During the holiday season many people love to collect the newest addition to the Hess Toy Truck. Every year my son gets the new Hess Truck. It used to be a tradition that my dad (biological grandfather) gave all the grandchildren a Hess Truck for Christmas. My daughter received them for many years until she told her grandfather she really wasn’t into them anymore. My son however has received one every year of his life (he’ll be 14 in the fall). Now that my dad has passed away we’ll just have to continue the tradition of getting him a Hess Truck for Christmas until he tells us he doesn’t want them anymore.
My son has always played with his trucks. He doesn’t see them as collectibles. Now that he’s older he doesn’t play with them but he does take them out of the box and fiddle around with them.
All of his Hess trucks are currently packed away in hopes of moving from our condo some day.
Did you that Hess started selling their Holiday Toy Trucks in 1964? I never knew they have been around that long.
Most people are familiar with the holiday Hess Truck, especially because it’s well advertised on TV. Did you know that they also offer a mini toy truck each year too?
Around this time of year (Memorial Weekend) Hess and Hess Express retail stores off consumers a mini Hess Truck. They are exactly like the larger version, except in mini form.
The 2013 Hess Mini Toy Truck went on sale on May 24 and sells for $7.99 plus tax, while supplies last. They even include Energizer batteries.
This year’s mini truck includes;
- Box trailer with two sleek race cars in matching green and white
- Double decker ramp and a slide out ramp for the race cars
- Working lights, two windows on each side and vertical double doors on the back
Hess sent me this year’s mini truck. I love the tiny race cars.
Even though it’s small, Hess paid a lot of attention to the details.
My son took some photos of the truck for me. I think he did a great job.
My son really likes this truck too. He also likes the small race cars. He also said he wishes he had his other mini trucks so he could display them on his headboard. I think they would look great all lined up (he has several of them).

I don’t know if I’ve seen this brand in the stores before. My son would love to have a truck like this.

Ahhh…Hess I used to always gas up there in NY. There are no Hess stations in Florida. They were always the cheapest for gas. I thought they stopped selling those trucks a couple years back, but maybe it was an accessory they discontinued…a helicopter?
I remember the commercial, singing it now in my head. That is great that he has such a great collection.

I think it is great to carry on this tradition for your dad. The have been around a long time haven’t they…almost as long as me! LOL We don’t have Hess stations here in NC, but I have heard of them and seen many of their collectables. The price is good too!
