I’m not a lazy person. I mean I CAN be lazy, but I’m not always lazy. It just depends on the situation. For example, when it comes to cleaning I’m lazy, simply because I truly hate to clean.
I try and cook meals I serve my family from scratch whenever possible. Sometimes lack of time or lack of cooking skills prevents me from making dishes I really want to make. For example, carrots and turnips. My mom used to make the most amazing carrots and turnips. I REALLY want to enjoy that side dish again but for the life of me I honestly don’t know how to make it. I’ve never cooked a turnip before.
When it comes to other things I enjoy, like homemade mashed potatoes, it’s more so lack of time then it is skill or laziness. Making mashed potatoes from scratch is very time consuming. Rather then go without mashed potatoes I usually use potato flakes. Trust me, it’s NOTHING like the real thing but it’s better than nothing.
I have purchased mashed potatoes that come in chunk form. You just have to add milk and mash them up. That is too much work, especially if you are trying to get dinner on the table in a hurry.
I have also tried frozen pre-made mashed potatoes that were a lot easier to make (simply heat in the microwave) but I find you end up compromising the taste for convenience.
I recently had the opportunity (Thanksgiving to be exact) to try out Bob Evan’s Mashed Potatoes. I was going to review them on another night but our kitten prompted us to use them on Thanksgiving. While we were working on dinner in the kitchen our kitten Bella jumped up on the table and started licking the mashed potatoes that we had for dinner. We had a pre-made Thanksgiving dinner that came with mashed potatoes.
Needless to say no one wanted to eat mashed potatoes that were pre-licked by our kitten so we tossed them out. However it’s not Thanksgiving dinner without mashed potatoes. Thankfully I had the Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes on the fridge.
The mashed potatoes are pre-made. Simply warm up in the microwave oven and enjoy.
I have to say I was rather impressed. The Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes not only tasted fresh but they also tasted a lot like the ones my mom used to make. They were even seasons perfectly. The container was enough to feed my family of four too.
These mashed potatoes were thick and creamy. You could tell they were not made with dried potato flakes. These mashed potatoes tasted like someone cooked them from scratch.
I honestly didn’t know that Bob Evans sold a variety of foods in the local grocery store. I cannot seem to track them down locally, but I think we live in a Twilight Zone or something because we never have anything good local to us.
Bob Evans sells mashed potatoes, sausages, breakfast sandwiches, wraps and other delicious goodies at grocery store across the country.
I have only eaten at a Bob Evan’s restaurant once, and that was many years ago. We don’t have one here in New York where I live. Having som any Bob Evan’s products sold across the country means you can take the fresh, homemade goodness home with you and enjoy it no matter where you live.
I’m giving Bob Evan’s Mashed Potatoes two thumbs up. It’s quick and easy to make and tastes fresh and close to homemade. Not to menion it’s SO GOOD! Plus they come in other flavors. 🙂

I’ve tried them too but didn’t like them much. I guess I’d rather have home made or none at all. But then, I’m not much for convenience foods any way and usually only buy stuff like that for my hubby.
I had no idea they made such a thing. My husband used to buy the boxed flakes and he relishes in his cooking skills when he does make something like this. I am thinking I might try these but dont want to get too used to convenience foods. With being not in the best health, it’s easy to grab for something fast, but something like mashed potatoes I dont think I will compromise on. I am trying to get my husband to stop buying this, but it IS nice when kids schedule is crazy and you need a quick side dish. I have NO idea how to cook turnips. Grew up on a farm but really only had the basic veggies…corn, carrots, beans, peas…didnt even get to taste broccoli til I was in high school. My mom thought it might be too exotic? LOL> Turnips must have been something she didnt like much?
