What is this fascination that people have with the Mafia? Is it their power? The money? The crimes they commit?
Movies such as The Godfather series, Bronx Tale, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, Scarface, The Sorpronos and On the Waterfront have in a way “glorified” certain aspects of the mob lifestyle, mostly their unlimited money and ruthless power. I’m sure some people might look at that way of life as grand and wonderful but on the flip side you also have to look at all the horrible things that happen in order to gain that wealth and power including serious crimes and murder.
I couldn’t imagine growing up in that lifestyle. Sure, being privileged as far as money is concerned would be nice, but at what cost? Do the children of the Mafia top dogs witness the downside of living the mob life?
What if you could get a glimpse into life inside the Mafia’s inner circle? In the book “The Mafia Princess Diaries” you can.
The Mafia Princess Diaries is the story of Angelina Merrezzi. She is the only child of one of the top men in the Mafia, Angelo Merrezzi. Within the mob people make enemies quickly and Angelo has his fair share of enemies who would do anything to get to him. One of his worst enemies is Paglia family.
One day Angelina gets kidnapped by her father’s worst enemies, the Paglia family.
For some odd reason her captors provide Angelina with a notebook in hopes that she might reveal some secretive information about her Father and what he is involved with.
Angelina could have easily written some powerful information that the Paglia family could use against her Father. After all, Angelina is not exactly thrilled with a lot of things her Father is involved in. Even though she lives a life of privilege, she also has seen way too much horrible things in her short life including drugs and murder. Things she can only blame her Father for. At the same times Angelina loves her Father dearly and would never do anything against him.
Instead of writing about the Merrezzi family secrets, Angelina uses the notebooks as her own personal diaries. And trust me, what she writes about is NOTHING like the Disney movie, “The Princess Diaries“. Angelina’s diaries focus on the dark side of being the member of a Mafia family. Let’s just say that it’s all its cracked up to be. Personally I wouldn’t want to be exposed to the things she has seen. Not for all the money in the world. Fancy cars and designer clothing is NOT worth it.
Will Angelina reveal something that the Paglia family will use against her Father? Will she ever escape her captures? You’ll just have to pick up a copy of The Mafia Princess Diaries, written by Dionne Lee Nelson, to find out.
The book is a super quick read (about 80 pages). You could easily read this in one day. I read it in two days, only because I was curious to see what Angelina would write next.
If you are into Mafia movies then you will certainly enjoy this unique perspective from the child of a prestigious Mafia family.
I give The Mafia Princess Diaries two thumbs up.
The Mafia Princess Diaries is available where most books are sold including Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
