Now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download is the action-packed comedy The Heat, staring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy.
I did not have the opportunity to see this film when it was in theaters, but I heard nothing but great things about it from friends who had seen the film. I was looking forward to the film to come out on Blu-ray/DVD so I could see it.
The Heat is a comedy (and sometimes drama) that stars Sandra Bullock as FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn. Agent Ashburn is a very skilled agent, often impressing (and aggravating) her co-workers.
Agent Ashburn wants to be promoted but her boss feels that she doesn’t really have the people skills she needs. He agrees to consider her for the promotion if she can help solve a case in Boston.
Once in Boston, Agent Ashburn is paired up with a rebellious, foul-mouth, violent Police officer name Shannon Mullins. Mullins does things her way where as straight-laced Ashburn is very much by the books.
The pair have to locate, and take down, a drug kingpin name Larkin.
While in Boston Ashburn gets to meet Mullins crazy, tough-as-nails family (with very heavy Boston accents). Mullins also learns that her brother, who was recently released from jail, is now working for Larkin. Now it’s more important than ever to capture Larkin before her brother’s life is at risk.
Will these mismatched crime fighter find their man? Or will they end up killing each other or getting fired before that happens? To find out you need to pick up a copy of The Heat where ever movies are sold.
Sandra Bullock has proven time and time again that she has act. Whether it’s drama (I LOVED her in The Blindside) or in a romantic comedy (The Proposal), Sandra Bullock can pull off just about any type of roll. Melissa McCarthy on the other hand is best known for her unique brand of comedy. No one can pull off such crass and crude comedy has Melissa. If you have ever seen her in Bridesmaids, think of her character Megan with a gun. 🙂
Bullock and McCarthy have wonderful on screen chemistry. When you watch the bonus features you’ll see that the chemistry was the same off screen as well.
The Heat had plenty of laugh out loud moments. Some of my favorite scenes included the night club when Mullins is trying to loosen up the straight-laced Ashburn so that she fits into the club scene.
Mullin’s family was also funny. I think they stole the scene whenever they were in it. They reminded me of my husband’s big, loud Italian family – but with heavy Boston accents. It was funny to see how they bickered and held several conversations at the same time. The Mullins family was so funny together that they even created a bonus feature around the family – Meet the Mullins.
Speaking of bonus features, the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack comes with plenty of bonus features. The bonus features are just as funny as the film – if not funnier because the humor in the bonus features was all nature including bloopers and behind the scenes silliness.
As funny as this film is it’s NOT “family friendly”. McCarthy’s character has a “potty mouth” (meaning she curses a lot). Sadly my teens probably hear this language – and worse – on a daily basis in high school. This film is rated R due to the language and some violence.
The Heat is the best female buddy film I have seen in a very long time. I am looking forward to seeing these two together again (as per IMDB there is possibly a Heat 2 in the making).
Did you see The Heat? If so, what did you thin about the film?
Here is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.
Here are some fun e-cards you can send to someone featuring the ladies from The Heat. You should be able to “right click” and “save as”. Then send them in an e-mail to your boss, friend or anyone else you thin might get a kick out of them. 🙂

Kimberly, do you know why there are no special features on the DVD of this film? Or, if there are, is there some special magic egg thing you need to access them? LOVED the movie, but very disappointed that were wasn’t even a gag reel! If you know something I don’t, would you please let me know? Anyone can email me about this. Thank you.
