Anyone who knows me knows how much I LOVE anything scented, most especially products for around our home. Candles, sprays, wax melts, oils, plugins, reed diffusers… you name it.
I am a firm believer that scents can really affect your mood. Some scents can make you feel more relaxed, where as other scents can give you a energy.
We have six cats. We pride ourselves on keeping our home clean (we’ve been told numerous times it doesn’t smell like we have cats at all), but just to make sure, if I know we are having company over, I will use something to scent our home to make it smell more inviting.
I have reviewed a lot of scented products over the years, and I would never turn down the opportunity to do such a review.
I was recently offered the opportunity to review candles from the brand Wicked Obscura Apothecary, and I am so glad I did. They are absolutely beautiful candles – not only the way they smell, but also how they look.
Wicked Obscura sells hand-poured soy candles made with American-grown coconut soy wax and scented with natural essential oils. They are safe from synthetics and burn cleanly. They are also made with wood wicks, which are my favorite wicks because they make that crackling sound that wood makes when it’s on fire. I also like the look of wood wicks too.
These beautiful candles are adorned with crystals, dried herbs and flowers.
Wicked Obscura scents are unique too. The brand creates about 95% of their own original scent blends.
Each affordable candle is filled with love and good intent.
The brand was kind enough to send me several of their amazing candles to try out for myself.
The largest candle I received to review is called “Death” and it’s from their Tarot Collection.
Before you start thinking this is a very morbid candle, it’s not. In fact, it’s not only beautiful, but smells incredible. I specifically requested this one because I am a fan of the horror movie genre, and I collect horrible memorabilia. I thought adding a candle labeled “Death” would be a cool addition.
The scent of this candle is Sandlewood, Driftwood and Juniper Berry. It’s a lovely earthy-scent. My husband appreciated the fact that it didn’t smell like flowers or fruity (he’s not a fan of food scented anything).
This candle is suppose to help with change, transition and letting go. It’s interesting that “letting go” is part of it’s purpose, as I am having a difficult letting go of someone very special who passed away. I can’t say that this candle has made me forget that special person, but it’s comforting to think that.
I find this candle scent very relaxing. It has a decent “throw” to it too. I burn candles in the kitchen (away from the cats) and I can smell it in other rooms. I have to be in the kitchen to hear the cracking of the wood wick, but that is fine with me (safety first).
Just look at how pretty it looks with the dried flowers and actual crystals scattered on top. It was too pretty to burn! I did for the sake of the review, but I didn’t want to mess up how pretty it looks.
In addition, I also received the following candles to try out. These were in a tin, not a glass jar like the “Death” candle.
Make note of just how charming the top of each candle looks.
Black Forest – This is another earthy smelling candle. The orange stands out the most to me, but it’s more of a fruity scent than an orange scent (if that makes any scents). Sometimes fruit scented candles smell very artificial. This one does not. And it’s not a sweet fruity scent either. I think the balsam balances it out nicely. I could smell this one all day!
Hesperides – This has to be one of the prettiest candle out of all of them. Just look at the abundance of flower petals and light green gem stones.
This scent combination is violet and apple. I didn’t really think violets had much of a scent. I remember smelling them as a child, but I honestly couldn’t remember what they smell like.
I smell the violet (?) more so than the apple. When I think apple scents I think of candles that smell like autumn. This candle does not smell like autumn. It smells pretty. This is definitely a spring/summer scent if you ask me. It’s light and pretty.
Full Moon – This candle is SO FRAGRANT! The moment I opened up the tin I was hit in the face with it’s alluring scent.
The scent for this candle is Juniper Berry and Oak. You can certainly smell the oak. It’s another very woodsy scent.
I thought I had taken a close of photo of the candle. I have since burned it so it doesn’t look the same as it did when I opened it. The top of the candle has dried Juniper Berries and gray crystals surrounded by some kind of an herb.
Dare I say this is a “magical scent” that would be perfect for Halloween season. I love it!
Venus – This candle is scented with Black Plum and White Jasmine. It’s another candle that is made with a fruity scent that does not smell like fruit at all (my husband will testify to that since he hates fruity scented anything).
Sometimes this scent smells light, other times it’s a little more intense. It’s hard to say what it really is because every time I smell it and/or burn it the scent seems to different as far as whether or not it’s a light fragrance or a deeper one. It’s very pretty regardless.
I am loving all of the candles I received from Wicket Obscura to review. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to I would say Full Moon.
Wicked Obscura Apothecary not only sells candles, but also crystals, beauty products, smudge sticks, and more.
Visit them only at WickedObscura.com. Be sure to check out the brand on social media too.
