If you were to ask me what my favorite season was when I was younger I’d tell you summer. Most kids love summer. It means no school, hanging out with friends every day, days spent by the pool, ocean or lake and of course family vacations. I once thought that way too, that is until I got older. Now if you were ask me my most favorite season I’ll tell you it’s autumn. Summer is actually my LEAST favorite season. While I do appreciate being off all summer (I work in a school), I cannot stand the heat, humidity and astronomical electric bills to keep our home cool. I especially can’t sleep if it’s too hot. I will go in for a quick shower with cold water just to cool down for a bit.
We try not to use the air conditioning unless we utterly have to. We try and keep our electric bill down, especially over the summer when I’m not pulling in an income. To help us beat the heat we turn to fans.
Over the past 30 years we’ve had all different kinds of fans. Big ones, little ones, tall ones, round ones… you name it. Some were not worth the money we paid for them, others seemed to suit our needs very well.
I personally prefer oscillating tower fans. A standard round fan blows air in a localized circle, meaning it might hit your face but leave your feet warm. A tower fan’s tall rectangular vent distributes air evenly from the floor up to a few feet high. When it oscillates, it covers a wide, sweeping area too. Tower fans also have a sleeker design, making them ideal for small spaces. If you are a parent (or pet parent), tower fans are also safer to use when it comes to curious little hands or paws.
We’ve had a few tower fans over the years. It’s been hit or miss with them.
Recently, I was sent a new tower fan to review. I received the Antarctic Star T36 Tower Fan

Ignore the cats in the image. It’s hard to take a photo without a cat being visible sometimes.
Here is a breakdown of the fans specs.
Antarctic Star T36/T42 is ideal for families and light sleepers, the Antarctic Star focuses on “Ambient Intelligence. A built-in temperature sensor automatically scales the 1,470 RPM motor based on the room’s heat—cooling down instantly when needed and softening when the room reaches the target temp.
First and foremost I love the sleep design and look of this fan. It has a modern design and the controls are readily accessible. When the fan is on, the display will go black until you press the buttons again (or use the remote). It might be a small feature, but it’s a great one. You don’t have to worry about any unnecessarily lights keeping you up at night.
The fan is available in a variety of colors, which you don’t normally see with tower fans. Usually they are only available in black or white. The Antarctic Star T36 Tower Fan is available in black, white, grey and pink. I love the pink one. That is great for a girl’s room or an apartment with all girl roomies.

This 36″ fan has great output. You can feel it right away. The air is pushes out is cool right away, it’s not just blowing hot/warm air around the room. I have had fans like that in the past (there is nothing refreshing about hot air blasting at you).
There are different speeds to suit your needs and preferences. There are six speeds and four modes. You can opt for a steady flow of air, like most tower fans. With this fan you also get the option of a more natural breeze, overnight comfort and even the ability to adapt the speed depending on the room temperature.
Even with all the different speeds and modes, this fan is remarkably quiet. I barely even notice it’s on. That is great when trying to sleep at night, or if you don’t want the sound to interfere with conversations or watching television. I personally have only one small issue with the quietness of this fan – I sometimes forget it’s on and leave the house without turning it off. I don’t like to keep things like that on when no one is home, just in case a cat knocks it over or blocks it in any way. Since I can barely hear it I forgot about it, so I have to make sure that I always set the timer on the fan just to be on the safe side. Just this morning I set the fan for 5 hours because I know I have to leave for a vet appointment later on today.
I should mention that our adult son, who happens to have two tower fans AND a round table top fan, in his room told us that if we didn’t want this fan he’ll take it. He has one of our older ones and a very cheap one he bought last year. Neither of them compare to the output in the Antarctic Star T36 Tower Fan.
For convenience this fan comes with a remote control. It’s a handy thing to have, especially when you are too lazy or tired at the end of the day to get up and turn it on.

There is a carrying handle to help you easily move this from room to room. It’s not heavy either. It weighs as much as most of our cats, so I’m going to guesstimate about 7-9 pounds. Speaking of cats, this is also pet safe (and little finger safe).
A big issue with have with fans is that some of them you cannot easily clean. With the amount of dust, dander and who knows what else the fans suck inside of them, you want to ensure that the output is clean. Not only that, you don’t want the system to get “clogged up,” because it won’t work as efficiently.
This fan has a removeable rear grill. It snaps on/off easily (no tools required). I’m no expert, but I’d think every few weeks if you use it constantly and have pets. At least once a season (or every few months).
This fan is also a great budget friendly option. The MSRP is around $70, but you can find this for often find it for less (Amazon currently has it at about $60).
The brand, Antarctic Star, carries other products including ice makers, air conditioners, refrigerators and more. You can check out the brand’s website at Antarctic-Star.com. You can find their products at many retail locations too.
Are you in need of a fan this summer? Beat the heat and get an Antarctic Star for your home today.
