I’m not one to wear a lot of makeup. I used to when I was younger. I would not leave the house if my hair wasn’t perfectly coiffed and my makeup “just right.” You wouldn’t catch me out and about without any makeup on. No way!
Fast forward to “the mom years.” Once I became a mom things like my hair and makeup were not as important anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I still do my hair and I wear makeup, but I’m not as crazy about them as I used to be.
The summer months I especially don’t like to wear much makeup. When I do wear it I am quick to wash it all off the moment I get home. I simply do not like the way makeup feels on your face when you are hot and sweaty. I don’t want it clogging up my pores with.
I’m OK with not wearing makeup – even going out in public totally fresh faced. I like the way a clean face feels. When I step out of the shower and my face is nice and clean the last thing I want to do is slap some makeup on.
I do feel that at times I need to wear makeup, especially if it looks really red. You see, I have a condition call Rosacea. It’s not contagious or anything like that.
Rosacea is a vascular condition caused by inflammation, with symptoms that include facial redness, pimples, eye irritation and can even lead to thickened skin and permanent visible blood vessels. If left untreated, rosacea can actually worsen over time.
My Dermatologist diagnosed it years ago. Thankfully mine is not that bad. It’s mostly the top of my cheeks in an area about the size of a quarter. It’s not very prominent, but at times it does seem like it is. I’ve actually had people mistaken it for sunburn.
I’m not alone. It is estimated that over 16 million Americans suffer from rosacea, and many don’t even realize they have it. Some have it really bad – so bad that it effects more than just their appearance.
Because of the physical manifestation of rosacea on the face, the condition can cause embarrassment, anxiety and frustration, and can have a negative impact on the patients’ social life.
According to the results of a new national survey*, the impacts of rosacea go more than skin deep, with half of sufferers saying they feel unattractive, as well as embarrassed (42%) and less confident (30%).
I can relate to the results of this survey. There are plenty of times that I too feel embarrassed and self-conscious about how I look because of it. If it’s especially bad I will wear product on my face to cover it up as best I can.
There are certain products you can use to help clean and moisten your face gently, which is important for rosacea suffers. The last thing you want are harsh products on your face. It can only make matters worse.
Cetaphil makes a lot of very gentle products for your face that are ideal for rosacea suffers (men, women and children). Their products are also great for acne prone skin as well as Eczema suffers (I also have Eczema – I get it on my scalp, neck and face often).
If you suffer from roseacea, or think you do, please consult with a Dermatologist to discuss the best course of action you should take to lessen the severity of your rosacea and to prevent it from getting worse.
For more information please visit www.RosaceaFacts.com.
This year Cetaphil is inviting consumers with rosacea- or those who think they might have the condition- to share a #nomakeup selfie of themselves and tell others how they stay confident even on “tough skin days.”
