Move over potato chips – make way for Simply Sprouted Pita-ahh Chips


I’m not a huge fan of potato chips, but I do enjoy them from time to time. I actually love how they taste. It’s the sodium, grease and fat that concerns me. Not to mention have you read the ingredients in a bag of ordinary chips? Yikes! There is A LOT more to them then just potatoes and salt.

We’re all human. We enjoy crunchy snacks and sometimes that means indulging in chips. There is nothing wrong with that as long as you make smart choices and watch your portions.

The company, Way Better Snacks, as introduced a new line of crunchy snacks that are worth checking out. They could even be used instead of chips at your summer barbecues.

The new line of Way Better Snacks is called Simply Sprouted Pita-ahh Chips.

Simply Sprouted Pita-ahh Chips are made out of Sprouted Red Fife and hearty Spelt as well as other unprocessed ingredients. They are available in three savory flavors; Toasted Garlic, Smoked Havarti and Sea Salt.

To be honest with you I have NO CLUE what Sprouted Red Fife or Spelt is. Thankfully there are explanations on the Way Better Snacks website.

What is Red Fife? The foremost ingredient in the new Pita-ahh chips, Red Fife has a rich history. According to legend, this heritage grain originated in Western Ukraine and was later cultivated in Canada in the mid-1800s on the Fife family farm. Its name is derived from the original red color of the wheat kernel and the name of the farmer, David Fife. Canada is renowned for its fine wheat crops and nutritious Red Fife, one of Canada’s oldest, hardiest and best spring grains, is a star among them.

This delicious grain is prized for its deep red color, complex flavor, subtle texture, honey aroma, and superb nutrients. Red Fife naturally contains a form of gluten that’s easily digestible for most people.

Spelt, from what I have read online, is an ancient grain widely recognized for its many health benefits and is hardier and more nutritious than modern wheat.

In addition to being made with Red Fife and Spelt, Simply Sprouted Pita-ahh Chips are certified Non GMO, Kosher, Vegan and an excellent source of whole grains and fiber. They are also low in sodium. They are also made with a form of gluten that most people can easily digest.

As if that wasn’t enough they also don’t contain trans fats, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

Most people would think something like this would taste like cardboard. To be honest I was thinking that myself. The Pita-ahh Chips seems to be made without all the “bad things” that seem to make everything taste good.

My husband refused to try them. I think he’s much more of a picky eater than either of my kids.

My teenage daughter went crazy for the Pita-ahh Chips – literally. She ate them almost every day. She especially loved to dip them in hummus. She would have a handful of these chips and some hummus almost every day after school. She also enjoyed them “as is” straight out of the bag. In fact she asked me to pick up more of these chips after she finished a good portion of them.

My son was on the fence. He ate them but he didn’t go as crazy over them as my daughter did. He would alternate between these and other chips that we had in the pantry. The fact that he did eat them is a good thing. If the other chips were not available I am sure he would have enjoyed the Pita-ahh Chips more.

I’m a bit on the fence about them myself. They are very flavorful. I think it’s the texture that throws me off a bit. You can tell that they are “grainy”. Not that it’s a bad thing, I just think it’s a texture that you have to get used to. These are NOT like ordinary chips. You can taste that they are made differently. It think once you are accustomed to the texture and get past that the flavor is what really “sells” you on them. My personal favorite was the Toasted Garlic. I love things mad with garlic.

These chips are interesting and unique. They are great for dipping too. I would be interested in dipping these in a Greek yogurt based dip. I bet that would taste amazing.

If you are looking to offer guests healthier for you options at your next party why not pour out a bowl or two of Simply Sprouted Pita-ahh Chips. They are unique and different and I’m sure guest would welcome them as a change of pace from greasy, salty chips.
