The 10th Anniversary Edition of Sweet Home Alabama now available on Blu-ray

I adore Reece Witherspoon. I’ve never seen a movie that she was in that I didn’t like. I love how she can be in a comedic role for one movie, then a serious role for another. She’s very flexible.

One of my favorite Reece Witherspoon movies is Sweet Home Alabama. I was surprised to hear that the movie is celebrating it’s 10th Anniversary. WOW! I didn’t realize the film has been around that long.

In honor of the film’s Anniversary it’s now available on Blu-ray.

Reece Witherspoon stars as Melanie Carmichael. She’s one of New York City’s up and coming fashion superstars. To her friends and family back home in Alabama, Melanie is a local legend, and it has nothing to do with fashion. Melanie was a rebellious teen known for blowing things up and causing mischief. To the people of Pidgeon Creek, Melanie is Melanie Smooter (her real last name), or “Felony Melanie”.

Melanie’s boyfriend, Andrew (Patrick Dempsey), is the son of city’s mayor (Candace Bergen). Andrew knows nothing about Melanie’s past.

Andrew proposes to Melanie. She accepts but she has one “small detail” she needs to take care of first – she needs to get divorced from her first husband Jake (Josh Lucas).

Without telling Andrew that she’s secretly still married to Josh, Melanie heads home to Alabama to get Josh to sign the divorce papers once and for all so that she can marry Andrew.

Melanie has not been to her home town in many years. Now that she considers herself a socialite, she looks down on her friends and family, treating them like they are just a bunch of class-less hillbillies.

Josh still harbors feelings for Melanie, which is why he never signed the divorce papers. He does everything he can to drag things out so that he doesn’t have to sign them.

The longer Melanie is in town the more she comes to realize that you can change your address but you can’t change who you are inside.

When Andrew gets concerned about Melanie taking so long to finish up business back home he decides to pay her a surprise visit.

Will Andrew find out about Josh? Will Josh grant Melanie a divorce? Will Melanie return to New York and marry Andrew? To find out you’ll have to pick up a copy of Sweet Home Alabama, now on Blu-ray, where ever movies are sold.

Here are a few clips from the film.

I love this movie. I have since the first time I saw it. It’s a sweet story about first love, and true love.

Sweet Home Alabama is also funny. The towns people are a bit nutty, but that is what makes them so charming. I could see myself living in Pidgeon Creek (the town Melanie grew up in). I love small towns. 🙂

There are some bonus features worth checking out including eight deleted scenes. A couple of them I think should have been in the film.

There is also an alternate ending with commentary (I prefer the current movie ending).

This is a sweet movie that your whole family can enjoy (although I don’t think young kids would have any interest in it).
