Are you into essential oils?

I know a lot of people will gasp when I say this but I am NOT a fan of Summer. Sure, I enjoy a vacation (not that we really go anywhere) and having time off from work. Who doesn’t? What I don’t like is the heat and humidity. Blah! I am also not a fan of sun. I’m a mixture of Irish, Welsh, Norwegian and Scottish. None of those nationalities are known for their glowing tans. They are all pale skinned people. I get sunburn just THINKING about the sun (ha ha).

My favorite season is Autumn. I love everything about it – the cooler temperatures, the colorful leaves, the start to the holiday season (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas…). It’s my favorite time of year.

I am big into scents. When Autumn kicks in I automatically break out my fall scented products – oils, plugins, candles… I love nothing more than my home smelling amazing. Even as I write his I am anxious to bring out my fall scented products. I can’t wait!

I tend to go more towards oils. I feel like they smell better (not artificial) and they last longer. Just a few drops seem to last a long time where as a candle burns down quickly.

I know a lot of people who are into essential oils, not just the holiday/seasonal scented ones. I’m referring to scents like Lavender, Tea Tree and Orange.

The use of essential oils is not new. People have been using them in a variety of way for what seems like forever.

Essentials oils not only make your home smell amazing, but they can also effect your mood. Take for example Lavender. There is a reason why there are so many Lavender scented sleep products on the market. Lavender is a very relaxing scent. Its soothing and calms you, which is how you want to feel when you are about to go to sleep.

Other essential oils have the opposite effect. Take for example Orange. The orange/citrus scent has an energizing quality to it. It perks you up and helps to give you a boost of energy.

I have been dabbling with essential orders for some time now. I have yet to use them medicinally (ingesting them – that scares me), but I do use them to scent my home as well as in cleaning products.

I have purchased numerous essential oils over the past few years. Some are truly amazing, and others are horrible. I have purchased essential oils that smell totally artificial. How can that be if its a REAL essential oil?

I have also tried to heat oils a few ways. I used to have a burner where I’d put a few drops of an essential oil (or a mix of oils) on a glass dish that gets heated up (either by a light bulb or candle – depending on the unit). The only problem with that is that the oil burns off quickly and cleaning off the glass dish was messy.

I received to review an aromatherapy diffuser and some essential oils from a company called Wasserstein. Wasserstein is a leading manufacturer and seller of consumer electronics, home & kitchen products, smart home accessories and other gadgets. They manufacture all the products they sell themselves, cutting out the “middle man.” Because they are THEIR products they take great pride in offering only quality products to consumers.

The aromatherapy diffuser I received to review is the Dark Wood Grain humidifier which has a cool, modern look to it so it goes well with just about any home decor.

Instead of burning oils (and all that mess involved with clean up), you use a few drops of your favorite essential oils in water and the stream generated from the diffuser releases the scent into the air.

To use simply fill the diffuser base with water up to the fill line, drop in a few drop of essential oil, put on the lid, plug it in and enjoy. When you are finished simply dump out any remaining water and wipe clean with a paper towel.

Just add water to the fill line and a few drops of your favorite essential oil/oils.

The diffuser has a timer on it (which I love) as well as a color changing feature. A ring around the diffuser cycles through several colors (blue, purple, green, white…). It also changes the color where the steam comes out. It’s a fun feature but I’m OK with it just staying a single color.

In addition to the diffuser, Wasserstein also offers essential oils. They have a gift set available with six popular essential oils and a diffuser. They also have a larger set of essential oils, which is what I received to review.

The set I received the Top 14 Aromatherapy 100% Therapeutic Grade Essential Oil Set to review. The set includes the following essential oils;

  • Orange
  • Lavender
  • Eucalyptus
  • Peppermint
  • Spearmint
  • Cinnamon
  • Frankincense
  • Grapefruit
  • Clary Sage
  • Rosemary
  • Lemongrass
  • Bergamot
  • Tea Tree
  • Jasmine

There is also a Top 8 Aromatherapy 100% Therapeutic Grade Essential Oil Set available.

There is a great variety in this set. Some I have heard of before (and smelled), others I have not.

I like that Wasserstein took the time to wrap each one in plastic. This helps to prevent them from opening up during transit. I have had essential oils come open during transit and leak out all over the packaging. Wasserstein took an extra step to make sure that didn’t happen with their oils.

I do have some favorites in this collection that I tend to use more so than others – Jasmine, Peppermint, Orange, Lavender and Clary Sage. I like all the scents, but I find that these are the ones I tend to go to more often.

I use the diffuser most of the time, but I have added some drops of the essential oil to make household cleaning products. For example, I mix a few drop of essential oil to a small box of baking soda (Arm & Hammer usually, but sometimes generic too), then sprinkle it on the carpet for a few minutes, then vacuum it up. It helps make the room smell really good and it’s better for you (and your pets) then the kind of powered carpet cleaners you buy in the store.

I love that they arrived wrapped in plastic to help prevent them from leaking during transit.

I also use essential oils with other home made cleaners. I even put a few drops down the drain to keep it smelling fresh and clean.

I like the Wasserstein essential oils because they smell fresh and true to their scent. They don’t have a chemical or artificial smell to them.

If you are interested in learning more about Wasserstein products visit Wasserstein-Home.com. They sell a variety of home and technology products. Wasserstein products are available on Amazon.com.

Are YOU into essential oils? Do you have any favorites? What do you use them for? Feel free to share your thought. I always love to hear from readers.
