My family and I LOVE watching holiday specials during the Christmas season. Cartoons, movies, live action… it doesn’t matter – we love it all.
There are several holiday movies/specials that we watch year after year. It’s become a tradition to watch these programs/movies and we make certain to watch them all, at least once (often numerous times because we can’t get enough of them). Some of our favorites include A Christmas Story, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, A Year Without Santa Clause, Santa Clause is Coming to Town, Frosty the Snowman, Elf, Jingle all the Way, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, The Bear Who Slept Through Christmas, Santa and the Three Bears, Charlie Brown Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street and It’s a Wonderful Life, to name a few.
Over the years we have come across new Christmas specials/movies that we are adding to our “must watch” list. Some of those include Shrek the Halls and Little House on the Prairie: A Merry Ingalls Christmas.
I’m adding a new one to our “must watch” list this year – Albert: A Small Tree with a Big Dream. It’s available today (November 14, 2017) on DVD from Nickelodeon and Paramount Home Media Distribution.
Albert is a tiny Christmas tree that lives in a plant nursery with all of his friends.
Albert LOVES Christmas and dreams of the day when he can become a real Christmas tree, covered in lights and ornaments for all to enjoy.
Albert learns about a competition to find the perfect Christmas tree to be featured as the official Empire City Christmas Tree (it’s a lot like the tree in Rockefeller Center in NYC). Albert knows he’s not a big tree, but he does have A LOT of holiday spirit, so he feels like he can live up to the honor of being the official tree. But in order to be considered he has to make his way to where the judges will be.
Albert and his friends Maisie (a palm tree) and Gene (a weed), he hops on a truck to make his way across the state. Along the way he meets up with a very angry cactus who despises Christmas. After making his even more angry, Bill (the cactus) is determined to ruin Albert’s plans on becoming the Empire City Christmas Tree.
Will Albert make it to the competition in time? Will Bill stop him from reaching his dream – or will something else come in the way? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Albert: A Small Tree with a Big Dream. Look for it where ever movies are sold.
Cute. Cute. Cute!
I wasn’t sure how much I’d like this movie. After just a few minutes into it I fell in love with it. As soon as I was done watching it (I watched it on my computer), I put the movie in the case and handed it to my husband and told him “Add this to our must watch list for Christmas.”
I’m impressed. This short film (44 minutes) has a lot going for it – cute, likeable characters, delightful animation, a story line with heart, action, adventure, humor and more.
This is the type of holiday special both young and old alike can enjoy.
There are two songs in the film, but they are enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this adorable film. On a scale of one to ten I’d give it a 10+ for sure.
