Do you scrapbook? I tried it once. I went out and spent a small fortune on paper, books, embellishments and a zillion other things. I had high hopes of taking precious family photos and turning them into priceless scrapbook albums that could be passed on from generation to generation.
How many scrapbook pages do you think I did? If you answered four then you are 100% correct. FOUR! Just four little pages. Out of the four only one I am happy with. The other three I am not.
Digital scrapbooking has become more and more popular over the past couple of years. It’s a great way to do scrapbooking on your computer without having to find storage place for physical scrapbooking essentials. Everything you need is either online or on your computer.
I was really into digital scrapbooking. I even went so far as try and design my on elements and offer them free online for anyone who wanted them. The site has not been touched in ages and has since expired.
I did a lot better with digital scrapbooking then I did with “real life” scrapbooking. Here are some examples of pages I have done over the past couple of years.
Did you know that you don’t have to be a computer whiz to do digital scrapbooking? As long as you have the right software and some elements you can work with, anyone can create a lovely digital scrapbook page.
Serif has a program called Digital Scrapbook Artist 2, which is the updated version of their popular Digital Scrapbook Artist software. It retails on the Serif website (www.Serif.com) for $49.99. It’s available for both instant download and on CD which you can upload to your computer.
Digital Scrapbook Artist is super easy to use. All you need to do is download or upload the software and you are ready to start creating. It literally took me maybe 3 or 4 minutes to upload the software.
Digital Scrapbook artist comes with hundreds of brushes, backgrounds, tools, elements and more that you can use to create your digital scrapbook pages. You can either start from scratch or use a pre-made template where all you need to do is insert your photos.
I have spent hours playing around with all the features and I can honestly say that I don’t think I have scratched the surface of the Serif Scrapbook Artist 2 program. It has everything you can possibly imagine you would need to create a beautiful scrapbook page from elements to stencils and from paint brushes to pre-made designs.
I think I retain more when I learn things “hands on”. I prefer to play around with each feature to see what I can and cannot do.
Digital Scrapbook Artist 2 is linked up to Daisy Trail (www.DaisyTrail.com) where you can download free scrapbook kits and elements. You can also purchase more kits as well, that way you’ll never get bored with what you have and you’ll always have exactly what you are looking for. Most “kits” on Daisy Trail are around $5 and most contain several papers, elements and more.
You don’t have to feel obligated to purchase any additional kits. I have only been using the freebie things that came with the software and I am more then happy with the large assortment that was included. Unless there is something specific I need I am going to stick with the free stuff. You can also download more freebies from the Daisy Trail site too.
Here are a few pages I made. The one with the kids I was more so just goofing around with the embroidery needle option.I cannot get a straight line of my life depended on it. Ha Ha. It’s a really cool feature because you can “stitch” around a photo or element to give it a more realistic, 3-D appearance.
One of them I made before I figured out how to resize images to fit inside the frames, that is why the image is not fitted properly. I learned as I went along.
You can do a lot more then just create scrapbook pages with this software. It’s also a great tool to help edit your photographs. You can use the program to create pages that can be uploaded on those photo book sites. You can also make invitations, cards and post cards. Personally I haven’t tried these features yet but I have e-mailed a couple of my pages to my Father so he could see them. It’s really easy to e-mail your creations to family and friends. You can also export your creations as a .JPG or .PGN file so that you can “tweak” them some more on other types of software programs that you might already own. I have a few graphics programs that I use for my business. I have already turned a scrap page into a background for something I was working on. I actually make the page have a tile effect. It turned out pretty cool. I wish there was a way to show it here in this post.
The program does require some time to figure out if you opt to do what I did (learn as you go along). There are also plenty of tutorials on the site to help you to learn how to use the program as quickly as possible.
I am having a lot of fun with Serif’s Digital Scrapbook Artist 2. This holiday season I plan on designing our own photo greeting cards to send to family and friends. After I design them in Digital Scrapbook Artist I’ll print them out on cardstock and purchase some loose envelopes. Why spend a fortune on photo cards at the store when you can make them at home for a fraction of the cost using this program.
For more information visit www.Serif.com. There is also a fantastic video on the site that shows you more about the digital scrapbook software. If you have a moment you should really check it out.
Serif has offered to give a lucky reader a copy of this program ($50 value). Thank you Serif!
