Back in the 70’s (yeah, I’m old – LOL) I used to spend hours upon hours playing with plastic Lego-like blocks. I can’t remember what they were called. They came in a tall, round canister. They had clear plastic windows and doors that could open and close included. I would literally spend my entire day creating houses and other structures. I would even go so far as to create furniture for inside the house using the plastic building blocks.
Fast forward to 2011. My son has a box of Legos. If I happen to see them out I will instinctively start to build something. I actually find it very relaxing. It makes me miss those plastic blocks I had as a kid.
My husband loves Legos. We have a Lego store at the mall and every time we walk past it he wants to go in and check out all the amazing sets. He purchased a house set from there a few years ago but that was our only purchase. As you know Legos can be super expensive.
Some people are so into Legos that they spend hours, even days, weeks or months, building elaborate designs and structures.
Even though Legos might seem like a child’s toy, there are plenty of adults who live and breath Legos. It’s as if there was a Cult of Lego enthusiasts.
This is the inspiration for the book by the same name, Cult of Lego.
Cult of Lego is NOT a book that teaches you how to make designs with your Legos. Cult of Lego is more about the people behind those amazing sculptures that often end up on TV or in the news.
This book dives deep into the world of Legos. You get to meet the people behind some of these amazing creations. You will also learn some of the history of Legos as well as information about actual conventions and meetings that people have across the country (and world!) to talk about everything Lego.
I was amazed to see just how seriously people take Legos. I’m talking grown ups from all walks of life. These are not just people with way too much time on their hands. These are people who are truly passionate about Legos.
Cult of Lego has a coffee table book quality to it. I actually had it on my coffee table for a while (now it’s in the bookcase). I found myself reaching for it every now and then to read a few pages and to oogle over the amazing things people have made with Legos.
If you are a Lego enthusiast, or have fond memories of those colorful plastic blocks, then you’ll like the book Cult of Lego.
Cult of Lego is currently available at most book reatil locations.

I was born in the early 80s, and I remember Lego, I used to spend ages playing with my collection, and by the time I stopped playing with it at about 14, I had enough to fill 2 huge plastic bins.
I know what you mean about it relaxing you, I’m now 29 and still whenever I see Lego, I sit and build and just completely chill out.
The book looks good, might just go and get it. 🙂
