Children can be hungry when they get home from school. Some children eat lunch as early as 10:00 AM, at least they do in the school district I work in. I work in an after school program, and by the time the kids come into my care, they are very hungry. That is why I try and have fresh fruits and vegetables available to them right away. I also serve them a light snack around 4:30.
Sometimes when my husband gets home from work, he’s famished too. The first thing he grabs for is cookies. I wish he wouldn’t do that, but that is his before dinner snack of choice.
I recently had the opportunity to try a new type of snack, one you can feel good about serving to your children after school, or even as a snack anytime, including for yourself. They are called Pop Bitties.
Pop Bitties are made out of whole grains such as sorghum, chia, brown rice and quinoa. They are air popped which means they are not greasy.
Pop Bitties are gluten-free, corn-free, tree-nut free, peanut-free, non-GMO and vegan. That means these snacks are safe for school lunches as well (or school is strictly nut-free).
I was sent some Pop Bitties to try out for myself.
I received each of their four current flavors;
If you like potato chips, you’ll like this “chip.” It’s crunchy like a regular chip, with about the same amount of saltiness. The only difference is that these are a better for you option than a regular potato chip.
I found these to be a wee bit too salty for my preference, buy my husband and kids said they were salted perfectly fine.
Maple & Sea Salt
These are my favorite out of the four flavors. It has a sweetness to it that reminds me a lot like kettle corn.
You can really taste the maple (just a hint of it) and the dash adds to the flavor.
This is the type of chip I could easily eat the entire bag if I wasn’t careful. It’s so good!
This tastes like a regular barbecue flavored chip, but a healthier version (of course!). The barbecue flavor is not too strong, in fact, I think they could have added even more barbecue to the favoring.
I like this Pop Bitties because it has a savory taste to it, which is the opposite of the Maple & Sea Salt sweet flavor.
Sour Cream & Onion
This flavor packs a punch. It’s very flavorful. It tastes just like sour cream and onion should.
This is my family’s favorite flavor.
The Pop Bitties look like “chips” made out of popcorn. They are not made out of popcorn, they just resemble a chip that would be made out of popcorn (if that makes sense).
There are about 4.5 servings per bag. The calorie per serving is only 120 calories, which is great if you are keeping track of your calorie intake. There is also only 4 grams of fat per serving.
These are delicious straight out of the bag. You can also dip them in hummus, yogurt, salsa, ranch and other dips. Just remember that these are better for you snacks, so make sure you don’t pack on the calories with the dip you use.
Pop Bitties has a Sweet Potato & Sea Salt, and a Sweet Potato & Cracked Pepper coming out soon. Those flavors sound amazing too!
Pop Bitties are currently available on Amazon (<– I linked to the page. It is NOT an affiliate link). A four pack (variety) goes for $14.99.
Pop Bitties can also be found at some health food stores. There is a store locator on the brand’s website.
