I have a sixteen year old daughter. You know what that means – driving! She has yet to go for her driving permit, but she is anxious to do so. She would have gone last week but we found out that it’s $90, which I don’t have at the moment. So she has to wait until I have the money for her permit test. Apparently it doesn’t cost anything if you fail the test, but if you pass it’s $90. Ouch! It’s gone up in price since I got my license almost 30 years ago.
Many of my daughter’s friends are driving now. That makes me VERY nervous. She wants to get in the car with teen friends that can drive, but I worry about her safety. She knows the rules – no getting into cars with other teens without our consent. Some of her friends we might be OK with her driving with. Other friends, no way! We know how “flighty” they are and those are the people we DON’T want our daughter driving with.
Did you know that automobile crashes are the #1 cause of death among teens here North America?
To help educate teens and parents about the dangers of driving and how to be a safe driver, State Farm has created a program called Celebrate My Drive.
Celebrate My Drive wants to encourage families and teens to get involved in their school and communities. They are even giving away fabulous prizes!
Two grand prize winners will have the opportunity to host a concert performed at their school by American Idol alumni Kelly Clarkson. In addition they will also receive a $100,000 grant for their school.
Here is some more information about the campaign.
Teens who commit to safe driving could have the chance to bring Grammy Award winner Kelly Clarkson to their hometown for a free concert this coming school year. As part of the company’s Celebrate My Drive® program, State Farm is teaming up with Clarkson and offering teens across the U.S. and Canada the opportunity to learn more about safe driving, win grant money for their school, and be one of two schools to win a free concert by the Idol.
“I am excited to be a part of the Celebrate My Drive program, and to have the opportunity to positively influence thousands of teens,” said Kelly Clarkson. “This program gives me the platform to engage with my fans in a unique way, and I look forward to working alongside State Farm to make a difference.”
“Music is an influential way to reach teens,” said Kellie Clapper Assistant Vice President of External Relations for State Farm. “We know getting a driver’s license is a major milestone in a person’s life and State Farm and Kelly want to help celebrate with this new generation of teen drivers. As a leader in auto safety, we feel this is a positive way to help educate youth and their parents about teen driver safety.”
The Celebrate My Drive program engages teens who are learning to drive in a supportive and positive way. For more than 30 years, car crashes have been the leading cause of death of teens and the purpose of Celebrate My Drive is to win this public health crisis.
More than 1,300 U.S and Canadian schools have already registered to be part of the celebration. State Farm and Kelly encourage teens whose schools are not yet registered to ask a school administrator to go online by October 17, to sign up and stay involved by making the commitment to safe driving during the seventh annual National Teen Driver Safety Week, October 20-26, 2013.

About Celebrate My Drive:
Celebrate My Drive® is a different approach to a leading public health risk. Car crashes are the number one killer of teens, and a teen’s first year on the road is the most dangerous. Using research as a guide, State Farm is approaching teen driver safety, a winnable public health battle, by engaging teens while they learn to drive in a supportive and positive way. It’s a community celebration of safe driving habits emphasizing the benefits of safe choices as teens celebrate the freedom that comes with getting a drivers’ license. Learn more about the initiative at www.CelebrateMyDrive.com.

I wish I could get everyone to put away the phones while they drive! Quit texting, dialing, playing with music, etc. It’s dangerous and they can’t drive well while doing it. Why do they lie to themselves. I see it every single day. The other day, I saw a man reading a book while he was driving. Not stopped, driving, His head was down into the book. Ridiculous.
