The weather outside is getting “frightful,” meaning cold, windy and we’ve even seen a few snowflakes in the past week. Nothing major, but I can’t help but worry about the upcoming winter months. Will we have a lot of snow? Any blizzards? What about ice storms?
No one likes driving in the snow, especially during a blizzard. I panic when I see a snowflake when I’m driving.
A few years back we had a very bad ice storm. My husband worked over an hour away and couldn’t get home, so he had to spend the night at a nearby hotel. He didn’t have a change of clothes, toothbrush or anything else he needed.
Our poor daughter got stuck on the road for hours along side many other people. She was freezing. She didn’t have anything to eat or drink either. She had to resort to calling an ex-boyfriend’s uncle to come get her because he had a truck with four wheel drive.
Thankfully our son was home with me.
After that ice storm I made sure our family was prepared for such emergencies. That Christmas I get by husband a duffle bag filled with extra clothes, hygiene products and non-perishable snacks and water. I also included some puzzle books to keep him busy as well as an electronic game. As for my kids, I bough large storage boxes and filled them with blankets, a hat, a scarf, extra socks and extra gloves as well as non-perishable snacks and water. I also included an emergency kit. All of them kept their emergency supplies in the trunk of their car.
You never know when an emergency will arise. You can be traveling, at work or even at home. It can be an ice storm, flood, blackout, natural disaster or just loosing electricity for a few hours. Sheesh. Don’t even remind me about power outages. We went several days during Hurricane Floyd and there was another occasion we had no power for two days.

It’s important to be prepared. You should always have emergencies supplies readily available including a first aid kit, extra medication, pet food and supplies (don’t forget them), cash (incase ATMs are not an option), extra clothes and of course food. You can also keep a stock of non-perishables or you and purchase MRE’s (Meals, Ready to Eat as referred to by the military).
There is something that most people want/need in the event of an emergency, but it’s not really thought of as being non-perishable and that’s milk. Milk, for the most part, needs to be kept refrigerated. There is dry milk but not many people are too keen on the flavor. Personally I think it tastes chalky.
Are you familiar with the brand Parmalat® Milk? Parmalat Milk is ready-to-drink and enjoy milk, anytime, anywhere. No refrigeration or mixing needed. Not only that, Parmalat Milk has a long shelf life, making it idea to keep on hand just in case.
Parmalat®, a leading dairy supplier with over 60 years of expertise, has revolutionized milk longevity by creating shelf-stable UHT milk through a unique ultra-high temperature pasteurization process. This process eliminates the need for refrigeration until the milk is opened, while preserving its fresh taste and nutritional value. Parmalat Milk, distributed by Lactalis American Group, provides the same taste and nutrients as fresh milk, thanks to its innovative protective Tetra Pak packaging and UHT process.
Parmalat was kind enough to send me some Parmalat Milk and other branded goodies to try out for myself – all of which are handy in case of an emergency.

I received a container of both the brand’s whole and 2% reduced fat milk, portable charger, flashlight, stickers, an air tag and some mints. Both my husband and son were disappointed to find out the mints didn’t taste like milk (ha ha).
Some might wonder why you would need milk in case of an emergency. Have you ever been to the grocery store right before a big storm is expected? People race to to the store for milk, bread and eggs. I always joked that everyone was going to eat French Toast during the snowstorm. Why else would you need all three ingredients (ha ha).
If you have children who drink milk, of course you’ll want to ensure that you always have milk on hand.

If you are unable to cook and need to resort to eating cereal you’ll need milk for that as well.
Have you ever tried to make a recipe and run out of milk? What about running out of milk for your morning coffee. Some people would consider that the biggest emergency of them all (just kidding).

Parmalat Milk is not only handy in case of emergencies or in caser you simply run out and can’t get to the store. It’s also great to take with you when you go camping.
Some might wonder how Parmalat Milk tastes. I was thinking it might not taste like milk, but I wanted to try for myself.
You can drink this straight from the box (refrigerate once opened), but the idea of drinking room temperature milk didn’t sit well with me. For the sake of the review I did give it a try at room temperature (just opened box). Surprisingly, it tasted exactly like milk. And why wouldn’t it? It’s not made from anything different, it’s just processed differently (at a higher temperature) to kill off all the bad stuff that makes milk spoil quickly.
I did put the rest in the fridge and tried it again later in the day after it chilled a bit. I’ll be honest, if you poured a glass of Parmalat Milk and a glass of the milk my family normally uses and asked me to do a taste test I probably couldn’t tell you which was which. They taste exactly alike.
Now that I know more about Parmalat Milk, I am going to pick up a few more containers to keep in the pantry for our next emergency (or if I simply run out of it for my coffee – I “NEED” my morning coffee! Ha Ha).
Parmalat Milk is available in whole milk, 2% milk, 1% milk, fat free milk and lactose free milk.
