Did you know that this is National Women’s Health Week? It started on May 10, 2015.
As a woman I SHOULD take better care of my health. Like most women I am running around doing this and that, taking care of my family and attending to their needs, cleaning my home, cooking meals and a million other things. Taking care of “me” is never a priority – but it should be. I think many women are guilty of neglecting their health.
I have a few doctor’s I know I need to make appointments to see. I am slowly doing that. I just went to have my eyes checked (the last time was four years ago) and I have an appointment with my OB/GYN later on this month. The next doctor I’d like to see if the Dermatologist to have him check out the moles on my skin. I had to have six “suspicious” ones removed a few years ago and I want to make sure that there are no more that I should be concerned about.
Allstate has teamed up with author Hollye Jacobs, to promote New York Times bestselling book “The Silver Lining.” The guide book was written to help women diagnosed with breast cancer as well as their friends and families. The book empowers women to take control of their health and their happiness. Both Allstate and Jacobs are on a mission to connect women nationwide by sharing their silver lining stories.
“Sharing advice and support through the partnership with Allstate and ‘The Silver Lining Companion Guide’ is an incredible and unique opportunity to reach everyone impacted by breast cancer,” said Jacobs. “I wish I had this guide when I was going through breast cancer. This is what inspired me to write the book and support those who are going through this experience, just as those who came before me made my path more bearable and more effective.”
On May 14, 2015 (today) Jacobs will launch the Spanish version of the guide to accompany the English version currently being shared with women nationwide. Joining that mission is Adamari Lopez, a well-known Latina actress, personality and breast cancer survivor. Together, the women will share their experiences, inspirations and wishes to support others impacted by breast cancer with the help of the free guide.
Did you know that in 2014, it is estimated that more than 250,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed. That is a very scary thought.
Did you also know that MEN can get breast cancer too? My paternal grandfather had breast cancer and had to have his left breast removed. That was back in the mid-80’s. He was left with a huge scar.
“No woman should be alone in the struggle against breast cancer,” said Thomas J. Wilson, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Allstate. “This guide will be a source of comfort, knowledge and inspiration. We are thrilled to be able to help magnify Hollye’s voice for those women who hear the dreaded words, ‘You have breast cancer.’ This completely aligns with Allstate’s purpose which is to be a force for good in local communities and protect people from life’s uncertainties.”
The Silver Lining guide book is available FOR FREE. It’s available in both English and Spanish versions. You can download it and read it from any e-reader or your computer. In addition, through the nonprofit Direct Relief, a printed version of the guide will be available at participating distribution centers throughout the country.
If you would like to download a version of the companion guide or to view a complete list of participating distribution centers, visit Allstate.com/SilverLining.
Please pass on this information to all the women you know in your life as well as your followers on social media (Facebook, Twitter…) in hopes that women and their loved ones having to deal with a breast cancer diagnosis.
