The Princess Bride 25th Anniversary Blu-ray Edition

I have a confession to make. Up until now I have never seen The Princess Bride all the way through. In fact it was just a few months ago that I even watched the movie. I saw most of it but I missed the beginning and the end.

Whenever I tell people I’ve never seen The Princess Bride they look at me as if I’m a creature from outer space. 🙂

For as long as I can remember people have been raving about the movie. I’ve always been meaning to see it but never did. Now I can say that I’ve FINALLY seen the film from beginning to end and now I know why people rave about it. It’s only taken me 25 years to see it. LOL!

Normally when I write movie reviews I rely on my own summery of the movie rather then a press release or pre-written synopsis. However I’ll make the exception in this case because I think the synopsis was written brilliantly and I know I could never write it that well myself.

Scale the cliffs of insanity, battle rodents of unusual size, face torture in the pit of despair, and join Princess Buttercup and Westleyon their spell-binding journey to find true love when The Princess Bride 25th Anniversary Blu-ray debuts October 2 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.  A classic fairy tale complete with heroes, villains, trickery, mockery and death-defying miracles,The Princess Bride captured audiences young and old with its brilliant, memorable dialogue, enchanting story line and bewitching characters.

From celebrated director Rob Reiner (The Bucket List) and Oscar®-winning screenwriter William Goldman (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) comes “an enchanting fantasy” (Time) filled with adventure, romance and plenty of “good-hearted fun” (Roger Ebert).  Featuring a spectacular cast that includes Robin Wright (Forrest Gump), Cary Elwes (No Strings Attached), Mandy Patinkin (“Homeland”) and Billy Crystal (Tooth Fairy), this wonderful fairy tale about a Princess named Buttercup and her beloved is “a real dream of a movie” (People).

The Princess Bride 25th AnniversaryBlu-ray is loaded with special features including the all-new featurette “True Love: The Princess Bride Phenomenon” which includes brand new interviews with Reiner, Elwes, Wright, Goldman, Christopher Guest (For Your Consideration), Chris Sarandon (Fright Night) and executive producer Norman Lear.

I loved the movie! It was so sweet and fun to watch. Unlike movies today there was no real violence (except a few sword fights for the most part) plus there was no nudity, bad language or anything that would make a parent think twice about letting their child enjoy the movie.

My family has never seen the movie until now either. My husband heard of it but never saw it. My kids never even heard of the movie. So we all sat down together to watch it.

My husband really enjoyed it, as did my 15 year old daughter. My 13 year old son felt like it was too “girly” (I honestly don’t know why he thinks it is – I don’t consider it “girly”). Oh well, you can’t win them all. Three out of four people in my family really enjoyed the film. Maybe when my son gets a little older and has less “teenage angst” he’ll enjoy the film (Ha Ha).

Like most Blu-ray movies, this film has a lot of bonus features. I actually enjoy the bonus features. Sometimes I enjoy the bonus features more then the movie it’s self (but not in this case).

The bonus features that really stood out to me as “must see” features are the True Love: The Princess Bride Phenomenon, As You Wish: The Story of The Princess Bride, The Princess Bride: The Untold Tales featurette and Fairytales and Folklore featurette. Most of the bonus features were great. These are just the ones that stood out the most to me.

This a really fun movie and I’m sorry that I waited so long to see it.

Look for The Princess Bride 25th Anniversary Blu-ray where ever movies are sold.

On a side note the movie has it’s own Pinterest page – https://pinterest.com/princessbride25. It’s worth checking out, especially the board called “True Love” with current photos of Cary Elwes and Robin Wright Penn. Robin aged beautifully, Cary… well… I think he had some work done that I think takes away from how handsome he was.
