Have you heard about the young man in New York City who found a roll of 35 mm film in Prospect Park (NYC) and went on a quest to find the film’s owner? His journey took him half way around the world to reunite the film with it’s rightful owner.
I know this doesn’t sound especially exciting but I really like the way this young man went about it. He posted two videos about his quest to find the owner and then what happened when he finally found her. Both his videos went viral.
I love documentaries so that might explain why I have enjoyed this story since the first time I heard about it about a month or so ago.
Here are both videos. The first one is how he found the film and what the film revealed and the second video documents his trip to Europe and meeting the film’s owner. Both videos are only a couple of minutes long but well worth watching.
I admire this young man for embarking on this quest. Its funny how a simple thing like finding a lost roll of film can change some one’s life forever.
I’m curious to see if someone returns the roll of film he left behind. Or will it just end up in a landfill somewhere with the rest of the garbage?
I like the story about the elderly lady who handed him the $26 she found. I wonder if he used it for his trip to Europe?
This reminds me of that book “club” (for lack of a better description) where you leave books that you finished reading and enjoyed in random locations with a note (sticker) inside telling the person who finds the book to enjoy it and when they are done to please pass the book along.
The site is called Book Crossing (www.BookCrossing.com). They even have a way for you to track the books that you “release” to see where they end up. Its a lot like a modern take of the “message in a bottle” idea. I think that is pretty cool.
Have you ever found something interesting and wondered where it came from and who it belonged to? I have a mug in my bedroom closet filled with interesting trinkets I have found over the years. Mysterious objects that seemed so out of place. For example I found a quarter that was broken (?) in half. It’s missing the back side. You can see what inside a quarter looks like. I just happened across it one day and have always wondered how it ended up that way.
I have a couple of rocks I’ve found over the years, including one on a deserted beach on the coast of Wales, that have unusual holes on them. They do not look like they were created by nature. They look man made, as if someone drilled something into them.
Even though I’m an adult I still come across interesting random things that pique my curiosity. I’m very inquisitive. I’m always wondering about things.
How about YOU? What interesting random thing have you discovered that you have always been curious about?

*I was not asked to write about Book Crossing. I mentioned it because I think it’s a cool idea and fit in well with this story.
