I LOVE it when Disney re-releases films on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy. We have many classic Disney movies on VHS tapes, but we no longer have a VHS player (we haven’t had one of those in like 10+ years!). Slowly we’re able to replace our VHS tapes with Blu-ray/DVD copies of our favorite films. Hopefully one day soon we’ll have all of our beloved Disney films on Blu-ray and/or DVD (our Blu-ray player plays both formats).

Two more Disney films have made their way to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download – The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan: Return to Never Land.

I am a big time Winnie the Pooh fan. I even have a Winnie the Pooh inspired tattoo on my ankle. Who cannot help but fall in love with the sweet, whimsical characters of the Thousand Acre Woods?

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is actually a combination of three classic Winnie the Pooh films – Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966), Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968) and Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too (1974).

It’s hard to believe that the chubby little bear has been endearing fans since 1966! Actually the books have been around since 1926.

All three films are shown the same way they were when they were first released. You might notice a slight variation in the characters and scenery between the three films, but they still seem to flow seamlessly together.

Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree – Winnie the Pooh wakes up to find out that he doesn’t have anymore honey to eat. After seeing a bee fly by he decides to follow him to see if he goes back to a hive that contains honey. Pooh finds the tree and tries to climb it but the tree is too high and Pooh fell to the ground.

Determined to get the honey Pooh borrows a balloon, rolls in mud and tries to pass himself of as a little black rain cloud. That is one of my favorite Winnie the Pooh scenes and songs.

I’m just a little black rain cloud
Hovering under the honey tree
I’m  only a little black rain cloud
Pay no attention to little me…

The bees are not fooled and end up chasing Pooh and Christopher Robin away.

Determined to find honey Pooh ends up at Rabbit’s house. To his surprise Rabbit has honey – and a lot of it.

After gobbling up all of Rabbit’s honey Pooh finds himself stuck in Rabbit’s doorway. Even the residents of the Thousand Acre Wood are unable to free Pooh. Poor Pooh. He always gets himself into these predicaments.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day – The weather reaps havoc on the Thousand Acre Woods. It’s an especially windy day which causes Pooh to be blown around. First he encounters Gopher who makes Pooh believe that today is Winds-day. He sets off to wish his friends a Happy Winds-Day.

When Pooh comes across Piglet he finds that he’s caught up in a kite string. When he tries to help him the pair end up getting blown around past their other friends and eventually ending up at Owl’s tree house. The wind is so strong that is knocks down Owl’s tree house. Owl blames it on Pooh, not the weather.

That night Pooh is in his home alone when he hears strange noises coming from outside. It turns out to be a bouncy orange tiger name Tigger. I believe this is the first time Tigger makes an appearance. Tigger’s visit is brief and he leaves shortly after trying out some honey (which he didn’t like). While he was there he tells Pooh about scary creatures called Heffalumps and Woozles which cause Pooh to have a bad dream.

When Pooh awakens from his nightmare he finds that the rain has caused a lot of flooding. The flooding puts Piglet in jeaporday and Pooh and their friends come to his rescue. Thankfully they are able to save him. Christopher Robin is so impressed by Pooh’s heroics that he throws a hero party for Pooh. It’s during this party that Pooh does something else that could be seen as “heroic” but I won’t give you anymore spoilers.

Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too – Tigger loves to bounce. That gets on the nerves of some people, including Rabbit. Rabbit gets very annoyed with Tigger and all his bouncing around.

Roo wants to play but Kanga is busy. She asks Tigger if he could watch Roo for her. He agrees and the pair go off into the woods. In the woods they come across Rabbit who is ice skating, Tigger tries to show Roo how to skate.

Afterwards Tigger and Roo head off deeper into the forest. Tigger is not paying attention and ends up jumping high up in a big tree. When he realizes how high he is he panics and can’t move. Meanwhile Roo thinks its fun and uses Tigger’s tail as a swing.

Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too

Meanwhile Pooh and Piglet are investigating mysterious footprints that they believe belong to a “Jagular”. They are really Tigger’s footprints.

Pooh and Piglet follow the prints deep in the woods and come across Tigger and Roo stuck in the tree. They go and get help and Christopher Robin is able to get Roo down, but not Tigger. Tigger refuses to come down. That is until Tigger takes over the narration and turns the book around so he can get out of the tree.

Rabbit makes Tigger promise never to bounce again. At first he was OK with it but soon he gets very depressed because Tigger’s are meant to bounce. Seeing how sad his friend is Rabbit says it’s OK for Tigger to bounce again.

There are a lot of great bonus features that come with the film.

A Day for Eeyore featurette – It’s Eeyore’s birthday. His friends from the Thousand Acre Wood want to throw him a party and lavish him with gifts to cheer him up but nothing seems to go right.

Peter Pan: Return to Never Land.

This is a sequeal to the classic Peter Pan movie.

Wendy Darling is all grown up and now married with children. She has not seen Peter Pan since she was a little girl. She tells stories about Neverland but no one really believes her, not even her own daughter Jane.

Even though years have passed Captain Hook is still determined to capture Peter Pan. He decides he’s going to use Wendy as bait and returns to our realm to capture Wendy. Instead he snatches up her daughter Jane.

Not realizing that Jane is not Wendy, Captain Hook sets her up to draw out Peter Pan so he can capture him. Peter Pan sees what Hook is up to and rescues the girl, thinking she is Wendy. He is shocked to find out that she is Wendy’s daughter. Peter Pan is sad that Wendy has grown up.

Jane still does not take Never Land seriously. She doesn’t even believe in Fairies which causes Tinker Belle to get sick – very sick.

Peter Pan thinks he can keep Jane in Never Land and asks her to be a “mom” to the Lost Boys. Jane is furious and wants to go home. She wants no part of Never Land, the Lost Boys or Peter Pan.

Jane meets up with Captain Hook again. This time Hook wants her to help him capture Peter Pan and in exchange he’ll help her to return home. Jane agrees.

Never Land

After a while Jane warms up to the idea of Never Land, the Lost Boys and Peter Pan. Accidently one of the boys blows the whistle that Jane was giving from Hook which helps Hook to swoop in and grab Peter Pan and the Lost Boys. As a “thank you” he lets Jane go.

Jane rushes back to find Tinker Belle, but it’s too late. Due to Jane’s non-believe in fairies, Tinker Belle passed away. Based on all that has happened thus far Jane starts to believe – truly believe. This helps to revive Tinker Belle and bring her back to life.

Together with Tinker Belle, Jane was able to save Peter Pan and the Lost Boys. And with the help of Tinker Belle’s pixie dust she is able to return home to her mother Wendy and the rest of the family.

Wendy and Peter Pan come face to face again. Peter Pan is disappointed that she grew up but Wendy assures him that she is still a little girl inside. That is enough to make Peter Pan happy and he returns back to Never Land and Wendy and Jane return to their normal lives.

Bonus features include Pixie Previews – Five cute vignettes based on the Tinker Bell series. They are cute, especially for Tinker Belle fans.

Deleted Scenes – Some of the scene are in storyboard form, which is always interested to see. There are several deleted scenes.

Music video for the song “I’ll Try”.

Both movies were fun to watch. I was especially please with the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Peter Pan: Return to Never Land is an “OK” film. It doesn’t compare to the original. At times I found it a bit “dark” for my tastes. It’s not fun and whimsical like other Disney films.

Look for both movies where ever films are sold.
