I have to admit, I watched a lot of television when I was younger.
Saturday mornings were always the best. I’d grab my favorite cereal – Freakies (does anyone remember that cereal?) – a bowl and a spoon and race downstairs to the playroom to set myself up for a morning filled with awesome cartoons.
Oh the good old days…
I was also big on watching shows that normally adults would watch more so than children. Shows like The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, F-Troop, Bonanza, Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres. I also enjoyed variety shows like Sonny & Cher and Donny & Marie.
My most favorite variety show, hands down, has to be The Carol Burnett Show. Her show would have me laughing so hard that I would cry.
Some of the jokes were geared more towards grown-ups, but I understood most of them. I especially LOVED IT when the actors would start laughing uncontrollably during the skits. Since the show was done live there was no way to edit them out. Honestly, it’s those unexpected moments where the actors totally lost it that were the most hysterical.
If you were a fan of The Carol Burnett Show you must pick up the newest DVD release – The Carol Burnett Show: The Lost Episodes Ultimate Collection. It’s a must have for any fan of the show.
The Lost Episodes Ultimate Collection features 22 DVDs. That’s right – 22!
The DVDs feature 45 episodes that were hand-picked by Carol Burnett herself to be featured in this extraordinary collection. There is also 20 hours of bonus material. I believe there is over 60+ hours of awesome entertainment to had with this amazing collection.
Many episodes featured in this collection has not been seen in over 40 years – not since they originally aired on television.
I used to watch the show all the time and I have never seen these episodes before. The series started in 1967, and I was born a year later. It wasn’t until I was about 7 or 8 year old (give or take) that I started to watch the shows. Back then I don’t believe they did re-runs. It was great to see episodes I have never seen before.
The Carol Burnett Show always featured celebrity guests including Lucielle Ball, Joan Rivers, Mel Torme, Bing Cosby, Steve Lawrence and Jonathan Winters, to name a few (trust me – there are dozens of other famous people who appeared on the show). Younger readers might not recognize some of those names, but you’ll enjoy the shows they appeared in.
The Carol Burnett Show is a variety show that features skits, singing, dancing and a stand up routine. It doesn’t matter if you are 20 or 200 – this show has something that will not only entertain you but also make you laugh. This is timeless humor. It’s just as funny today as it was back when the show first aired in 1967.
It’s fun to see how fashion and hair styles have changed over the years.
I received this set to review, but it will take me a while to get through all 60+ hours of material. This has been a great “filler” to watch at night instead of repeat after repeat until the new seasons start up again. I’m sure we’ll continue to keep watching it. Even my hard to impress teenagers laughed a few times watching this.
I haven’t even got to the bonus features yet. I have been too busy watching the episodes.
Bonus material includes:
- Seven featurettes, including: “On the Spot: Carol’s Q&A,” “Fabulous Firsts,” “The Making of a Mackie,” “The Golden Age of the Variety Show,” “Messages to Carol” “Expecting the Unexpected” and “The Song and Dance”
- 20+ exclusive new interviews with stars of yesteryear and today, with Alan Alda, Julie Andrews, Tony Bennett, Pat Boone, Steve Carell, Vikki Carr, Carol Channing, Kristin Chenoweth, Tina Fey, Bill Hader, Shirley Jones, Queen Latifah, Gloria Loring, Burt Reynolds, Don Rickles, Lesley Ann Warren and more!
- A backstage tour of CBS Studio 33 where the show was originally taped
- Never-Before-Seen Bloopers & Outtakes
- Rare TV specials: Once Upon a Mattress starring Carol, Ken Berry and Bernadette Peters and Carol +2 featuring Lucille Ball and Zero Mostel
Wow! That is a lot of great material.
The DVDs come in five different “sets” for a total of 22 DVDs. In addition you’ll also receive a special collectible “Guest Book.” The book is about 40 pages long and features a lot of photos, notes from Carol herself, production notes, behind the scenes photos and a special section featuring celebrity autographs. This is a great book. I enjoyed reading through it.
I like that everything fits nicely in a special box. The whole collection could tuck neatly under your bed or in a closet. Or you can added the DVD sets to your current collection and re-purpose the box. It’s up to you.
The Carol Burnett Show: The Lost Episodes Ultimate Collection would make a great gift for the Carol Burnett fan. It’s also a great way to introduce your family to this timeless and ageless comedy/entertainment show.
Look for The Carol Burnett Show: The Lost Episodes Ultimate Collection where ever DVDs are sold.

It seems like it would be a good show to watch as a family. With all the viewing options nowadays, audiences are so targeted. There just aren’t as many shows with whole-family appeal as there were back in the days when three channels had to appeal to everyone.
