I cannot remember how it first started, but many years ago (back in the 80’s!) I had an idea to use Cool Whip to frost a cake I was making. I don’t know why I thought to do that. It just seemed like a good idea at the time. I don’t remember if I heard of doing that from some where, or it was just something that came to me. I am lucky if I remember what I had for breakfast let alone 20+ years ago).
Using Cool Whip as frosting turned out great. From that point on I used it frequently on cakes and cupcakes. It works best when it’s thawed (spreads easier). Then just pop it in the fridge to firm it up again. Because it’s real Cool Whip it can’t be left out. I has to be kept in the fridge. That is fine with me.
When my husband and I were dating I made him a few cakes using Cool Whip as frosting. I think I made it a little too much because for a while he never wanted to look at a dollop of Cool Whip. LOL! 🙂 He’s OK with it now.
Fast forward to today. Now there is an actual Coo Whip Frosting! Not only that it comes in different flavors too – Vanilla, Chocolate and Cream Cheese. YUMMY!!!!
Sadly, because the product is so new it’s not available in all stores – yet. You can check to see if it’s in your area with the product locator: http://ProductLocator.KraftFoods.com/KraftFoods/ProductLocator.htm. Just do a search for Cool Whip Frosting and put in your zip code and it will tell you what stores in your area currently have the product available. I am anxious to try it so I hope it will appear locally for me in the very near future.
The new Cool Whip Frosting can be found in the freezer aisle next to regular Cool Whip topping. You will need to thaw it first before using it. Either let it thaw at room temperature for an hour before using, or let it sit in the fridge for four hours before you are ready to frost with it.
This perfectly sweet frosting is whipped so it’s easier to spread. Unlike other frosting products the Cool Whip Frosting won’t tear your cake or cupcakes (I hate when that happens!).
Try using Cool Whip Frosting on your traditional holiday desserts and treats instead of what you regularly use. I’m sure family and friends will enjoy the new twist on their favorite treats.
This would be great to keep in the freezer for those times when unexpected guests stop by and you need to whip up a quick and easy dessert. You could easily pick up a pre-made pound cake and frost it with the Cool Whip Frosting for a tasty dessert.
I’m thinking about how this frosting would taste spread in the middle of two cookies? Humm… I’ll have to try that.
If you need some inspiration, check out these recipes.
I saw Cool Whip Frosting (S’mores recipe) in the latest edition of All You magazine.
Look for the new Cool Whip Frosting in the freezer aisle of a store near your (or use the store locator linked above).
For more information about Cool Whip visit www.KraftBrands.com/CoolWhip. You can also check out the brand on Facebook and Twitter (also look for the hashtag #CoolWhipFrosting). I also found their Pinterest page, which of course features a lot of great recipe ideas too. There are also recipe ideas (with mouth watering photos!) on their Facebook page too.
