Now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download is the DreamWorks film Delivery Man, staring Vince Vaughn, Chris Pratt and Cobie Smulders.
Back in September of last year I had the opportunity to visit one of the film sets on the streets of New York City. I also had the opportunity (along with other wonderful bloggers) to meet and interview Vince Vaughn, Cobie Smulders and Writer & Director Ken Scott. If you put the words Delivery Man in the search bar on my site (top right) you can pull up the interviews.
In this heartwarming comedy, underachiever David Wozniak (Vince Vaughn) learns he’s actually an overachiever — he’s fathered 533 children via donations made twenty years earlier! David soon discovers that the shock of his life might just be the best thing that’s ever happened to him. Along the way he discovers not only his true self, but also the father he could become. Also starring Chris Pratt and Cobie Smulders — and complete with bonus materials, including behind-the-scenes footage — it’s a feel-good movie that really delivers.
Can you imagine having 533 children – plus another one on the way (David’s girlfriend is pregnant in the film). I only have two children and I sometimes wonder if I’m equipped to raise them. Sadly when the hospital hands you your previous bundle of joy they don’t include an “owners manual”. LOL!
Raising children is easy. Raising teenagers… that is a whole other ballgame. I’ll take changing diapers and watching Barney any day over loosing sleep while your child is at a party or stressing out the moment they get in a car with another teen (especially one of the opposite sex).
I wouldn’t even know where to begin with 533 children. That is the same dilemma David faces in the film.
Prior to having children I didn’t have a worry in the world. I was enjoying hanging out with my friends and doing wild and crazy things. I grew up about two hours north of New York City. I wouldn’t think twice when a friend would call at 11 PM and say “What are you doing? Let’s go to the city” and hop in an car and drive to NYC for a few hours. Once I had my first child that all changed. Suddenly I felt like a grown up and I realized that I had to be a responsible adult for the sake of my child. I can still do wild and crazy things, but my family comes first and always will.
When I think of Vince Vaughn I think of silly comedies like Wedding Crashers and Dodgeball. I had initially thought this film would have been a silly comedy too, that is until I had the opportunity to watch it. This film is what you might call a “Dramady” – part drama, part comedy. It’s not drama in the hardcore sense, but there is a lot of soul searching and heartbreaking moments with some humor sprinkled in as well.
Delivery Man is actually a remake of the movie Starbuck which was written and directed by the same person who did Delivery Man – Ken Scott.
It was nice to see another side to Vince Vaughn. I normally picture him as a goofball – but in a good way of course.
The whole idea of fathering 533 kids does sound a bit unreal but I suppose something like that could happen. I couldn’t even imagine what it would feel like to know you fathered so many children.
In the film all of David’s children are young adults. Each has their own issues that they want to overcome. One daughter is a drug addict. Another boy just needed a father in his life and sticks to David like glue. Another son just needed a boost of confidence from someone like David to help him go for his dreams. David even has a child with physical limitations (that part was very sad).
Overall it’s a feel good movie. I am happy with the way it ended.
There are some bonus features included with the Blu-ray (not sure about the DVD).
- Building Family – There were a lot of actors used in this film. Learn how the pretend siblings bonded during the making of the film as if they were real siblings.
- Vince Vaughn: Off The Cuff – Just more proof that Vince Vaughn is total goofball and very funny.
- Bloopers
- Deleted Scene: You Are Under Arrest
Speaking of funny, when we were visiting the set in NYC we watched a scene being shot between Vince and Cobie. Vince was constantly cracking jokes to make us laugh – even breaking out into song (along with Cobie) singing Bonnie Rait’s “Let’s give them something to talk about” knowing all too well that we are bloggers and we would write about it. 🙂
Here are a few scenes from the film.
