What I am about to say might make some women gasp in disbelief… I hardly wear make up. 🙂 I know there are plenty of women out in the world who will not take one step outside of their home without looking perfect. I used to be that way. I made sure I looked my best from head to toe, including make up, hair and accessories. Over the years I just realized that it wasn’t as important to me as it used to be.
I do wear make up, just not every day or all day long. I’m happiest when my face feels fresh and clean. When I go out I usually pat on some power, add some eye line and mascara and I’m out the door and ready to face my day.
One thing I never got into was lipstick. My mom would put it on the moment she rolled out of bed in the morning and keep it on until she was ready to put her head on the pillow at night. I like lipstick and I think it makes women’s lips look beautiful. I just never met a lipstick that I liked. I don’t like the way lipstick makes your lips feel. It also tends to dry my lips out.
I have used colored lip gloss from time to time, but I’m not a fan of the high gloss appearance. I just want to add a little color to my lips, not make them shine so brightly you can see them from outer space (ha ha).
I also find that lip gloss tends to come off too quickly and I find that I have to always re-apply it.
Have you ever heard of lip stains? They color your lips in a similar way suckin on a cherry Popsicle would. Or the way your tongue gets stained with a color when you suck on a lollipop. It’s not a permanent stain, but it’s enough to keep your skin colored for a while and it won’t come off too easily.
A lip stain does the same thing. It “stains” your lips and the color stays on for a long time.
I have never hard of the brand Jane Iredale until now. She has a lip stain that sounded really interesting and I just had to try it.
jane iredale’s Lip Fixation in Passion – A classic red pout is yours with this cool cherry red stain with a complementary clear gloss. Packed with botanicals, the stain actually soothes and pampers lips for comfortable, buildable coverage without feathering or drying. Because it’s buildable, you can control the boldness of the look – Apply a light single layer of stain and soften with the gloss for a sheer, popsicle-mouth finish.
I like that it is not suppose to make your lips dry out. It has soothing botanicals to keep your lips from drying out like they can with traditional lipsticks.
I also liked the idea that you can build the color so that you can make the color as light, or dark (bold) as you want. Since I have very fair skin I really can’t pull off a bold, red lip.
The Lip Fixation has two sides – one side is the “stain” (color) and the other side is lip gloss. You can use them individually or together.
WOW! The color is really bold. Even with just one application my lips jumped off my face (or so it would seem). Even with just one application it was more then enough.
The lip stain is applied with a sponge tip applicator, making it some what easy to apply it precisely. But what out. One little goof up and your lips are not going to look right. There were a few times I didn’t apply the color just right and my lips looked distorted. It “stains” on contact. After several applications I got the hang of it, but there were still a few times that I messed up.
I found that it was best for me to apply the stain and then wait a minute and gently blot off (or wipe off) the excess. Even doing that my lips were still full of color. The color seemed to last pretty much all day. At night I had to wash the color off with a wash cloth and a little cleanser.
I was happy that the color stayed on. It also didn’t try out my lips which was a huge bonus as far as I’m concerned. It didn’t even feel like I was wearing anything on my lips.
The other end of the Lip Fixation was a clear gloss. The gloss end had a brush with bristles rather then the sponge like applicator like that stain side.
I didn’t like the gloss at all. I found it to be TOO glossy. I also didn’t like the way it felt on my lips. You could tell there was something on your lips (it was rather thick too). After trying it a few times I stopped using the gloss end.
Over all I like the Lip Fixation lip stain. I wish they made it without the gloss end and I would love it if they had lighter colors for us “pale” people, like a light peach or pink.
Another product that I had the opportunity to try out was the Jane Iredale 24-Karat in Gold Dust.
jane iredale 24-Karat in Gold Dust – Apply to cheeks, eyes and lips for a delicately gilded look. But don’t stop there! Mix it with a moisturizer for the décolleté or with your favorite hair gel for added sparkle. With seven luxurious shades to choose from, you can mix and match to suit any mood.

This is a fun product to have on hand for those moments when you just want to add a little shimmer and shine. A little bit goes a long way. Trust me, you don’t want to take too much out of the little jar or you’ll have way more then you need.
What I love about this product is that you can use it just about anywhere. I like to put a dollop of moisturizer in my hand and sprinkle a little bit of the Gold Dust on top, then mix it together with my finger and then apply it to my arms, shoulders and chest area. The sparkle does not stand out too much so it’s not going to look silly or “tacky”. When the light hits your skin just right it looks like its glistening. I like that. I think it makes your skin look healthy.
You can also use this as an eye shadow (use sparingly) or sprinkle a little in your hand and take a large make up brush, blot it on to the dust in your hand, and then blot it on your face to give your face a bit of a glow too.
I have tried it in my hair. It was hard to tell that it was in there. Either I didn’t use enough or my hair is just too thick to notice.
I like the Gold Dust. It’s a fun product to keep in your cosmetic bag. You never know when you might want to add a little sparkle to your look.
Mine doesn’t really look Gold like in the professional photo. Mine seems to be more like Diamond Dust. I think I was sent the wrong color, but none the less it does the same thin.
I tried to take a photo of my skin with the dust on it but it didn’t come out well in photos. All you saw was my skin. You couldn’t tell that it was a glistening with the dust on it.
