Say “merci” (Thank You) to your child’s teacher (giveaway ends 6/7/13)

Can you believe it’s almost the end of the school year? For some students the school year has already come to an end. My kids still have another week or two of regular classroom instruction (mostly reviewing material) before they have to deal with the dreaded final exams.

Final exam time is crazy because my kids come and go on different days and times.

Part of me cannot wait for school to be over so I can sleep in past 5:45 AM. Another side of me dreads it because I have to find ways to entertain my kids as well as become their person chauffeur and drive them all over the place. Now that out daughter is official 16 she can legally work without needing working papers. We want her to look for a part time job this summer, more so to give her something to do.

Both of my children had some great teachers this year (although one of my son’s teachers rubbed me the wrong way). When I asked my children which were their favorite teachers they had a hard time picking just one. My daughter eventually told me her Italian teacher was her favorite. My son chose his Social Studies teacher.

Teachers work hard all year long. I can’t imagine having to keep kids on task every day and try to teach them at the same time. Especially when you have some students who can be disruptive. Being a teacher is hard work. Not only that, their work does not end when the end of the day bell rings. Many teachers stay after school to help students, then they need to go home and grade papers and prepare for the next days lessons. If they have children they also have to help their children with their homework too.

Over the years my kids have had some truly amazing teachers. They have also had some teachers that leave you scratching your head asking yourself how in the world did they become a teacher?

Now is the time to thank those wonderful teachers in your child’s life. It’s not easy to teach. It’s a lot of hard word. Most teachers put their heart and soul into teaching, inspiring and motivating students.

Offering your teacher a special “Thank You” gift is always greatly appreciated. It shows the teachers that you appreciate all that they have done for your child. It’s also a great way to recognize them for their hard work, dedication and in some cases patience.

There are plenty of gifts you could give a teacher. Gift certificated and gift cards are always a great choice. Often teachers have to pay for their own classroom supplies. A gift card to a office supply store is one option. Teachers also appreciate flowers, jewelry, photo books and sweet treats.

If you are looking for a budget friendly option that would allow you to thank more than one teacher, how about the gift of chocolate? Most teachers would love to indulge in some tasty chocolates. One brand of chocolates that come to mind couldn’t be more appropriate for the situation – merci chocolates. Merci is the French word for “Thank You”.

Merci chocolates were “born” in 1965 as the first individually wrapped gift giving chocolates in Germany. These days the assortment of European chocolates can be found in over 70 countries around the world, often given as a gift. Merci chocolates arrived in the US not too long ago.

The merci box comes with an assortment of chocolates, 7 varieties in all, with flavors like Cream Truffle & Hazelnut-Almond, Praline-Cream and classic Milk Chocolate. My personal favorites are the merci dark chocolate and coffee & cream.

What I like about these chocolates (aside from the melt-in-your-mouth tasty goodness) is that each box offers a variety of flavors plus each chocolate is individually wrapped so you can toss a chocolate or two into your lunch bag or purse. They are great for enjoying on the go.

Merci chocolates are found in many retail locations including Walmart and CVS. They sell for $5.00 – $7.50 per box, making them a budget friendly gift idea for your child’s favorite teacher, or all of their teachers.

I gave each of my children a box of merci chocolates to give to their favorite teacher. As I mentioned earlier my son chose his Social Studies teacher and my daughter picked her Italian teacher – for starters. We have since went back to Walmart and picked up a couple of more boxes of merci chocolates. I want my kids to get one of them to their bus drivers. I think bus drivers deserve a “Thank You” too. I don’t think they get enough credit for having to drive a bus load of load and rambunctious students to/from school every day.

I wanted my kids to give them the chocolates NOW before the bus schedules get crazy with all the finals and toting students back and forth at various times. Both kids told me they would rather wait until the official last day of school (before finals start) because that is when other students give the bus drivers a little gift. I think my kids are just embarrassed to give them a gift now, before anyone else does.

In addition my kids gave each teacher a pencil that said “Merci” on it and a large eraser.

My son tells me that his Social Studies teacher was very appreciative and said she was going to keep the chocolates in her desk so she could enjoy one every day with lunch. My daughter tells me that her Italian teacher was also appreciative and of course had to make a comment about how the Italian word for “Thank You” is “grazie”. LOL!

If you would like to say “Thank You” to your child’s favorite teacher (or all their teachers!), their bus driver, guidance counselor or anyone else consider gifting them a box of merci chocolates.

Look for merci chocolates at a retail store near you.

For more information about mci chocolate visit www.Storck.us/en/brand/Meric. You can also find them on Twitter and Facebook. Currently they are offering a $1.00 coupon on the merci Facebook page.

So that you can say “Thank You” to that special teacher in your child’s life (or another special person) I have a special “Thank You” gift prize for a lucky reader. The prize package includes;

  • a box of delicious merci chocolate
  • merci branded pencils
  • a durable eraser
