Available TODAY – Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

I’m a fan of the Disney franchise Pirates of the Caribbean. The first film will always be my favorite out of the series.

The latest installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, is available today on blu-ray, DVD, 4K and of course, digital download.

Johnny Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow. After all, NO ONE can play Captain Jack like Depp. He was born to play this role. Keira Knightly, Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush also reprise their roles as Elizabeth, Will and Captain Barbossa, respectability.

Joining the cast in this film are Javier Bardem, Brenton Thwaites and Kava Scodelario.

It’s been years since we last left the characters of the original films. Will and Elizabeth now have a son named Henry. Henry believes he has found a way to end their curse by finding the mythical Trident of Poseidon. However, to accomplish this they would need to recruit Captain Jack Sparrow. Will dismiss his son’s silly idea.

More year pass and now young Henry is a solider in the Royal Navy. While out sailing the seas, Henry and the rest of his naval crew cross paths with Captain Salazar. Captain Salazar wants Captain Jack, and allows Henry to live in order to let Jack know that he’s after him.

Meanwhile Captain Jack is still alive and well and up to mischief as usual. He crosses paths with a young lady named Carina who had just escaped a death sentence for witch craft.

Carina learns about Henry and his quest for the Trident and offers to help him. She has a diary from her unknown father that might be able to help him.

Captain Salazar, in his quest to find Captain Jack, destroys Captain Barbossa’s fleet and recruits him to help track down and capture Captain Jack.

It seems like every one is after Captain Jack. Time is of the essence. He needs to find the Trident before it’s too late. To do that he’ll have to cross the sea, battle sharks and make their way down to the ocean floor.

Will they succeed? Will Captain Jack FINALLY be caught? To find out you need to pick up (or download) a copy of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Look for him where ever movie are sold.

Here is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.

First and foremost the special effects in this film are really cool. The franchise has always had fun special effects, but they are especially interesting in this film.

I loved seeing Bloom and Knightly reprise their roles. I honestly never thought I’d ever see them in another Pirates film.

Depp is always a delight to watch in his role of Captain Jack Sparrow. Frankly, it’s his character that keeps me coming back to watch more Pirate films. His character adds so much humor to these films.

As for this film, I think the film makers are just trying too hard to hold on to the success of the original Pirates of the Caribbean film. Don’t get me wrong, this film is entertaining, but it also feels “forced” (if you know what I mean?). There is a story line, but most of the film is about Captain Jack escaping from situations – as is typical for Pirates of the Caribbean film. Instead of taking a minute or two for Jack to escape being beheaded, the scene runs on for several minutes.

The film did end in such a way to elude that there could possibly be yet another sequel. To date I have not heard about a sixth film in the franchise, but I guess the ending leaves that door opened.

If you are a fan of the franchise you’ll enjoy this fun film. It won’t win any awards, but it’s still entertaining.
