$2,500 Better Homes and Gardens Paint Sweepstakes

I am a very visual person. My husband can testify to that. At times it drives him bonkers because it means he has to hang up a lot of things on the wall or re-paint a room more often than he wants to. :-)

I’ve always been good at art and teachers always commented on my use of color.

I tend to gravitate towards soft, Earthy colors. My home is painted in soft greens, grays and blues. The only room in my home where I HATE the color is the bathroom. We just re-did the bathroom over the summer. We replaced the toilet, sink, vanity and mirror as well as had it painted. It was painted blue (too dark for my taste). My husband wanted something neutral (aka – boring!), in a beige or something similar. He came home with what could only be described as mustard gone bad. It seemed OK on the can. You know, those little spots of paint they put on the outside of the can so you know what the inside color is. There it seemed OK. However once on the wall – EWWW! It was so NOT OK!

We would have had the painter repaint the wall but we were already into them for more money than we anticipated so we kept it.

It’s not as bad during the day but at night time, wow… it’s horrible!

I was thinking maybe having a color accent wall in the bathroom might make the place look a bit better. An accent wall is one wall in a room that is painted a vastly different color than the other three walls. We have something similar in the living room (not by choice). Three walls are painted (light green). The forth wall has wood paneling. I don’t like the paneling at all (neither does my husband) but we figured it was a lot less expensive to star at the paneling than it was to rip it down, sand down the wall, spackle and repaint. We’re also not really sure what lies behind the panel.

For some odd reason the paneling doesn’t even reach the end of the wall. It stops several inches from one wall. The previous owner put up a butt ugly shelving unit to cover up where the paneling is not on the wall.

Seriously, if I could talk to the previous owners that would be my first question to them – WHY?! Why did you put paneling up and why doesn’t it cover the entire wall?

Next up to be re-painted is the kids room. I am considering an accent wall in there too, or an accident color. It’s going to be a light gray but I think it needs a “pop” of color too. HOPEFULLY we can get it painted this Spring. We’ve only been planning on it for over a year now.

Better Homes and Gardens is also having a sweepstakes. The winner gets $2,500 including a personal color consultation from a Better Homes and Gardens Style Director who will physically come to your home too! The winner will also receive Walmart gift cards to purchase the paint and products with for the painters to come and paint for you.

Better Homes and Gardens wants to let everyone know that you can get high quality paint and home décor at Walmart’s low prices to help you with all of your home decorating needs. I can agree with this. Many decorative pieces in our home has come from Walmart, from laps to throw pillows.

To enter the $2,500 Better Homes and Gardens Paint Sweepstakes visit the BHG Live Better Facebook Page (click the bolded text to visit the page).  All you have to do is “like” the page and submit your email address for a chance to win! It’s that easy!

I’m honestly going to enter. My husband is not a fan of painting and the idea of painting the kid’s room doesn’t thrill him much. Since it’s the master bedroom (we only have a one bedroom condo) I think maybe I have the wrong color choice for the room. If we went to sell our condo (in my wildest dreams!) I think the room should have a more professionally painted look to it rather than a boring light gray paint slapped up by my hubby who doesn’t seem to mind much if there are some splatters and drips on the wall and ceiling. :-)

I always value what my readers have to say and I’m very curious to know – if you were to create a accent wall in your home, what color would it be? Are you one someone who enjoys bright, bold red or would you go for the same color as the rest of the room, just several shades darker or lighter?

What are your favorite colors to paint your rooms? Do you seem to stick with the same color family or is each room different?

Celebrate Season 11 of American Idol with Coca-Cola (Great Giveaway)

Can you believe that American Idol has been on for 11 seasons already? My son is going to be 13 in September. That means American Idol has pretty much been on the air almost his entire life. In fact, I was SHOCKED to learn it was season 11. I was thinking it was season 7 or 8.

My family never watched the first season of American Idol, although my husband is a fan of Kelly Clarkson. We didn’t start watching it until the second season.

Here is an interesting American Idol tid bit for you. Season 4 contestant, Constantine Maroulis, has a sister name Anastacia. When Constantine was on American Idol his sister was the principal at my kid’s elementary school.

The elementary school staff, teachers and all the children voted for Constantine. They had t-shirts made up that the kids would wear every week. There were also posters and banners hung up in his honor.

I made buttons for my kids to wear that said “Vote 4 Constantine”. Some of the teachers asked me to make one for them too. I made 100+ buttons (free of charge of course) for the students, teachers and staff to wear.

We were all hoping that he would show up at the school for the kids, but he never did. He did thank them over the phone once. His sister held the phone up to the microphone so it was heard in all the classrooms.

The kids were disappointed that he never came to school to thank them for all their support. Oh well…

One of my most favorite American Idol alumni is Chris Daughtry. I love his music! He’s awesome! I also like Adam Lambert. He’s a bit over the top but I like his music.

As an American Idol sponsor, Coca-Cola is looking to spice up the cold Winter months with their new initiative called Coca-Cola Family Night.

On the My Coke Rewards website (www.MCR.com/Family) you can find exciting contests, instant wins, rewards, recipes and games—with many fun American Idol based activities for your family.

Personally I think that it’s important to have a Family Night one night per week if possible. If not at the very least once a month.

When my family watches American Idol together was act as judges and critique each contestant and come up with our top picks. Sometimes we agree, sometimes we don’t. But that is the fun of it. The judges on TV don’t always agree either.

If you are going to have a Family Night make sure to include some yummy beverages and treats for the family to enjoy too. It can be something as easy and simple as chips and soda, or you can order a pizza or make some appetizers. Everyone loves to have something to nibble on during a Family Night.

Other things you can do on Family Night is have a Family Movie Night or a Family Game Night. Those are two things my family enjoys doing together too.

It’s not so much what you do as it is making memories together that will last a lifetime. Sometimes it’s the simply things in life that mean the most.

To help you get started with your own Fun for Family Night, I have an awesome prize pack to give to a lucky winner. The prize package includes…

-   Samsung handheld camcorder bundle (includes card and case). I have the same camcorder. It’s awesome! It’s really easy to use and has a lot of fun features. It takes both video and photos. It charges on your computer and it’s incredibly simple to upload your photos and videos to your computer. It’s even waterproof and shock proof. Use this to record your Family Night. :-)

Here is a video I did of our kitten Bella using the same camcorder in the prize package. We remove all the stuff from our balcony including the carpeting during the Winter months.

-   American Idol – The Hits Volume 1 CD – featuring songs by Kelly Clarkson (Since You’ve Been Gone), Clay Aiken (Invisible), Chris Daughtry (Home), Adam Lambert (Whataya Want From Me), No Air (Jordon Sparks) and others.

-   A coupon for $$$ off the purchase of Pringles and Coca-Cola.

The prize package is valued around $100.

To enter please tell me how you bring YOUR family together? Do you have a regular Family Night? If not, is it something you plan on doing in the future?

For extra entries you can do any or all of the following. Please leave a separate comment for each that you have done. Extra entries are optional.

Alamo Rent A Car Launches “The Value Project”

I don’t normally share press releases, however every now and then one comes along that I think my readers might have some interest in.

I’m sure plenty of families are gearing up to plan out their summer vacation. I know it seems like summer is far off, but it’s not. By the time you research locations and make reservations it will already be the Spring time.

Alamo Rent A Car just launched an online community that might help planning out your future vacations a lot easier.

Inspired by its sponsorship of Frommers.com’s 100 Places to Take Your Kids, Alamo Rent A Car has launched “The Value Project,” an online community for families planning vacations. The community – found under a new tab on Alamo’s Facebook page – offers families a forum for exchanging ideas and information (including great deals, can’t-miss attractions, insider knowledge and more) about U.S. vacation destinations and travel experiences.

“We’ve created The Value Project as a comprehensive resource to help customers make the very most of their family vacations,” said Susan Madigan, marketing director of Alamo Rent A Car. “This online community enables Alamo customers to be the travel experts, as they connect with other families, share personal experiences and benefit from one another’s suggestions, ideas and tips.”

The Value Project community, which offers family-friendly vacation suggestions from Frommer’s Travel and Alamo employees and customers, will highlight cities from Frommers.com’s 100 Places to Take Your Kids and include content from its 100 best family-friendly attractions in the U.S.

Just launched, Alamo’s sponsorship of the Frommer’s 100 Places to Take Your Kids will continue through July 2012. Throughout the sponsorship, the Frommer’s page will feature Alamo banner ads, design elements and an interactive game. The goal of The Value Project is to both promote the Frommer’s partnership as well as create a destination where people can get real vacation values from the real experts: local Alamo employees and Alamo fans.

The Value Project is just the latest travel innovation from Alamo, which has long been recognized as a technology innovator. The brand was the first in the industry to offer real-time Internet booking capabilities in 1995 and introduced the industry’s first and only online check-in system in 2005. Customers can also check in at more than 171 self-service kiosks at 63 U.S. locations, which earned Alamo the “Extra Mile Award” from Budget Travel magazine in 2007. Alamo customers in the U.S. are able to conveniently choose their own vehicles, based upon their advance reservation and requested car class, and then simply drive away from the airport.

For more information about Alamo, and to learn about exclusive deals and travel tips, visit the Alamo Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/Alamo.

Talenti Talent Search – #Win a year worth of Talenti Gelato!

About a year ago I did a review for Talenti Gelato. From that moment on I have been hooked on their products. I was TRILLED when I found it at my local grocery store. I just wish our local store carried more of their delicious flavors.

You can find my review here, http://www.shescribes.com/2011/08/talenti-gelato-e-sorbetto-delizioso.html.

I know that others are fans of this amazing gelato. That is why I thought some of my readers might be interested in this contest.

Talenti Gelato e Sorbetto has launched the “Talenti Talent Search” video contest. It was inspired by the “Talenti Gelato Makes Music” video.

The contest encourages the online community to submit videos of their talents using Talenti Gelato containers, for a chance to win 52 pints of gelato! That is a whole year’s worth of gelato (one container per week).

If I had any talent I would enter just for the chance to win. I would certainly stock up on the Sea Salt Caramel (my favorite!).

To enter visit www.Facebook.com/Love.Talenti and “like” their page. The instructions for uploading the video should appear for you on their Facebook page. If not click on the “Show up your talent” tab on the left side bar.

For inspiration check out the video below (or here if you are reading this via e-mail, http://youtu.be/E9I5fCdJvkY).

For more information about Talenti visit www.Talenti.com.

Softness Worth Sharing (Gift Card Giveaway)

When the weather starts to get colder there is something I make sure to stock up on – TISSUES! That is because people spend less time outdoors because it’s too cold. All it takes is for one classmate or co-worker to come down with the common cold and it can spread like wildfire among everyone else.

Oddly enough I work from home yet I tend to catch colds more so than the rest of my family. I think that is because they bring the germs home to me. Blah!

To make matters worst my kids suffer from a tree pollen allergy. No sooner does the snow melt that the tress start to flower and the pollen gets everywhere. From the start of Winter until the end of Spring we go through A LOT of tissues.

I make sure to keep tissues everywhere just in case. I even keep tissues in the car. My husband keeps tissues in his laptop bag and at his desk, and I make sure my kid’s backpacks have a steady supply of tissues too.

I can deal with havin a cold but the thing I hate the most is a stuffy or runny nose. I can deal with feeling “blah” and achy. I can even deal with coughs and sneezing. But it’s the stuffiness and running nose that drive me bonkers.

When I purchase tissues I like to go with the soft ones. There is nothing worst than using a harsh tissue on your already sore nose.

Have you had a chance to try Kleenex Cool Touch tissues? They are the only tissue that actively releases a cool sensation to soothe a sore nose on contact. Ahh… that sounds nice. I haven’t had a chance to try them yet but I’m going to look for them the next time I go shopping.

Did you know that you can have a package of Kleenex Cool Touch tissues sent to a friend or family member? Did you know you can send it to them FOR FREE?

Last year Kleenex did a promotion called Softness Worth Sharing. It was a huge success. Over a million people jumped at the opportunity to share a package of Kleenex tissues with a friend or loved one.

The ‘Softness Worth Sharing’ program was designed to make it fun and easy to share the softness with someone special.

Because the campaign was such a huge success, Kleenex is doing it again this year.

To participate and to share a package of Kleenex Cool Touch tissues with someone special, visit www.Kleenex.com and follow the simple directions. This campaign will go on for as long as supplies last.

It gets better! Everyone who sends a Share Pack will also receive a free sample of Kleenex Cool Touch tissues too!

You can even  track the chain of sharing they’ve inspired via an interactive map.

This is such a fun idea. People love getting surprises in the mail. I know what you are thinking – It’s only tissues. True, but it’s still a surprise and it’s much nicer than a letter with the words DUE NOW bolded in red marker. :-) Plus everyone can use tissues. I know I sure can. Feel free to send me a free package. LOL!

If you happen to be in the Long Island area of NY, Kleenex is having as special in-store event at these Stop & Shop locations. Each store event will be held from 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

- February 10, 2012 – 88 Golding Avene, West Babylon
