Now available on all viewing platforms (Blu-ray, DVD, Ultra 4K and digital) is the sequel to the hit film, Aquaman, entitled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. It is sometimes referred to as Aquaman 2.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom brings back the cast from the original film including Jason Mamoa, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Morrison, and Amber Herd.
The film picks up a couple of years after the original film. Aquaman/Arthur has settled into his role of both the King of Atlantis as well as his human life above the water. He’s now married to Mera and they have a son named Arthur Jr. All seems right in the world.
Unbeknown to Aquaman, Black Manta is still seething from being defeated by Aquaman, and still needing to avenge his father’s death. He sets out to harness the power of they the Black Trident. Having it’s power would give Black Manta the ability to rule the world and defeat Aquaman once and for all.
With the help of his imprisoned brother, Orm, Aquaman and his family set out to stop Black Manta from destroying the planet as we know it.
Will they succeed before it’s too late? To find out, check out Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Look for it where ever you rent/purchase/stream movies.
I am a huge fan of the first film in the movie franchise. I think casting Jason Mamoa was the perfect choice for the character. I’m still on the fence about the casting of Nicole Kidman, but that’s for another day.
I have friends who have seen this film and think it was horrible. I also have friends who saw the film and loved it. As for me, I enjoyed the film. I think there was a bit too much going on at times, but overall I liked the storyline and seeing the main characters return to fight another battle.
The plot is good. I knew Black Manta wouldn’t give up that easily on destroying Aquaman. Finding the legendary Black Trident and yielding it’s powers to bring upon destruction on our planet made perfect sense in this film. Black Manta is not one to go down too easily, and that is evident by this film.
The special effects in this film were really good. I think that was one of things I was looking forward to the most in this film. I enjoyed the special effects and CGI in the first film, so knew the sequel would be equally as amazing. As far as the special effects and CGI are concerned in this film, they are really impressive.
I found that there was a little too much corny banter between the characters, especially between Aquaman/Arthur and Orm. It was a bit too cheesy at times. I guess the levity was a nice change in between the action sequences.
This film is on the long side, clocking in at two hours and twenty three minutes. My husband is not a fan of long movies, so he “check out” about the mid-way point. That is fine. He still looked up from his phone from time to time to see what was going on, especially with the battle scenes.
I received a Blu-ray version of the film to review. There is plenty of bonus content to check out. To date I have not watched it, but the next time I pop in the movie, I’ll be sure to check them out.
