt really sturdy and steady under my feet. I event went to the top step on the ladder and laid my hands on my ceiling for the first time (and noticed all the dust on top of the picture frames – ugh!).

The steps on the Little Giant Xtreme are wider then traditional ladder. The Little Giant Xtreme is also two ladders in one (more about that later) which also makes the steps wide. The top step also features an additional piece that provides you with even more foot room. The platform makes it much more comfortable to stand longer periods of time on the ladder. It makes you feel as though you are standing on the ground.

For someone who has always been terrified to be on a ladder I felt so at ease and comfortable on the Little Giant Xtreme.

For added comfort and security the Little Giant Xtreme also has an additional handle that you can insert into the top of the ladder. It gives you something you can hold on to when you are at the top which provides you with added security and helps you to feel safer. Then handle is part of an “air deck” system. The air deck is another platform that acts as an all-in-one work station. There is a place for all your tools and accessories. It even has a cup holder!

I’m sorry that the photo doesn’t do the air deck justice. This is very handy to have because the last thing you want to do is have to climb up and down the ladder to get your tools, screws, nails, or anything else you might need.

Little Giant Xtreme offers an paint try (sold separately) that holds up to a gallon of paint and attaches to the ladder, making painting much more efficient and easier. The paint tank is also coated with something that prevents the paint from sticking to it. That means clean up is a snap because dried paint literally pulls out of the tank.

I do not have one of the tanks so I cannot verify if it really works that way. I can only tell you what I saw on TV. It looks pretty cool. Considering my husband needs to paint the bedroom and do some touch up painting on the ceiling we will have to look into getting one of those for our ladder.

As an added safety feature the Little Giant Xtreme ladder has a wider base which adds more stability to the ladder.

Unlike a traditional ladder, the Little Giant Xtreme can be contorted in various positions. It has to be THE MOST versatile ladder ever made. You can use it for low heights, for example, to clean the ceiling fans. You can also extend it out as far as it goes and use it to put up lights on your house or get up on the roof for repairs.

The Little Giant Xtreme is like having 24 different ladders in one. It is an adjustable 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 foot A-frame step-ladder, a 90-degree ladder, an adjustable extension ladder (11 – 19 feet), a staircase ladder and a trestle-and-plank scaffolding system – all in one!

Here are a few examples of the various ways the Little Giant Xtreme can be positioned.

For my family the Little Giant Xtreme will serve us well in it’s normal, un-extended state. However my husband does want to use the ladder to reach the the air conditioner. Up until now we’ve never had anything that we could use to reach the air conditioner. Now we can put a cover on it to keep the draft from coming into the bedroom during the Winter months.

Under normal circumstances I would be hesitant to use a ladder bent in all those different positions. I would feel like the ladder will come undone and will collapse or fall over. I wouldn’t feel that way with the Little Giant Xtreme. This ladder has really strong “locks” that keeps the ladder in whatever position you want.

The locks are easy enough to use. Simply push in the orange knobs, position the ladder the way you want it, then release the knob. Solid “bars” (for lack of a better description) keep the ladder in it’s place.

Earlier in my review I mentioned that the Little Giant Xtreme was actually two ladders in one. You can slide out one ladder from the other, giving you TWO ladders. The Little Giant Xtreme comes with special end caps that convert the insert ladder into a separate ladder.

Two ladders allows you to have two people working on the same project at the same time. Or you can purchase the optional plank and turn the ladders into a trestle-and-plank scaffolding system.

The Little Giant Xtreme is so much more then a basic ladder. It’s also something that will be used again and again in various capacities. Men and women will find uses for the Little Giant Xtreme whether it’s cleaning off the top of the kitchen cabinets (I plan on doing that with the ladder) or doing repairs around the home.

This is the one and only ladder you’ll ever need.

Check out this video featuring the Little Giant Xtreme (it gives you better visuals).

  6. while I can think of several uses for this in this house… one thing in particular comes to mind as impossible without it! Changing the lightbulb going to the 3rd floor… In their infinite wisdom… they placed this light fixture on the ceiling at the height of the room ceiling… That means I’d have to be about 20′ tall to reach it… obviously, I’m not… so a ladder that can stand level even on stairs would be invaluable!

We have bought a house and have been remoldeling, the little giant would be a great help. We would use it to hang sheetrock on the ceiling, hang and paint the trim in the house. Install the lights. I really love the lockable position, so we wouldn’t have to worry when we are focusing all our attention hanging sheetrock on the ceiling. Thank you for this giveaway.

  19. I own my own home, so I would use it for everything from painting ceilings and walls, hanging Christmas lights outside the house, gutter cleaning and repair, window cleaning, changing lightbulbs in the overhead lights, replacing the ceiling fan in the living room (and then installing that one in my bedroom)… the list goes on and on!

The feature I love the most is that it’s convertible, so I don’t have to invest in multiple ladders – sometimes I’ll need a step ladder while other times an extension ladder will be what I need.

I like that it is convertible and folds easily into a small space-our old ladder was stored in the barn and was covered in spiderwebs and dust when I used it last.

I deathly afraid of height and recently/ currently unemployed. IHowever it looks like a sturdy built ladder so that may probaly help in my fear factor. 338. I have owned several ladders over the years and hated all of them. About 10 years ago I moved into my current house and while working on the swamp cooler a new neighbor introduced himself and snickered at my POS ladder. He proceeded to bring over his little giant, man what a difference. I hate to admit I am a little afraid of ladders and its from using cheap ladders for many years. For years the neighbor always left the little giant in the shed and I had a key for when I needed it. I hate to say in the past 6 months my neighbor lost his home due to the economy, and now I am out a good ladder, I need a little giant!

I install satellites so im on a ladder every day. I have a small truck and an extention ladder does not fit well in it, it has to be strapped down to carry it so i dont carry it all the time. If i get to a house and need it i have to drive back and get it, sometimes thats means 30-40 miles. I have used little giant ladder at customers houses and I feel so much more comfortable on them. I love the idea of the air deck, that would be so handy for my job.

My poor husband – he’s really getting tired of me asking him to “help” me (i.e. do it). Chairs are not the most stable, nor do they give me any real height. Forget about hanging artwork on the walls along the stairs – neither of us can get high enough. let alone maneuver the ladder in a way that isn’t unstable or awkward.

I’m trying to get the entire interior of my home painted this winter. So far the office area is done, and all without a ladder. I use an old dining room type chair to stand on to paint, and would love a “real” ladder for my own safety if nothing else.

I’m excited about the option to make this ladder into scaffolding. I might purchase that option if I win this, because it would save so much time if I could paint a larger area before I had to get down and move the ladder.

    Thanks for the give away.

  650. I am constantly doing household remodeling projects. This ladder would allow me to reach parts of the house that I’ve been a bit afraid to attempt with a traditional ladder. I love the options available for configuration. It’s greatest feature is it’s flexibility.

  651. I left a comment on your post titled, “The Story of Everdream: The Christmas Witch”. Thanks! trishden

  652. I would be able to get up on my roof & sweep all the pine cones & branches off. I don’t trust the ladder I have presently.

My husband is in construction so he would use this for his job. The feature I like most is that it converts to different ladders. My husband would have to spend alot of money to get different ladders when he could just have this one.

  693. This is the coolest ladder!

I’m going to tell you a tiny story about OUR ladder. We’re up on this nasty old wooden ladder, it’s wggling, it’s giving me splinters, but it’s the only 1 we have.

My father in law says “You know where I got that ladder? I found it at the landfill!” lol THANKS, DAD!

I’d use this ladder for tons of things. The way you can set it up securely on uneven ground is my favorite feature, though. My horrible old ladder going BACK to the landfill? Second favorite. 😉

  695. I am a recent new home owner and need a ladder for the many projects that lie ahead of me as I bought a slight fixer-upper. This was described to me as “sweat equity”. This ladder will be invaluable as is converts to so many different types and configurations of ladders. I especially like that it will convert to scaffolding which will make painting the outside of my home next summer a cinch!

  696. I like Little Giant Ladder on FB.

  697. I would give this to my mother for her around the house projects. She is always standing on chairs to vacuum the ceilings or fans and to hang things up for seasonal decorating. It scares the bajesus outta me when she gets on those chairs.

  699. I would use it to change light bulbs on some ofour high ceilings. Fav. feature is how much more compact it is than a regular ladder

  708. I have a bi-level house with gutters that have come loose, and when it rains, water pours down the side of the house and infiltrates the basement. I have a standard ladder that takes up a ton of space in my garage but it’s not long enough to reach the gutters, so I can’t fix them myself with the ladder I currently have. The Little Giant Extreme is long enough to enable me to get to the height I need, plus it is so nice and compact as opposed to the useless ladder currently taking up space in my garage.

  727. I would love to win this. I would use it to put up my Christmas decorations! The wheels are fantastic!

  728. I can find tons of my things for my husband to do around the house, like gutters, painting the house inside and out 🙂

  729. I would use the little giant to make my wife happy. She hates cobwebs, dust, dirt, and anything else unclean. So with the ladder I would be able to clean those high places I could not reach otherwise. Also be able to clean the windows that have not been cleaned in years. Wasp nests are another thing hanging on our house I cannot reach. I would also be able to inspect the roof and get into the attic to make sure my house is not falling apart behind my back.
P.S. I hope santa or LittleGiant reads this……Thanks for your consideration.

  730. I am moving into a brand new home and will be painting. It has a staircase and I was wondering how I would paint that without breaking my neck. This looks perfect!

  731. I just got an estimate to paint my hallway that goes up stairs. It’s an area that will take less than 2 gallons of paint to cover but since it is a two story tall surface the quote was over $1000. Who can afford that in this economy?! I could do it myself for $60 worth of paint and a Little Giant Extreme. I would love to have one of these ladders.
