Kidz Entertainment, Inc. – Children, Animals, Color, Music & FUN!

When I buy gifts for the littlest family members, or my friend’s children, I like to get them things that will provide hours of entertainment. If they are educational that is a “bonus”. I always look for gifts that can entertain a child on multiple levels whenever possible.

Kidz Entertainment, Inc. offers really unique products that are both interactive and educational. Their products also reach children on multiple sensory levels including entertaining their imagination and providing them with factual information. Their “sets” include multiple products with each one entertaining a child in a different way whether its through music, color, reading or play.

My favorite part of the “kit” is the adorable and beautifully made handbag/plush animal/muff. They are so cute! Then even come with pretty necklaces.

Kidz Entertainment, Inc. sent me a few product samples to check out. Oh my goodness! I LOVE the plush animal/handbag/muff critters.

I’m sorry that I didn’t take better pictures of them. They are small purses that can hold a book, crayons, some paper, small toys or a snack. They are SO ADORABLE!

Children can also use these as a muff to keep their hands warm or as a cuddly friend. If your child has no plans on using it as a purse I would recommend cutting off the strap.

Each plush critter comes with a cute necklace.

The kits come with hard cover books which feature fun stories and delightful colorful illustrations. The books are perfect for bedtime or for early readers.

My favorite is the Show Dog book. Not only does it have colorful illustrations of various dog breeds but it also includes a little interesting fact about the breed too.

The Show Dog book even comes with a music CD and sheet music. Show Dog was selected as the best children’s song/novelty class for the Eastern Region and then went on to win the National Award during the 75th Anniversary of the Songwriter’s Guild of America. That is awesome!

I also love the Show Cat coloring book. The drawings are really nice and fun to color. These are NOT your ordinary cats. These are truly special and unique cats. The illustrations lend themselves to promoting creativity too. There are so many different things to color. The book even comes with some crayons too.

The Show Cat coloring book is the perfect companion to the Show Cat hard cover book. Even our kitten Bella found the book interesting. 🙂

Another adorable story book that Kidz Entertainment offers is the Pansie the Piglet picture book – I can’t seem to find my tail. Not only is it a cute story but the illustrations are sweet too.

This sweet books features bright, colorful illustrations that teaches children about helping one another and about friendship.

I can’t seem to find my tail also includes sheet music and music CD on the back cover.

I forgot to mention the fun 49 piece puzzle that features a variety of cute and colorful dogs. The puzzle was not hard to put together. I would think a typical 6-8 year old could do it (maybe with a little parental assistance).

Kidz Entertainment really put a lot of thought into all their sets (as well as individual pieces). I love how they all work so well together.  For example, after reading Show Dog a child could color the same images in the coloring book (with included crayons), enjoy the CD and play with one of the plush dog purse/plush/hand muff. The “kits” could potentially keep a child busy for hours.

Most pieces are also available for individual purchase.

Kidz Entertainment products are geared towards children ages 3-8 years old.

Check out this very helpful infomercial about Kidz Entertainment and their unique line of products, http://www.KidzEntertainmentInc.com/Videos.php.

If you would like to check out the products for yourself please visit www.KidzEntertainmentInc.com. Prices range from $4.95 to $29.95 plus shipping.

I think that any (or all) of the products and kits would make great gifts for both birthdays and holidays. They are perfect for on-the-go and rainy days too.

Mega Bloks = Mega Fun!

The subject line might be rather corny 🙂 – but it’s true! Mega Blok sets can be a lot of fun, not only to put together but also to play with too.

Last month my family received a really cool Blok Squad Police Force Pursuit set. The set gave you enough pieces to build a Police car, van and boat. It also came with accessories like people, a boat hitch, cones and fences. There are over 390+ pieces in this set.

My son wasn’t sure if he’d be able to put it together. He’s tried similar building block sets (other non-Mega Blok sets) but hasn’t had much success in putting them together. Often they require many pieces and there are a lot of steps to follow. Mega Blok was different. The instructions seemed a lot easier to follow. In fact it didn’t take long to put all the pieces together. I think it only took about an hour in total. Other sets we’ve tried have taken several hours to complete.

My son is older than the target age range, but he has some focus and fine motor skills “quirks”, so sometimes even the easiest tasks can seem more difficult for him. That is why my husband had to help him a bit with this. I think other children might not require any adutl assistance. The instructions were very easy to read and seemed very simple to do.

Once they are assembled the Mega Blok pieces are pretty cool, and a decent size too. I was very impressed with the boat. They paid close attention to every detail that you would find on a real Police boat or vehicle.

I meant to take a photo of the Police vehicles and boat assembled but I forgot to. I just went into my son’s room to find them to take pictures of them and I found that he had un-assembled them for some reason. This is all I found.

You’ll have to take my word on it. They are a nice size. 🙂

What I like about Mega Bloks is that they can work with similar block building sets so you can constantly add to them.

Mega Bloks also has the instructions on their site that you can download (PDF file) in case you happen to misplace the directions that come with your set.

The Mega Blok – Blok Squad sets are available in Police, Military, Fire Department and Construction varieties. All the kinds of sets that most boys love to play with (and even “big boys” – aka – ADULTS!).

Mega Bloks are sold at most retail locations across the country that sell toys. You can also learn more about Mega Bloks (and check out the other cool sets they offer) at www.MegaBloks.com. They are also on Twitter (www.Twitter.com/MegaBloks or @MegaBloks) and on Facebook (www.Facebook.com/MegaBloks).

Wuggles – The stuffed pet you bring to life

Have you seen those infomercials on TV for  Wuggles? They are little stuffed pets that you “bring to life” by stuffing them with a special stuffing machine.

The theme song gets stuck in my head everytime I hear the commercial.

Here is the commercial I am referring to. If you are reading this via e-mail you can see the commercial here,  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jpB4KsIp14.

Whenever I saw the commercial I was a bit skeptical about the fluffing machine (for lack of a better description). It’s actually called the Fun Filled Factory, but stuffing machine seems better (more descriptive). From the commercials it just didn’t seem like the fluffing machine would work like it does in the commercial.

I was sent a Wuggle Pets kit to try out and review. Now I could put the fluffing machine to the test.

The Wuggle Pets kit comes with two plush animal “skins” (dog and unicorn), the Fun Filled Factory (aka “fluffing machine”), baggies filled with little paper stars, birth certificates, two bags of stuffing and paper personality “charms”.

To make a Wuggle Pet you first need to open up the Fun Filled Factory (stuffing machine) and put 1/2 of a bag of stuffing inside of it. Next you open up a bag of the stars and sprinkle them on the stuffing in the machine. Top them off with the remaining stuffing.

The next thing you do is take your Wuggle Pet and put the opening on it’s back onto the nozzle for the machine. I had a hard time getting the dog to fit. It turns out the zipper in the back was not down far enough. I took the zipper tool (included) and pulled down the zipper. It then fit on the nozzle OK.

While holding the Wuggle Pet skin in place, slowly crank the machine. You’ll notice the stuffing being “grabbed” by the spiral piece inside and move the stuffing into the pet.

You are suppose to keep turning the dial until all the stuffing come out into the pet skin. I found that some of it became stuck so I had to open the lid and push it down a bit with my hand. Then the spiral piece caught the rest of the stuffing.

After you Wuggle Pet is stuffed you are to carefully remove it from the machine. Both times we did this stuffing came shooting out the back of the pet. What we ended up doing was putting that stuffing aside until we were ready to close up the Wuggle Pet.

Once you remove the Wuggle Pet from the machine you are to move the stuffing that is inside of it around until it’s shaped the way you want it to be. Next you take a personality “charm” and insert it into the back of the Wuggle Pet. This is suppose to give your pet it’s personality.

After we put the personality charm into it’s back we took the stuffing that fell out of it back into the plush skin. We then took our fingers and moved the stuffing around until it was stuffed the way we liked it (my kids were helping me to make these).

Once your pet is the way you like it you take the included zipper tool and zipper up the back of the pet to close it up. There is no sewing required.

The first Wuggle Pet took several minutes to make because we weren’t sure what we were doing. The second Wuggle Pet literally took just a couple of minutes. Once you know what you are doing it’s really easy to do.

Each Wuggle Pet comes with an attached clip so that your child can attach it to a backpack, tote bag or any place else they would like to clip it to. You can also cut the clip off if you want with a pair of scissors.

The Wuggle Pet Starter Kit sells for $19.99. Additional Wuggle Pets can be purchased separelty. I’m not sure of their retail price but I have seen them selling for $5.99 – $14.00 on Amazon and $9.99 on the Toys R Us website.

I don’t think you necessarily need the Fun Filled Factory to make the Wuggle Pets. You could easily stuff them by hand. They are not hard to stuff at all. Even a small child could stuff them by hand. I think the Fun Filled Factory just makes it more exciting for little children.

Overall I think it’s a cute idea. Children love to make their own little plush friends. You can easily add to this experience by having your child do things like kiss the personality charm before putting it in the Wuggle Pet, or make a wish on the bag of Magic Stars before adding them into the stuffing. The possibilities are endless.

A very young child might need help with this. I think a child 5 or 6 and older should be able to do it on their own, but they might need a parent’s help with the first Wuggle Pet they make.

Making Wuggle Pets would be a fun birthday party idea. It’s a party favor that guests can “make and take” with them. I like that idea. If my kids were younger I’d certainly consider it.

For more information about Wuggle Pets visit www.WugglePets.com. You can also find them on Facebook (www.Facebook.com/WugglePets) and Twitter (www.Twitter.com/WugglePets). They also have a blog (www.WugglePetsBlog.com) and a YouTube page (www.YouTube.com/WugglePets).

Great Books for LEGO Fans

Who doesn’t enjoy tinkering around with LEGOS? I used to play with brick blocks similar to LEGOS when I was a young girl. It wasn’t until I had my own children that I had the chance to play with real LEGOS.

I love the fun things you can design with LEGOS. My family way to play with LEGOS is simply create whatever comes to mind.

Did you know that LEGO is an abbreviation for two Danish Words, “leg godt”, which means “play well”?

Here are some other fun LEGO facts.

–  If you built a column of  about 40,000,000,000 LEGO bricks it would reach the moon.

–  There is an average of 62 LEGO bricks for every person on Earth.

–  The LEGO Club has 2.4 million members world wide.

–  Approximately every 7 seconds a LEGO set is sold.

–  If you lay end to end the number of LEGO bricks sold each year it would go around the world 5 times.

Needless to say LEGOS are popular around the world, and there are A LOT of them. Ha Ha.

If you are a fan of the iconic colorful plastic brick blocks, you might be interested in two books that I had the opportunity to read recently.

The LEGOS Idea Book – If you are looking for some inspiration on what to build with all your LEGOS look no further then this book. WOW! Everything and anything you can possibly think of can be built with LEGOS, and this book proved that to me. There are pirate ships, race cars, castles and so much more.

Each section of ideas starts off with a layout of most of the pieces used to create the pieces that will be shown within that chapter. I found that very handy because it gives you an idea of what pieces to look for in your collection so you can try and re-create the LEGO designs found within the pages.

The book also gives you a brief bit of information about the LEGO master builder who created the pieces found within the book. You would think these people would be the ultimate nerds, but they are not. 🙂

Flipping throught the pages of this book only made me realize just how much fun LEGOS can be. It also inspired me to try and create my own pieces. I doubt I will ever be as good as the people are in the book, but it’s fun to try. Even my son tried to create a few pieces he liked in the book (most we didn’t have the right pieces for – he doesn’t have that many LEGOS).

If you are fan of LEGO, or you have a child who enjoys playing with LEGOS, then this is the book for you. People young and old can enjoy it. I don’t think there is a age level (maybe 6+). Younger children might need help trying to create the designs in the book.

Another great LEGO book is also ideal for Star Wars fans. It’s called the LEGO Star Wars Characters Encyclopedia. I LOVE Star Wars. I’m a HUGE Star Wars fan. So I really enjoyed reading through the pages of this book.

This unique encyclopedia gives you in depth details and profiles of all the LEGO Star Wars mini-figurines. The book features over400+ photos and a lot of fun and fascinating facts. I never knew LEGO had so many Star Wars mini-figurines. They had characters I wasn’t even familiar with.

As a Star Wars fan I enjoyed this book. If you are also a LEGO fan I think you’d be even more thrilled about this book. It was fun to read.

The LEGO Star Wars Characters  Encyclopedia also comes with a Han Solo mini-figurine right in the book cover that you can pop out and enjoy. My husband has ours on his desk at work. He’s also a Star Wars fan and he loves LEGOS too.

Both books are available where ever books are sold.

Another great LEGO book to read is the Cult of LEGO. I reviewed that book a while back. You can read that review here, http://www.shescribes.com/2011/10/cult-of-lego.html.

Mugz Ice Cream Makers

I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice cream!

Who doesn’t love ice cream (except those with allergies and who are lactose intolerant :-)). Even though we tend to eat more during the hot summer months, ice cream is readily available year round.

Most kids love ice cream. Mine sure do. We tend to have some in the freezer all the time, although the kids know they cannot eat it every day. I also tend to buy ice creams that are already a serving size like cones, bars or sandwiches. That way I know my kids won’t over do it like they would if they had to scoop out ice cream from a container. Even though they know not to take too much it’s way too tempting for them not to.

Did you ever wonder if kids would crave something, like ice cream, as much if they had to “work” for it? What if kids had to make the ice cream themselves every time they wanted some. Do you think they would want ice cream that often?

I have seen plenty of appliances and gadgets on the market that allow you to make fresh ice cream at home. Most come with a hefty price tag that makes it almost not worthwhile.

There is a less expensive option to make your own ice cream at home. It’s called Mugz Ice Cream Makers. Mugz come with everything you need to make fresh, homemade ice cream, including a tiny spoon and recipe booklet.

Mugz are available in four different characters: Penguin, Dog, Polar Bear and Seal. They are pretty cute too. We have the Penguin.

Using the Mugz to make ice cream is pretty simple. Just add ice and salt to the bottom part of the container. In the top part add milk or cream and anything else you want to flavor your ice cream. Then screw both pieces together and then shake like crazy for around three or four minutes. The result – approximately four tablespoons of ice cream.

I know, most people are saying “Only 4 tablespoons?”. Yes, that is correct.

There are pros and cons to the Mugz Ice Cream Makers.

–  Fresh ice cream anytime you want it.

–  The ability to create your own flavors, or invent new flavors.

–  Easy to use.

–  Easy to clean.

–  Children of all ages can make their own ice cream (younger ones will need parental assistance).

–  A cheaper option then most other homemade ice cream makers.

–  Portion control since you can only make a little bit.

–  It makes only around 4 tablespoons of ice cream, which is a “tease” to ‘tweens through adults.

–  Sometimes you have to shake upwards of 5 minutes or longer (I don’t know why – might be the ingredients).

–  Often the ice cream came out too soft, almost like melted soft serve.

I don’t know if this is a pro or a con but I liked using the Mugz to make slushies rather then ice cream (my kids did too). We use whatever juice we have in the house, even Orange Juice.

Here is a brief video to give you a better idea of how Mugz work.

For younger children (10 and under) this would probably be the perfect. For ‘tweens and teens it’s not as exciting. My teen lost interest in it after a few times (but she uses it to make slush). My ‘tween kept interest in it a bit longer, now he doesn’t use it as much because he says, and I quote, “It’s too much work“. I guess for them they would like to see a bigger “payoff” (more ice cream) for all the shaking they have to do.

On a side note all that shaking is good exercise. 🙂

On a scale of 1-5 I’d give Mugz a 3. It has it’s good points and it’s bad points. I’m on the fence with this one as far as if I really like it or I don’t. I guess you’ll have to decide that for yourself.

Mugz are available online at various retail locations.

Get in shape in 2012 with the Fitbit XBOX 360 Kinect bundle

Now that we’re stuffed ourselves with turkey, ham, tons of holiday cookies, cocktails and other tasty goodies, it’s time to get back on track and think about our health again. The start of a new year usually turns to thoughts of health and nutrition. I bet if you surveyed 1,000 people more then half would be planning on starting an exercise routine and eating healthy in the new year.

If you are someone who is planning on getting healthy in 2012 you might be interested in this information.

On December 27, 2011, Sam’s Club Game Hub is launching a new holiday bundle with XBOX 360 Kinect to help shoppers and their families actually keep their New Year’s fitness resolutions. The Fitbit XBOX 360 Kinect bundle, includes an XBOX 360 Kinect, a FitBit Activity Tracker and “Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012“, the sequel to the #1 fitness game on Kinect.

The FitBit Trackeris like a super advanced pedometer that tracks your real-time activity stats, including: steps, distance, floors climbed, and calories burned. People using the FitBit claim that because they are aware of their daily movements, they walk 43% farther and lose an average of 13 pounds.

The Fitbit Ultra uses a MEMS 3-axis accelerometer that measures your motion patterns to tell you your calories burned, steps taken, distance traveled, and sleep quality. A built-in MEMS altimeter measures your vertical climb up stairs and hills.

The FitBit also gives users valuable information on sleep patterns, helping you figure out better habits. Sleep is an important factor when it comes to weight loss. Studies have found that people who get an adequate amount of sleep each night tend to lose more weight and keep it off compared to those who don’t. I sleep an average of 4-5 hours a night, which could explain why I have a hard time loosing weight and keeping it off.

The “Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012” fitness game is a social and fun workout experience, totally customizable. Your Shape includes over 90 hours of activities to suit you and your family’s taste and fitness goals. It also has a feedback system that guides you on how to improve your technique and results.

Your Shape will take players into a stimulating world showcasing an array of captivating visual effects and an environment that will transform as their workouts evolve in the game. The improved player projection will allow players to see themselves in the Your Shape universe and keep a close eye on their workouts.

With Your Shape you can choose how you want to play. Do you want a personal trainer to help meet your set fitness goals? Or do you want to focus on a specific muscle group? You can also build a program around the time you have to work out.

These technologies are meant to help people stay on top of their 2012 fitness goals from home, easily allowing all family members and friends to be involved. The Fitbit is like a friendly personal trainer that goes where you go!

If you would like to learn more about this bundle please visit www.SamsClub.com/GameHub. There you can also watch a video that explains more about the bundle.

It does sound like an interesting fitness package. Most people can’t afford a gym and often walking or using exercise DVDs can be boring, especially if you do them every day. This special fitness bundle seems like it would be a nice change of pace from a regular routine, and dare I say it sounds fun too.
