Coming to Hulu today (August 27, 2021) is the 20th Century Studios’ Vacation Friends. Vacation Friends is an original Hulu film.
Vacation Friends stars John Cena, Lil Rel Howery, Yvonne Orji, Meredith Hagner, Robert Wisdom, Andrew Bachelor, and Lynn Whitfieldl
Normally I provide my own synopsis of the film, but I don’t want to give it all away. I want you to be surprised when you watch this film. For that reason, I’m providing the official film trailer.
In this raw and raunchy comedy, straight-laced Marcus (Howery) and Emily (Orji) are befriended by wild, thrill-seeking partiers Ron (Cena) and Kyla (Hagner) at a resort in Mexico. Living in the moment, the usually level-headed couple lets loose to enjoy a week of uninhibited fun and debauchery with their new “vacation friends.” Months after their walk on the wild side, Marcus and Emily are horrified when Ron and Kyla show up uninvited at their wedding, creating chaos and proving that what happens on vacation, doesn’t necessarily stay on vacation.
My husband and I had the opportunity to view the film prior to it’s release.
My husband tends to laugh easily at films. I find things funny, but I don’t often laugh out loud. I was laughing out loud at this film.
Things like drugs, alcohol and sex are not typically funny subjects, but this film is done in such a way that it actually is.
It’s true that this film is a bit raunchy. But there is no nudity and just a sexual innuendo in one scene. The “naughty” stuff is mostly the drugs, drinking and foul language.
The interesting thing about this film, is that is seems like the parts where written with the actors in mind. Each character was perfectly casted.
John Cena is quite the comedian. You wouldn’t think by looking at him. You’d think he’d pay rough and tough roles. He might be big and muscular, but he excels at being a comedian.
His wife in the film, Kyla, is played by Yvonne Orji. I honestly am not familiar with any of her other work, but she was excellent in this role and the perfect pairing with Cena. In my opinion, she was the funniest of them all.
Howery and Hagner were also terrific in their roles, especially when they were trying to remain “straight lace.”
The way these two couples meet in the beginning of the film really sets the tone for the rest of the movie.
This is NOT a “family friendly” film, even though it’s a comedy. This film is rated “R.”
This is the type of film you watch more than once. My husband and I plan on watching it again.
20th Century Studios’ Vacation Friends will stream exclusively on Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer Platforms as a Hulu Original in the U.S. and Internationally on Disney+ as a Star Original.
If you are looking for a movie to make you laugh out loud, this is definitely a film worth checking out.
Below is the “red band” trailer for the film. That means it might not be “safe for work,” nor is it a good idea for children to view it.
