If you have ever me me in person before you would know that I have a lot of hair. Not only is my hair long but it’s also very thick and course. It’s not as thick as it used to be, but it’s still thicker than average hair.
When I was younger I used to always make sure my hair looked perfect before stepping outside my door. I would spend hours on my hair making sure it was “just right”, whether I was going for a curly/wavy look or straight hair (my hair is naturally wavy). Hair spray and hair gel were part of my arsenal. I never left home without them.
Fast forward to when I became a first time mom (and second time mom too for that matter). I’m lucky if I had a chance to eat or have a hot cup of coffee (or a even a hot meal) let alone spend hours doing my hair. Hair spray and hair gel were quickly replaced by rubber bands and hair scrunchies.
My kids are now teenagers but the “brush and go” hair has stuck around. I rarely take the time to do my hair anymore, unless it’s a special occasion. Easily 99% of the time you’ll see me with my hair in a pony tail.
I know it’s very passé but I still use hair scrunchies. I mostly use black or white ones but I do have hot pink, purple and even rainbow colored ones in my bathroom closet. Scrunchies are easy to use and can hold my long, thick hair.
If you wear your hair in pony tails, whether it’s because you are too busy to do your hair, or maybe you like to put it up when you are working out, do you wear your rubber band or scrunchy on your wrist to keep it handy? I do. It’s not exactly the nicest look either.
I know I’m not the only one who wears a scrunchy as a “bracelet” (or rubber band). It’s not for fashion but rather for convenience.
A company name Chilly Jilly came up with an ingenious idea that combines a hair accessory (rubber band) with a piece of jewelry. It’s called the Duelette, because it serves a duel purpose – hair accessory and fashion jewelry.
You can wear Duelette as a bracelet. It stretches because it’s made out of elastic. You can also adjust it by sliding the ends through a bead. Since I have a big wrist I like mine to be as lose as possible.
The Duelette is made with non-fray bands and is available in black or white elastic.
The Duelette also features 14K gold or silver plated beads, or a combination of the two.
You can wear the Duelette with other Duelettes or alone.
I tried to take some photos of the Duelette on my wrist but they didn’t turn out good.
Needless to say the professional pictures are A LOT better. These are certainly much nicer in person than they are in my photo.
As a hair band the Duelette does exactly what it’s meat to do – hold your hair. I was a bit concerned that my hair might get caught in between the beads, but so far that has not happened. They have been comfortable to wear. They also do a good job holding my long, thick, course hair.
The Duelette is only available online at the Chilly Jilly website (www.ChillyJilly.com). You can also check out the brand on Facebook and Twitter.
The Duelette sells for $15.00 each. These would make a nice gift for Mother’s Day, especially if that special lady in your life loves to put her hair up. They are also great for teenagers. My daughter likes to borrow them from me and use them with her own hair. She’s even used both of them at the same time.
Good bye out dated scrunchies… hello Duelette!

These are so cute. My hair is way too short these days but I have 2 teen-aged nieces that would love these. They always have some sort of elastic wrapped around their wrists to put their hair in a pony-tail.
