I have a confession to make… I’m a “crazy cat lady.” I have just a “few” cats… eight actually. That counts as a “few,” right? Ha Ha.
Our cats range in age from four months to 7+ years. We have five girls and three boys. We don’t have a preference as far as gender. It just worked out that way.
As you can imagine, feeding time is like a stampede. Our cats come charging from all corners of our home to eat. We feed them a few times a day, plus they always have dry food available 24/7.
You cannot tell that we have that many cats, based on the smell. You would think with that many cats our home would smell like cats. It doesn’t. We’ve had friends, neighbors and even real estate agents tell us that aside from the cat accessories, you would never know we had cats. That is because we clean out the litter boxes several times per day and keep their bedding clean.
When you do enter our home, you will know we have cat right away based on the amount of toys that are everywhere. Sometimes I feel like I’m walking through a daycare, being careful not to step on toys.
Our cats are very playful, and we like to provide them with a lot of fun things to keep them engaged and happy.
Just like with most cats, our cats also love the occasional treat. Just like when its feeing time, the moment they hear the crinkle of a treat bag, they will fly across the room to be the first to get their special goodie.
There is a new collection of delicious treats that recently launched on Chewy.com. The interesting thing about these treats are that they are “interactive.”
The new treats are by the brand Meowee!.
Meowee! treats are uniquely designed to bring out the playful side of cats with yummy flavors and interactive shapes, meaning more bonding time for felines and their pet parents.
Formulated by veterinarians, Meowee! treats contain no artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, or animal by-products. The trio of new cat treats includes, Meowee! Savory Spoonables, Meowee! Starry Spinners and Meowee! Triple Flavor Kabobs. They make treat time more fun for felines and pet owners with a variety of textures and yummy flavors.
Meowee! was kind enough to send me… or shall I say my cats… some treats to try out and review. I received all three varieties.
Let’s start with the Meowee! Starry Spinners.
The Starry Spinners are large, hard, star shaped treats. I was actually surprised at how big these were (trust me, my cats are happy about that). The body of the stars are “bulbous”, so they don’t like flat on the ground. Instead they are raised up a bit, so when your cat goes to eat it, it will spin around. This is especially true when they bat it around with their paws.
I’ll be honest, I think my cats (especially the kittens) saw these more like toys than actual treats. I think they enjoyed “playing with their food” more so than the act of eating it.
Meowee! Triple Flavor Kabobs look just like real kabobs. There is a skinny, meaty piece with thicker/larger meaty pieces inserted on to the skinnier piece. These smell meaty too. They remind me of beef jerky in the way that they smell.
I didn’t trust our kittens with these. I was afraid they wouldn’t chew will enough and get a piece stuck in their throats. I gave these to our older cats (although the kittens did try to get one to eat/play with). As it was with the stars, my older cats had more fun engaging with this treat than they did eating it. It does take them a while to eat the treat too. It’s like the more they play with it, the softer the treat gets, making it easier to remove from the “stem.” Hopefully that makes sense?
The Meowee! Savory Spoonables are always a huge hit with all my cats, including the kittens. I’ve even had to use a similar brand’s product when our kitten was very sick and unable to eat regular food (the vet recommend we feed it to him – it is NOT a meal replacement by any means). The difference is that the Meowee! brand has a literal spoon at the end. Instead of clipping off the end of the package and squeezing it out and having the cat lick from the end, this product has a spoon shape at the end where the creamy treat squeezes into. This is not only a great idea, but it makes it so much easier for cats and kittens to lick and enjoy. This is one of those “why didn’t anyone think of it sooner” ideas. Genius!
Overall my cats (and kittens) enjoyed the treats. The only negatives I have is that that sometimes the stars would end up being swatted under the fridge and stove, so you do need to make sure you watch your cat/kitten to make sure the treat doesn’t get swatted someplace you won’t notice. That last thing you want is ants to find the treats.
I also think the kabobs are a bit hard for cats to enjoy UNTIL they lick it enough to soften the meat. I would like to see these a bit softer and easier to bite pieces off. But that’s just me.
I have no issues with the spoonables. They are great.
My cats enjoy all the Meowee! treats.
